  • Alumnae Lives & Legacies: The weekendincludes opportunities to hear from sisteralumnae. Madeira women from eachdecade will share stories of what Madeirawas like during their time here and thetwists and turns, adventures and discov-eries since they graduated.

    Class Visits & Campus Tours: Althoughthere have been many changes toMadeiras campus, the beauty in and outof the classrooms remains the same.Alumnae are invited to join classes withcurrent Madeira students and see campuswith a student tour guide.

    Faculty Presentation: Step back into theclassroom and experience what learningis like today at Madeira with two ofMadeiras faculty.

    Friday Cocktails and Dinner: Join us for the annual cocktail party followed by dinner on campus. Feel free to dress up!

    Meet Pilar Cabeza de Vaca! There will be a number of opportunities throughoutthe weekend to meet our new Head ofSchool, Pilar Cabeza de Vaca.

    Griffith Cottages Ribbon Cutting: Join us Saturday afternoon for the ofcialribbon cutting ceremony to unveil theGrifth Cottages and to thank all of thosewho contributed to the Cottages forCommunity Campaign!

    The Royal Wedding: On Friday morningjoin us in the Hospitality Suite for a tasteof Britain. We will be serving tea andscones in honor of the Royal couple.

  • Reunion Speakers

    Milbry C. Polk 71

    Milbry C. Polk 71 is the Co-Founderand Director emeritus of WingsWorldQuest, a nonprot organizationthat supports the work of womenexplorers. Her own explorations havebeen in the Middle East and Asia(North Africa, Arabia, Yemen, Iran,Pakistan, India, Nepal, Laos, andBurma) and recently in the Arctic andTibet. A Fellow of the Explorers Club,a Fellow of the Royal GeographicSociety, and an Honorary Fellow of theRoyal Canadian Geographical Society,Milbry is creating educational programs to engage young people in scienceand exploration. She is the author of numerous books, a widely exhibited photographer, and a lecturer. Her prole on CBS Sunday Morning, They Also Dared, won a Gracie Award. Her other awards include Leader of the 21st Century from Womens eNews, the Womens Environmental Leadership Award from Unity College and in March 2011, Milbry will be awarded theAnne Morrow Lindbergh Award from the Lindbergh Foundation. In additionto these awards, she serves on a variety of museum, theater, news and artsorganization boards. Milbrys next venture involves a major conference onAffordable World Security. After graduating from Madeira, Milbry received a bachelors degree in Anthropology from Harvard University.

    Milbry will be the Reunion Keynote Speaker on Friday, April 29 at 10:55 a.m. in the Chapel/Auditorium.

  • CeCe Turner Haydock 71

    CeCe Turner Haydock 71 speaks frequently on historic gardens at colleges, arboreta, and garden clubs.A graduate of Princeton University,CeCe also has a masters degree inlandscape architecture from SUNYSchool of Environmental Science and Forestry. She has practiced residential landscape architecture for the past 25 years and specializesin sustainable building as a LEED (Leadership in Energy andEnvironmental Design) accreditedprofessional. She is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and theAmerican Society of Landscape Architects. Last fall she visited 25 gardensin France and is working on a lecture on Parisian gardens. In 2007 while aVisiting Scholar at the American Academy of Rome, CeCe researched andphotographed the Roman villas visited by Edith Wharton. Whartons proliccareer as a ction writer is well-known but her unusual ability both to observeand to write puts her at the forefront of Italian garden critics as well; her book Italian Villas and their Gardens remains today a scholarly resource onthe subject. CeCe will analyze eight Roman villas described by Wharton inher inuential book and discuss the inuence of the villas on Wharton's ownhouses and her novels.
