FSR = ACTIVE, INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION FOR MAXIMUM CONTROL, COMFORT, AND EFFICIENCY

INDEPENDENT BRAKING

Because the brake “floats” on the seatstay, FSR suspension remains active under braking, providing maximum control when you need it most.

INDEPENDENT, ACTIVE SUSPENSION MOTION

Patented FSR four-bar suspension isolates chain loads from suspension, leaving it free to compress and rebound to the terrain, thereby boosting your traction and control on the trail.

Only because FSR is independent of chain and brake loads can it be active. Active suspension is free to absorb bump forces so your body doesn’t have to. By mitigating these repetitive impacts, you can ride longer, more comfortably.

We pioneered active, independent suspension over 15 years ago and have been refining it ever since. Our FSR technology delivers more control, comfort, and efficiency than any other system by effectively decoupling chain and brake loads from rear suspension.

The Horst link, part of our patented FSR linkage, creates a floating seatstay by separating drivetrain and braking forces. Our engineers control the location of the link, tuning each bike depending on the demands of the ride experience.

INDEPENDENT PEDALLING

Suspension motion is independent of pedal stroke, so all the effort you put into the pedals will move you forward, not up and down. This makes you the most efficient motor possible.

FRAME AND FORK INTEGRATION

Controlling the bike’s frame and fork interface allows us to pioneer features like tapered steerer tubes and bearing/down tube alignment that work together to minimise weight and maximise stiffness.

BRAIN TECHNOLOGY

Pioneered by Specialized, Brain technology is found in our branded forks and rear shocks, as well as our collaborative shocks with RockShox and FOX. Since the Brain knows the difference between rider forces and bump forces, it immediately transitions from firmly efficient in smooth terrain to fully active in rough terrain, boosting both efficiency and control.

FORK AND WHEEL INTEGRATION

By utilising a greater surface area combined with a QR skewer, our OS 28 end caps increase stiffness at the front of the bike for greater control and confidence, without adding weight like a thru-axle.

TSI is an integrated approach to design that gives us complete control over every part of the bike, allowing us to optimise strength, stiffness, weight, spring rates and damping curves based on the demands of the ride experience. By fine-tuning each part to work in harmony with the other, TSI gives you better overall bike performance.

EPIC

COMPETITIVE XC GEOMETRY

What does it do for you?

The Epic’s geometry puts you in an aggressive (or more forward) riding position for more power and precision handling.

How does it work?

By using a short rear end, low bottom bracket, and roomy top tube, you get a more nimble, manoeuvrable ride with room to stretch out and stay centered over the bike. If you’re not a racer, the head tube angle is still slack enough to enjoy plenty of winding singletrack.

MINI BRAIN REAR SHOCK


By “sensing” the difference between rider-induced and bump-induced forces, the Specialized Mini Brain (co-developed by FOX) boosts efficiency and control over smooth and rough terrain.

How does it work?

When you encounter bump forces, the Brain’s inertia valve disengages, allowing oil to flow and the shock to immediately transition from firm (efficient) to fully active (compliant) suspension settings. The external Brain Fade dial allows you to fine tune suspension levels.

XC DOUBLE CRANKS


Double cranks are lighter and better shifting than the standard triple. They give you more useable/less redundant gears, better ground clearance, and less chain drop.

How does it work?

Triple cranks inherently create redundant gears. By eliminating one of the chainrings (essentially, removing under-utilised gears), double cranks reduce weight and redundancy, yet still give riders plenty of gear options. The smaller “big” ring increases clearance.

Our most advanced carbon and alloy construction methods (material varies depending on model) make our Stumpjumpers the lightest, stiffest, and strongest bikes in their class.

How does it work?

• FACT IS: Divides front triangle into two monocoques — with carbon fibres running continuously from tube to tube — for more precise optimisation of tube shapes, sizes, and joints.

• Hydroforming: High pressure fluid is forced through each tube to eliminate welds (saving weight) and achieve more precise tube shaping.

How does it work?

Strategic pivot points at the rear of the bike separate suspension from drivetrain and braking forces to create a fully active, fully independent system that eliminates bob and squat (two things that rob the rider of energy and control).

WHEEL INTEGRATION


By increasing front-end stiffness, our oversized fork/hub interface gives you more control and confidence while riding technical terrain or pedalling out of the saddle.

How does it work?

We use Specialized OS 28 end caps to increase the surface area between the hub and fork dropouts. This set-up dramatically increases stiffness, while still utilising a superlight QR axle (instead of heavier thru-axles).

How does it work?

The new, sleeker frame design with 150 x 12mm thru-axle hub spacing prevents mud and debris from slowing you down or hanging you up.

How does it work?

Responding to input from Sam Hill, Brendan Fairclough, and the Monster Energy mechanics, we softened sharp edges and corners that collected debris and made the frame sleeker to limit any narrow spaces that might collect mud. The 150 x 12mm rear end is strong, stiff, and compatible with most aftermarket DH hubs.

FSR SUSPENSION WITH SUB-SEATSTAY


Our independent and active FSR suspension gives you more traction, control, and confidence for steep descents and tight corners, while the sub-seatstay lightens the frame and lowers your centre of gravity for more stability.

Since the M4 alloy tubes are formed and butted, you get the lightest and strongest frame possible. This translates into faster acceleration and climbing, stable descending, and increased comfort and durability.

How does it work?

