2011 Season PreviewThe Fall 2011 season will be the first for the Cal State San Marcos women’s volleyball program. Formed in 2010, the program will debut in competition this season as a member of the National As-sociation of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) conference.

Coaching the new squad will be Head Coach Andrea Leonard and Assistant Coach Andrew Bennett. Leonard, who spent 7 seasons as the Head Coach at Boston College before serving as an assistant coach at San Diego State in 2010, brings a wealth of NCAA Division I experience and a proven track record as a recruiter and teacher to the Cougars.

“The team will pursue each day with hard work and a commitment to achieve success,” she notes.

As the team makes its debut, they are looking to set the bar high by competing at the highest level and improving each day. Coach Leonard will kick off this inaugural season with the goal of estab-lishing a foundation for the program based on character while identifying the strengths of each player. Teaching will be a major focus as the players commit to the system and learn the strategies.

Leonard will set the bar high this season by setting high standards and consistent expectations. Those expectations will be met, says Leonard, through consistency, determination, belief in the system, and teamwork.

“We are a team, and our focus will be to make each other better,” notes Leonard.

As CSUSM Athletics moves through the process of building an on-campus arena to house our new volleyball and basketball programs, the teams will be playing temporarily at local venues.
