MissionFounded in 1991, FAAN (The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network) is the world leader in information, resources, and programs about food allergy, a potentially fatal medical condition that afflicts an estimated 12 million Americans, or one out of every 25, and is rapidly increasing in prevalence. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Fairfax, VA, FAAN is dedicated to increasing public awareness, providing advocacy and education, and advancing research on behalf of all those affected by food allergy and anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction that is rapid in onset and may cause death).

About Food Allergies Food allergy is a growing public health concern in the U.S. Between 1997 and 2007, the prevalence of food allergies among children increased 18%, to reach 3 million U.S.

children. More than 12 million Americans have a food allergy. That’s one in 25, or 4 percent of the population. The incidence of food allergy is highest in young children – one in 17 among those under age 3. Food allergies result in more than 300,000 ambulatory-care visits among children in the U.S. annually. Eight foods account for 90% of all food-allergic reactions in the U.S.: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts (e.g., walnuts,

almonds, cashews, pistachios, pecans), wheat, soy, fish, and shellfish. Even trace amounts of a food allergen can cause a reaction. There is no known cure for food allergy; strict avoidance of the food allergen is the only way to prevent a

reaction.

How FAAN Uses ContributionsFAAN uses contributions to fund its education, advocacy, research, and awareness efforts. In 2009, FAAN spent 19 percent of its funds on general/administrative and fundraising expenses and earned a three star rating from charitynavigator.org. Eighty-one cents of every dollar is spent on direct programs, services and research. Since 2004, FAAN has funded more than $5.5 million in research. Education remains the single most important component of staying safe while living with food allergies. Since 2006, FAAN has funded nearly $175,000 in Community Grants to local support groups throughout the country.

MembershipFAAN has 22,000 members in the U.S., Canada, and 62 other countries. FAAN’s membership includes individuals; families; health care professionals; school, child care, and camp staff; corporations; organizations; institutions; and those in the pharmaceutical and food industries. FAAN’s program participants are most frequently married and generally between the ages of 24-56 year. FAAN members are highly educated, affluent individuals with a median household income in excess of $100,000 per year. Membership is available online at www.foodallergy.org.

2011 FAAN™ Walk for Food AllergySponsor Waiver of Liability and Packaging Requirements

for the Distribution of Food Product

In consideration of the right to be a sponsor of and distribute food product at the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) Walk for Food Allergy at any 2011 Walk site(s), (hereinafter “Walk(s)”), Sponsor acknowledges and agrees that neither the FAAN nor its affiliates, agents, employees, volunteers, successors, or assigns shall be liable for claims, demands, costs, or expenses arising out of any personal injury, property damage, or other loss, including but not limited to the suffering of an allergic reaction, which may be sustained by any person as a result of Sponsor’s participation in the Walk(s) and/or the food products distributed by or on behalf of Sponsor. In this regard, the undersigned hereby agrees to assume all risk of such occurrences and to hold FAAN and its affiliates, agents, employees, volunteers, successors, or assigns harmless and indemnify and defend same against all claims, liabilities, damages, liens, and expenses (including, without limitation, reasonable attorneys fees) arising directly or indirectly from any such occurrences.

In an effort to minimize the risk of accidental exposure to food allergens by Walk(s) attendees, Sponsor agrees to abide by the following provisions:

1. All food product distributed at any FAAN Walk site must be individually packaged and the individual packaging must contain a proper ingredient label. Food product packaging must not allow for any residue from the product to be on the outside of the packaging.

2. All food products must be received by the Walk Chair(s) at each Walk event in which Sponsor is participating at least one week prior to the published date of the Walk event(s).

3. All food product containers will be inspected by the Walk Chair and compliance with items 1 and 2 above will be determined in the sole discretion of the Walk Chair.

4. Failure to comply with items 1 and 2 above will result in the Sponsor not being allowed to distribute the food products at the Walk(s) on event day. Moreover, Sponsor will NOT be eligible for a refund of the sponsorship payment.