Fully formed tubes are individually shaped for their unique purpose, allowing our engineers to optimise tube sets for specific performance characteristics such as torsional stiffness or compliance. The butting process shaves excess material — and weight — in low-stress areas of each tube.

DAMPED FORK


Having a hydraulically-damped fork gives the Rockhopper real cross-country capability, dramatically improving bump absorption, steering precision, and tunability.

How does it work?

Magnesium and alloy parts minimise weight, and oil-regulated compression/rebound damping provides a smoother, more controlled ride over rough terrain.

HYDRAULIC DISC BRAKES


You can ride harder with more control and confidence thanks to consistent stopping power and brake modulation in all weather and trail conditions.

How does it work?

A slight pull on the lever pumps hydraulic oil to the calliper, which pushes the pistons into contact with the disc rotor. Hydraulic systems produce more power than mechanical brakes, which means increased power at the calliper and a more positive touch on the levers.

Every Specialized women’s MTB frame is developed from anthropometric research and riding experience to appropriately fi t the female form. With smaller sizes, experience-specifi c geometries, and the lowest possible standover heights, our women’s frames give female riders more control on the trail.

We create custom tubes for all of our women’s MTB frames so they are lighter and smoother riding than over-built bikes for men. This makes our bikes climb and accelerate faster, while also making them more compliant.

How does it work?

FACT IS CARBON FRAME


Speed-hungry riders get a crazy light and fast bike—with industry leading stiffness-to-weight—that also excels at precision handling for added control and confidence.

How does it work?

Our most advanced carbon construction method divides the frame into four monocoque sections—with carbon fibres running continuously from tube to tube within each section—for more precise optimisation of tubes shapes, sizes, and joints.

TAPERED HEAD/STEERER TUBE


This increases strength and stiffness for better steering precision on speedy descents or tight corners.

How does it work?

The head tube tapers from 1-1/8" at the top to 1-1/2" at the crown and integrates with a recessed lower bearing to create a stronger, stiffer interface. Since carbon is strongest when it maintains a smooth line, this gradual transition of fibres from top to bottom eliminates the potential for weak spots.

SL3 FRAME CONSTRUCTION


Our top-of-the-line frame construction optimises weight and stiffness in every part of the frame for greater acceleration, efficiency, and handling.

How does it work?

Our proprietary one-piece chainstay/BB minimises flex at the critical power transfer junction where crank arms meet frame. The BB, as well as the head tube, use internally raised ribs to optimise fibre alignment for greater stiffness, while hollow dropouts and headset cups cut weight to a minimum.

How does it work?

ROUBAIXTECH HIGHLIGHTS

SL3 CONSTRUCTION


If you want the comfort, but don’t want to sacrifice speed or power transfer, this construction optimises weight and stiffness in every part of the frame for greater acceleration, efficiency, and handling.

How does it work?

Our proprietary one-piece chainstay/BB minimises flex at the critical power transfer junction where crank arms meet frame. The BB, as well as the head tube, use internally raised ribs to optimise fibre alignment for greater stiffness, while hollow dropouts and headset cups cut weight to a minimum.

CARBON SEATSTAYS WITH IN-ZERTZ


Our specially moulded stays increase rear-end compliance for a smoother ride, while newly designed In-Zertz dampers reduce fatigue over the long haul.

How does it work?

Our new seatstay design allows us to use less carbon fibre in the layup, while increasing vertical compliance. The In-Zertz dampers are affixed to a carbon cavity in the stays to further reduce road vibrations.

INTERNAL CABLE ROUTING


Keeps grit and grime out of cable housings for better shifting and braking performance in all conditions.

How does it work?

All brake and shifter cables are routed from the handlebars through the frame tubes, exiting at the BB and back end of the top tube and chainstay. Back cable guides are removable for easier maintenance.

COBRA HEAD TUBE


Improves torsional stiffness at the front of the bike for quicker, more predictable handling, while maintaining enough vertical compliance to keep your ride smooth.

How does it work?

By manipulating the geometry of this junction, we make gains in stiffness without having to use an overly brittle fibre that would sacrifice compliance. Widening the top tube and down tube eliminates flat spots behind the head tube for greater frame stiffness.

WOMEN’S FACT IS CARBON FRAME


This frame design will help you ride longer and faster with greater comfort and control because we’ve managed to increase vertical compliance, while also improving pedalling efficiency and handling.

How does it work?

The new frame layup uses an oversized down tube (with a flare at the head tube), BB, and chainstays to increase torsional stiffness by 15% and BB stiffness by 13%; triangulated seatstays increase vertical compliance by 9% to keep the ride plush, and our endurance-focused geometry features a longer wheelbase for more stability.

ZERTZ INSERTS


Our proprietary Zertz damping inserts absorb road vibrations to minimise fatigue and give you a more comfortable ride, even over the roughest surfaces.

How does it work?

Vibrations travel from the road up through the frame and fork. Putting dampers at the mid-section of each seatstay and fork leg helps dissipate these vibrations before they reach your hands and body.

WOMEN’S-SPECIFIC COMPONENTS


Women’s size-specific components including saddles, handlebars, and cranksets optimise the fit and performance of the whole bike for the female anatomy.

How does it work?

We spec each bike individually based on frame size, geometry, and women’s fit research. Pressure mapping studies help us optimise the foam densities and cut-aways in our saddles to relieve soft tissue discomfort.
