A new MAG group started on 10/08/2011 in Lee Mill at the Westward Inn, 8pm start.

I believe that there are a number of campaigns that the local members would like to at least be aware of, for example.

* Mandatory high-viz - making it illegal to NOT wear, taking away the option.

Anti "tampering" laws - unable to change air filters from manufacturers spec for example

Banning bikes over 8 years old from city centres??

* Get-a-grip - relating to the condition of roads, potholes and the like.

Just to mention a few Would you please let the club members know about this group ? Thanks Neil Stone

There is a protest ride being organised by Plymouth MAG group on 25th September.

It will be leaving from Lee Mill services at 1.00pm and is in protest of the new

legislation for motorcycles that the EU is trying to bring in.

We thought members and all bikers would be interested as it will affect all of

us if these regulations go through and if all bkers throughtout the country join

together for this event it will show the government that there are a hell of a

lot of us not happy with what is happening.

Christine and Keith Ball.

Plymouth MAG- ***NEW GROUP meet at The Westward Inn, Lee Mill, Devon. PL21 9EE. Ongoing meetings will be held on the 2nd

Wednesday of the month. Contact Pete by email: [email protected] or call 07502 310360.

15th Anniversary Party Night

Hopes were high for a good turn out on Saturday 23rd July, when the Summer party / Disco / Barn dance / Barbecue

took place at the Citybus Club. This was part of our club’s 15th anniversary celebrations. The weather needed to be

kind to us, as the food was in the form of a barbecue on the outside area by the bowling green.

We weren’t disappointed - the sun shone, and business was brisk - in fact , with ninety two - yes that’s 92 attending,

the team of chefs and caterers (see pictures on page 5) were kept busy cooking for 3 hours and had to send out for

more supplies of burgers and buns! All hail now to the team of Committee and non-Committee members who gave up

their drinking time to source, set up and manage the evening for us.

Members were still partaking of the barbeque when the Barn Dance caller began his part of the evening.

This part of the evening was devised to be something different from the usual disco which is normally just background

music until everyone’s feeling brave. It was only on for an hour, and as usual there was a slow take up to start off with

- but then it gained momentum , eventually filling the dance floor with bodies - nearly ended up with a floor full of

bodies when the dances got more complicated! Our caller started with some simple routines - talking us through the

patterns , which were gradually getting more frantic - dosey doh - left - dosey doh right - change partners - star, spin -

That’s when it turned into a scene from a zombie movie - everyone staggering round bumping into each other laugh-

ing at their own and others inability to get it right. Hilarious and great fun to take part in and , probably, watch.

That part over, there was a raffle, followed by the disco for the remainder of the evening. Those who didn’t feel the

need to strut their stuff on the dance floor were able to sit outside in a quieter atmosphere. An added bonus was the

presence of three of our founder members - Ron and Michelle Densley, and Pete Batten.- thanks for attending folks.

Hopefully everyone enjoyed the evening - if there is anything you would change for future occasions - please let your

committee know - it is your club and your constructive comments are welcome.

Once again - congratulations to all who made it possible.

Denis

........... And the view from someone else for a change....

On the 23/7/11 I attended my first Plymouth Motorcycle Club Birthday Bash not knowing at all what to expect except that drink and food

would be involved.

For a female the first problem is what to wear? This led to much quizzing of Pete Tibbins about the suitability of almost my entire wardrobe, by

the end he looked as if he had lost the will to live and I settled for a safe jeans and smart top look. The top was cream, this didn’t seem an im-

portant consideration at the time, after all I would only be sitting, drinking and eating with maybe an ill advised bop at some stage through the

night.

Upon arriving there were already a few guests even though we were ridiculously early as per usual. The barbeque was in place though not lit

and there was a flurry of activity revolving around Ritch and Sue.

I said a few hellos to the faces I knew and then drifted over to where all the activity seemed at its most intense. This is where I made the first

error, considering the cream jumper, as I asked Sue “do you need some help”? From this point on the part changed, no longer was I a leisurely

guest chatting and sipping wine, I became an intricate part of the feed the 5000 machine (Ok so it was approx 93 but it felt like thousands!)

I was stationed in the food production line where I discovered just how much the PMC members love their food as well as their beer and bikes

and just what a bad choice a cream top was!

Wave after wave of people queued up to be fed burgers hot dogs and chilli which I presume was good as there was nothing left at the end.

Now hot and sweaty I could sit down to chill chat and watch some of the most entertaining dancing I have ever witnessed (Until the Jeremiahs

Journey camp out that is) thanks to Denis and a few others.

Observing this mixed group of people brought together by a common love of their bikes, it was apparent that they had a few other things that

bind them together. Their love of fun and wish to live life to the full is refreshing to watch. The average age of a club member may not be con-

sidered youthful yet these people do not let that hold them back one bit, they embrace life, new experiences and fun, defiantly running rings

around many of the youngsters there that night.

On a last note I would like to thank all the club members who have made me feel so welcome. Becoming part of this group has definitely en-

riched my life, I have made new friends that I cherish and discovered a new lease of life that has brought untold fun into my daily life. I would

thoroughly recommend anyone to join them. Be prepared to roll up your sleeves and help and the rewards are great.

Charity events.

As you know - each year we try to support local charities with rides etc. These events are put forward

at the AGM in January. If you think you would like to suggest a charity to support - you may like to

start thinking about it now. You will need to have been a member for at least a year and be fully active

in the arranging of dates, how it will be run, where it will go etc. And present a prepared outline to the

club members at AGM. You can get a copy of the Charity Support guidelines from me - by email or

post.

The LONGEST DAY RUN report.

Well - t’was about 1-45 am on Sunday the 19th of June {you're right - not the longest day - we do the

nearest Sunday as many still work}. That out the way, the alarm went off and up like a lark - raced

down to the legacy hotel on my bike to embrace this good day to celebrate - a day from our history in

times gone by.

We awaited in anticipation for the hordes to turn up for one of our club rides, and waited and waited

and ha ha - along came Ronald - our popular 125cc rider. - think he just finished work actually, and

then along came Mac followed by a few more and, undaunted by our few numbers , we set off.

Mac said he didn’t mind leading down and for me to bring them back, so on to the Cheesering at

Minions. It was a bit dull and overcast but got steadily worse to the point it participated down. We

hung on as long as we could - but alas - no sunrise, so we agreed to hunt for some food , went back

out to Dobwalls onto the A38 and back to Goodbodies on Mutley Plain for food and all agreed it was

wot it was, the breakfast nailed it, and another one of our club events carried out.

PLYMOUTH FOODBANK - Charity presentation. One of the charities we supported this year was the Plymouth Foodbank. This charity was set up to help people who are in financial crisis by providing them with much needed food, a listening ear and useful advice. Clients receive a maxi-mum of 3 vouchers which entitle them to enough tinned and dried food for a bal-anced diet for three days. The charity event was arranged by member Jerry Paterson, known as the „Door Doctor‟, who also looked after the storage of the food. Members had collected tins and packets recommended by the charity over the weeks and the resulting food mountain was presented to the Foodbank along with a cheque for £80 - the proceeds of a raffle for prizes generously donated by Jerry and George Whites. Although the attendance on the night was a little down on usual numbers, possi-bly because of members holidaying, the evening went well, and those who did attend were rewarded with a buffet arranged by Allison and Steve Ford.
