What is Paddle Tennis?

Paddle tennis is a game adapted from tennis and played for over a century. Compared to

tennis, the court is smaller and has no doubles lanes, and the net is lower. Paddle tennis is played with a solid paddle as opposed to a

strung racquet, and a depressurized tennis ball is used along with an underhand serve. The

same court is used for both singles and doubles, with doubles being the dominant form of play. The smaller court size adds a

strong emphasis and advantage to net play and creates a fast and reaction-based game.

Each year the Urban Forestry Committee selects a West Fargo recipient to help celebrate Arbor Day. This year the committee will be planting a tree in honor of former Police Chief Ken Hansen. The Arbor Day program will be at 1:00pm on May 13th at the West Fargo Police station. A West Fargo class will also be selected to be a part of this special day. The City of West Fargo is a Tree City USA. In order to be a Tree City USA, you need to have a Forestry Council, follow Tree Care ordinances, have an annual budget of at least $2 per capita, and hold an Arbor Day Observance and Proclamation. The Forestry Council also offers tree workshops throughout the year.

The West Fargo Park District will become a member of the Liberty Tree Society sponsored by the Elm Research Institute. This organization is dedicated to the celebration of the "Liberty Tree," a story of America's first Declaration of Independance. In the the future the Park District will plant an American Liberty Elm in North Elmwood Park. For more information log onto www.elmresearch.org.

There is a heightened concern due to E-coli outbreaks in swimming pools from fecal matter associated with diaper-aged children. For this reason, Fargo Cass Public Health Department and the West Fargo Park District have adopted a policy requiring all diaper-aged children to wear waterproof/water tight diapers while swimming in the Veterans Memorial Pool.

Because the West Fargo Park District cares about patrons, the following policy was adopted. We ask all parents and guardians to be on time when picking up their child from a West Fargo Park District activity or facility. Any child not picked up 20 minutes after an activity ends is considered an “unattended child." Program leaders will remain on site until all patrons have left the premises. However, after 20 minutes, the West Fargo Police Department will be contacted to pick up the child and escort them to the proper authorities. Children under the age of 7 must be accompanied by an adult or a student age 14 or older.

We are committed to supporting the Americans with Disabilities Act. If you require special accommodations for participation in any activities or facilities, please contact the West Fargo Park District at 433-5360.
