This Week for the Redhawks:The Seattle University women’s soccer team wraps up the home half of the 2011 schedule this weekend, hosting their final match of the year versus Mon-tana. The Redhawks (10-6) host the Grizzlies (6-10-2 overall, 3-3-1 Big Sky) on Friday, Oct. 28, in a 3 p.m. match at Cham-pionship Field. Prior to kickoff, Seattle U will recognize the ca-reers of the graduating senior class. Two days later, SU will travel to Cheney, Wash. to take on the Eastern Washington Ea-gles (2-12-1 overall, 1-5-1 Big Sky). Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.

Last Time Out: After 73 scoreless minutes, Tex-as managed to capitalize on a set piece play to edge the Redhawks 1-0 in Austin, Texas on Oct. 23.

head coach julie woodward15th season/seattle university ‘93 The dean of coaches at Seattle University, Julie Woodward has earned the respect of her peers with her style of coaching. During her 14 coaching seasons, she boasts 13 winning seasons, establishing her as the winningest coach in SU women’s soccer history with a 193-74-25 overall record and a .704 win-ning percentage. Seattle University’s former two-time NAIA All-American soccer player came home to her

alma mater as the head coach of the Redhawks women’s soc-cer program over a decade ago. She has coached the Redhawks to three NCAA Division II Tournament appearances (2004, 2006 and 2007). A 2004 Far West Coach of the Year, she boasts three NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division II honorees, 18 Far West Region selections, three GNAC Player’s of the Year, eight GNAC all-con-ference team honorees and 27 players who have earned NAIA All-America accolades. Her team’s have also boasted great academic success in her tenure, including a 2007 NCAA Woman of the Year, five CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans and 20 CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine All-District selections.

Thanks for the Memories!:Prior to Friday’s match, the Redhawks will honor the ca-reers of the graduating senior class. SU will recognize: Tay-lor Fannin, Madison Goverde, Lauren Munechika, Kassandra Riozzi, Jordan Salisbury and Brynn Watanabe.

It’s a Winning Season:The Redhawks earned their 10th win of the season at CSUB on Oct. 14, marking their 14th winning season over head coach Julie Woodward’s 15-season tenure.

The Numbers: This season the Redhawks have played the majority of their matches outside Seattle. On the year, SU is 8-4 away from home and 2-2 at Cham-pionship Field.

Second Half Surge:This season Seattle U is out-scoring opponents 12-8 in the second half. In the past three games they scored six second half goals after scoreless first halves.

at Montana following her grad-uation from SU in 1993.

The Newbies: Freshmen Megan Daniels, Taylor Ritzman and Stepha-nie Verdoia have made ma-jor impacts in the lineup this year. The trio has gotten in on the scoring game, providing a game-winning goal apiece.

Verdoia is the only newcomer to start in all 16 games this season and is the team’s of-fensive leader. The outside midfielder has tallied four goals and a pair of assists for 10 points.

The Connection: Senior Jordan Salisbury and sophomore Mary Hill have proved to have an undeniable connection this season. The duo has connected on four SU goals this season, with Hill feeding all four assists to Salisbury, including a recent game-winner versus Hawaii on Oct. 9.

The Woodward Tally: Head coach Julie Woodward reached the 200-win mile-stone on Sept. 18, in SU’s 3-1 victory over San Diego State. She is the No. 5 winningest coach in SU history in a single sport and the winningest wom-en’s soccer coach in program history.

The Captains: Senior goalkeeper Madison Goverde and senior defender Renee Vandermause will cap-tain the 2011 Redhawk squad.

Final Year of Independence:2011 will mark SU’s final sea-son playing as an NCAA DI In-dependent. On July 1, 2012 Seattle U will officially join the Western Athletic Conference as full members.

UNLV NIKE Invite Champs: The only team to go 2-0 at the UNLV NIKE Invitational, the Redhawks earned their first tournament title of the season. They defeated host-UNLV and San Diego State.

One For the Books!: SU’s 2-0 shutout victory over then-No. 8 Portland was the biggest win in Redhawk wom-en’s soccer program history. It also marked the highest ranked opponent an SU team has defeated since reclassify-ing back to Division I.

Scouting Montana: Montana heads west riding a 6-10-2 overall, 3-3-1 Big Sky record. They are coming off split weekend, defeating Northern Arizona, 1-0, on Oct. 21, before falling at Northern Colorado, 2-0, on Oct. 23.

2011 Redhawk Women’s Soccergoalkeeping duties. Hoon has played in 14 games, tallying a 1.29 goals against average, 54 saves and a pair of shut-outs. She has been the Griz-zlies primary keeper, holding a 5-8-1 record. McMillen is 1-2-1 and has a 2.96 goals against average.

The UM offensive efforts are headlined by Erin Craig, who has 10 goals and a pair of assists for 22 points. India Watne is the squad’s assist leader, with eight.

The Last Time Seattle U Faced Montana:

This will be the first meeting between SU and UM since the Redhawks have reclassified back to DI status.

Scouting Eastern Washington: The Eagles of Eastern Wash-ington (2-12-1 overall, 1-5-1 Big Sky) are 1-1-1 entering this weekend’s action. They most recently are coming off a 3-0 shutout loss at Northern Arizona on Oct. 23, after earn-ing a win at Weber State, 3-0, on Oct. 15, and taking North-ern Colorado to a 1-1 draw on Oct. 21.

Cassie Black is the team’s scoring leader with six goals in 15 games played. Whitney Brannan follows with four as-sists and three goals for 10 points.

In goal, Jamie Walker has played in 14 games and has a 2-9-1 record. In 1019 min-utes, she’s tallied a 1.24 goals against average, 72 saves and a shutout. Nathalie Schwery has played in eight games be-tween the posts and is 0-3 on the year. She has a 1.24 goals against average and 13 saves in 352 minutes of action.

The Last Time Seattle U Faced Eastern Washington:

The Redhawks edged past the Eagles 2-1 in their last meet-ing in Cheney, Wash. on Sept. 3, 2010. After an own-goal by the Eagles in the 10th minute, EWU evened things up in the second half to send the match into extra periods. Ava Ames received a pass from Kassan-dra Riozzi in the 109th minute to send SU home with a 2-1 OT victory.
