Teepa Snow, MS, OTR/L, FAOTAOverthepast5-10yearssignificantprogresshasbeenmadeindifferentialdiagnosisand

intailoringtreatmentsandinterventionstoeachtypeofdementia.Currentunderstandingis

thatlabelingsomeoneashaving“dementia”intheearlystagesoftheconditionisinadequate

forbestqualitycaremanagement.Thissessionisdesignedtoprovideinformationaboutthe

variousformsofdementia.Ithighlightstheimportanceofnoticingearlysignsofchangesin

cognitionandbehaviorthatareNOTconsistentwithnormalaging.Depression,delirium,and

dementiaarediscussedanddifferencesandconnectionsarepresented.Thesessionprovides

specificanddistinguishingcharacteristicsofsomeofthemorecommonformsofdementia

including:Alzheimer’sdisease,vasculardementia,Lewybodydementia,andfronto-temporal
