No Cycles with Power at Your Club or Studio?Don’t be put-off by all the talk of Power.

We’re offering plenty of “conventional” Indoor Cycle trainings and education for you to bring away from your experience at this year’s conference.

Optional - Pre-Conference Certification Options:

8-hour Heart Zones Power Training Certification0.8 ACE CECsPower bikes for Indoor Cycling have hit the market, and now the challenge is determining how we take advantage of these new tools. Gene Nacey has teamed up with Sally Edwards of Heart Zones™ fame to create an 8-hour certification course to prepare Spinning® or Indoor Cycling instructors to be comfortable and confident incorporating power into their classes. The first half of the course provides the educational foundation to build understanding and familiarity with Power training, as well as ways to introduce Power in class without intimidating riders unaccustomed to using tools on the bike. The second half of the course focuses on how to teach with power; how to conduct power tests, designing power improvement training plans, exploring power profiles of outdoor riders, and writing class guidelines with power. All students who pay and pre-register at least 1 week prior to the course will receive their 8 X 10 certification at the conclusion of the workshop.

New Leaf Metabolic Assessments Serious Athletes Train Smarter not Harder. Whether you are a professional athlete or a “weekend warrior”, you know that sound training will help you achieve superior results. Heart rate training is always a key component of that, and the New Leaf test done by an experienced metabolic specialist is the best way to determine your threshold heart rate outside of doing blood lactate tests. This can set your training program, and give you a baseline for comparisons later. A Metabolic / VO2 assessment can determine:

● Peak VO2 at Threshold, and VO2 Max● Aerobic Base (a strong indication of your level of fitness)● Aerobic Threshold T1● Anaerobic Threshold T2 (AT)● Optimal Heart Rate Training Zones● Caloric Burn Rate during Exercise● Caloric Requirements

We are conducting assessments during the conference. Register and we will contact you to schedule your personal appointment.

7:00 - 8:50 AM Pick One Session

No “hills” or “flats?” Watt will I talk about in class?! (WS)With no fancy moves or choreography to hide behind, many instructors feel like fish out of water when first teaching indoor cycling. Hence the creation of moves, terms and various positions to keep it “interesting.” With the introduction of consoles that provide useful information to the end-user and the instructor, we can ditch the filler and get results! Utilize watts, speed, distance, cadence and more to create meaningful rides that match your participant’s goals. In this interactive session, discover how to “trim the fat” and talk about what really counts – measureable progress!

Instructor: Cameron Chinatti

Explosive Training - From Basic to Ballistic (WS)Training with Power on Indoor bikes has arrived. It is useful at every level of rider and class objective, it is only a function of how you put it to use, and how you coach to it that changes. We will explore using power with beginner students as well as those who have progressed to Sprinting and Power Testing.

Instructor: Tom Scotto

How to Introduce a Power Training Periodization Program Part 1 (Lecture)This lecture will discuss the merger of the two strongest tools in IDC, Power Training and Periodization. We will explore two periodization models for implementation in a multi-week program, and discover the incredible benefits of training with power. We will discuss marketing strategies, “teaser” promotional drills, and potential troubleshooting issues. Periodization with Power training guarantees high student success rates, provides tangible results, and has major

potential to bring the instructor and facility additional revenue. Periodization and Power: “Test, Train, Improve.”

Part two follows this as an on-bike workshop

Instructor: Doug Rusho

The Magic of Measuring & Monitoring Training: (Lecture and Q&A)You've heard the expression: "If you can measure it, you can improve it". It is a veritable axiom in life and sports. While the Cycling Room has been the last area of the industry wide health club to get real training tools, the good news is that they are coming. If you bike doesn't have a computer or read out console of some kind right now, then chances are that the next time the club buys new bikes, that will all change. Carl Foster, Ph.D. will explain the benefits of measuring and monitoring your training, as well as providing guidelines for getting your own program started.

Instructor: Dr. Carl Foster

9:10 - 11:00 Pick One Session:

YOUR OPTIMAL INTERVALS (WS)How do you determine the number of interval repeats appropriate for your class? What about for all the different individuals in your class? Is there a point when attempting just one additional interval is not helping you achieve the results you’re after? In this interactive session, we’ll deliver the answers using the Stages™ Power Console as our guide. Never before has mass customization been so easy to achieve – even in a large group exercise setting! Help participants create results which will translate into everyday activities as they become stronger and more balanced for a lifetime. Come ready to ride as we put the data to the test in the first ever interval ride designed with you in mind!

Instructor: Cameron Chinatti

How to Introduce a Training Periodization Program Part 2 (WS) “Now You’re Playing with Power!” This workshop will provide instructors a promotional “teaser” profile to market their periodized power training program. Participants will experience “light bulb” moments as they directly experience how power is affected with different drills. They will complete a power test and then use their score for a workout utilizing a modified “Tabata” protocol. Instructors

will also be administered example power zone cards and understand the nuts and bolts of how a single periodized power class is administered.

Instructor: Doug Rusho

Open your own Indoor Cycling Studio? (Lecture and Q&A)There's a growing trend toward specialty (boutique) fitness studios run by passionate instructors. You see Yoga and Pilates studios everywhere and now profitable Indoor Cycling Studios are following the same growth pattern. Cycling Studio owner and business consultant Bill Pryor has helped over 100 prospective studio owners. He will give you an overview to the steps needed so you can decide if there's a new Indoor Cycling Studio in your future.

Instructor: Bill Pryor

T1 & T2, The One-Two Punch of Cardiovascular (or Heart Zones®) Training: (Lecture)

First there was Max heart rate training. Then there was an enlightened exercise physiology community that promoted Threshold training as the preferred approach to improving performance in aerobic sports. The existence and incorporation of the Two Threshold system of training (Low Threshold or T1 and High Threshold or T2) is the next evolutionary step in both understanding and applying exercise science to our everyday physical fitness routines. Dr. Foster is joined by Gene Nacey, MPH for this session. After Dr. Foster explains the rationale for T1 and the benefits of training relative to this biomarker, Gene Nacey shares multiple case studies where these two thresholds were identified, measured and monitored for before and after effects.

Instructors: Dr. Carl Foster and Gene Nacey

MEET ZONING, Effort Management made easy and consistentAre you tired of explaining rate of perceived exertion?
