Dear Brownsburg,

On behalf of the Brownsburg Parks and Recreation staff and Park Board, we wish you a happy and prosperous new year. We would like to take this opportunity to update you on the Brownsburg Parks and Recreation Board and Department’s progress in 2010.

This year we have completed two sets of plans for the future of your park system, one regarding trails and the second a Strategic Business Plan for managing the Department forward. In March we finished the Brownsburg Trail Study and used the data collected to apply for two trails grants. So far we have been notified that we have received a $250,000 Safe Routes to Schools grant and are still awaiting a reply on a $150,000 Recreation Trails Program grant. For more information on trail progress and specifics on the Brownsburg Trail Study, visit the brownsburgparks.com homepage. In April we sent out a community-wide survey to incorporate into the Strategic Business Plan. In November we presented the final draft of the Strategic Business Plan to the Park Board for approval and will begin implementing the five to ten year plan.

In addition to these plans, the Department has completed several improvements. Shel-ters #5 and # 7 have been upgraded in Arbuckle Acres. We have protected the Arbuckle Acres elevated bridge with an anti-graffiti coating, ordered new fencing for around the play-ground, and upgraded the electrical in the center of the park for large community events. In Williams Park we have upgraded the sensors for lighting at Veteran’s Memorial Garden, replaced several fixtures, and created a map of Maple Ridge Trail with soon-to-be Eagle Scout Taylor Schepers. We hope that you will look at the map and make time to visit Maple Ridge Trail in Williams Park.

We thank those who have responded to our surveys, served on our Trail Study Committee for taking an active role in shaping the future of your park system, and for choosing the Brownsburg Parks and Recreation Department for your leisure pursuits.

Enthusiastically,

Philip ParninDirector of Parks and Recreation

Located north of Williams Park, this garden is dedicated to all service men and women who have served in the United States military. The beautifully landscaped garden surrounds a pathway of brick pavers which are inscribed with the names of veterans, the branch of the military they served in, and the dates of ser-vice. The bricks encircle a granite monument with the names and dates of the military ac-tions participated in by this country. Bricks for the garden can be purchased through the Parks Department Administrative Office.
