4 2011 National Motorcoach Directory

Welcome to the 28th edition of the NationalMotorcoach Directory. When we first pro-duced the directory nearly three decades ago,

it was a 100 percent print publication, distributed byU.S. mail and sent to thousands of potential users ofmotorcoach charter and tour transportation.

Much has changed in the travel and tourism indus-tries in those 28 years, and even more has changed intravel marketing.

When we began producing this directory, there wasno internet. The directory was the only source ofmotorcoach charter and tour information for many ofour clients.

While these clients had access totheir local Yellow Pages, findinglocal transportation wasnot the issue. It wasfinding quality carriersin markets in otherparts of NorthAmerica.

I still remember the callfrom the White House ask-ing for the latest directory, and thanking us for produc-ing such a valuable publica-tion. While the WhiteHouse knew all the localWashington area operators, theproblems began when thePresident went on the road. If theWhite House had a problem findingquality motorcoach operators, you canimagine the problems faced by schools, col-leges and universities, by meeting planners, and bytour operators and travel agents. The Internet Changed Everything!

Today there’s thousands of pages of resource infor-mation on motorcoach transportation on the internet, and the opportunity to receive a quote is just a clickaway. But that’s the problem.

How much can one trust the internet with theirmotorcoach transportation choices? Let’s face it, allthese sites look great. Even the ones that don’t own asingle motorcoach!

This is why we continue to publishthe National Motorcoach Directoryafter so many years.

When you give peopletoo many choices, makingthe right choice is oftendifficult. In this directorywe break down the listingof quality motorcoach car-ries by country and state, and provide in-depthinformation on each indi-vidual company.

We provide the basicinformation, type of equip-ment operated, amenitiesoffered, and the key con-tacts, including telephone

and email information.Every motorcoach company in

this directory owns andoperates their own

motorcoach equipment. We continue to make it easy tocharter a motorcoach anywherein North America, and Europeas well.

Today, the NationalMotorcoach Directory is still dis-tributed to thousands of users ofmotorcoach transportation allover the world. But today we

use the internet, as we have longpassed the value of the printed

page and regular mail. The Internet provides the

most valuable distributionnetwork ever created.

It allows publications like this to reach thousands ofpeople who never had access to it in the past, as it isavailable with a simple email link. In fact, in the pastyear this directory has received more than 250,000page views from companies, organizations and individ-uals interested in motorcoach charter transportation.Thank you for your interest in theNational Motorcoach Directory.

We hope you find the information in the directoryvaluable, and we hope you will want to continue toreceive updates in the future. Just send me an email [email protected] and I’ll make sure you continue toreceive future editions of the National MotorcoachDirectory.

Welcome to the 28th Annual National Motorcoach Directory

THE BASICS . . .1. How long has the carrier been inbusiness? The longer it has offeredcharter coach service, the better.

2. Request the company’s DOTnumber, required to operate legally.Use the number to check the carri-er’s safety rating.

3. What is the carrier’s USDOTSafety Rating? The highest possiblerating is Satisfactory. It’s easy to finda carrier’s rating on the Internet:http://www.safersys.org. Search bycompany name, USDOT number,or MC number. Never charter froma company with an unsatisfactoryrating.

4. Ask the carrier to supply aCertificate of Insurance, showing itslevels of insurance and effectivepolicy dates. The accepted levelscall for $5 million combined, single-limit liability coverage.

5. Ask for references. Never char-ter from a company not willing toprovide references.

6. What is the size of the carrier’sfleet? Fleet size provides a gauge tothe operator’s ability to supply alter-nate vehicles if needed and insightinto the carrier’s success.

7. Personally inspect the carrier’s office, garage facilities andmotorcoach equipment. You cantell alot about a company just bylooking.

8. How old is the equipment? Thenewer the motorcoach (not morethan 10 years old), generally thefewer problems.

9. Is the carrier a full service com-pany? Does it have its own mainte-nance facilities? Can they arrangetours or other special services?

YOUR NEEDS . . .10. For an accurate quote on yourtrip, provide the carrier with adetailed itinerary.

11. Does your group have specialneeds, i.e., a video system, beveragegalley, handicapped access or otherequipment?

12. Ask if video coaches are avail-able. You can view educationalvideos, movies or sports videos.

13. Is the carrier legally licensed toshow motionpictures en route?Only carriers licensed by theMotion Picture Association ofAmerica may legally show copy-righted movies. Films rented from avideo store are not licensed for pub-lic viewing.

14. Be a smart shopper! Make surecareful consideration of these con-sumer tips is balanced against cost.A decision based solely on pricemay not be the best value.

15. Ask who pays for the driver’s room. Is it included in thecharter cost? Also specify if the driver must stay in the samehotel as your group.

16. Determine the carrier’s policyfor extra mileage costs above thecontracted amount. Find out thecarrier’s policy concerning “overagemiles” before you select a carrier --not when you get an inflated billafter you return!

SAFETY ISSUES . . .17. Ask if the company adheres toDOT driver regulations which limitthe number of hours a driver canwork. A driver is limited to 10hours of actual driving time. If youritinerary exceeds this limit, how willthe carrier handle your group’sneeds?

18. What procedures are followedfor on-the-road emergencies? Thecarrier should have access to anationwide reciprocal maintenanceagreement, assuring you of promptservicing of equipment in all regionsof the USA.

19. Ask if the company has a for-mal Drug and Alcohol Program.Specify that your carrier supply acopy of their written drug and alco-hol policy statement. Never charterfrom a carrier that does not stronglyenforce a drug and alcohol-freeworkplace.

20. Request a list of current, quali-fied drivers who have a commercialdriver’s license, a DOT driver’s file,a current DOT physical examina-tion, and an approved MedicalExaminer’s Card.
