LinguistaThe results of the PU were a marvel but let's not

forget the languages that aided in the battle against

the dreaded PU boards. Let's start from around the

world with the international language English.

“English is a funny language that explains why we

park our car on the driveway and drive our car on the

parkway” but English was not that funny for Susan

Kurien of II PCMB A who secured the highest in

English for the academic year with a whooping 97

making the entire English department go bananas

over their success. Onto the most romantic language

in the world - François. Extra credit must be given to

the French department who had its work cut out for

them being the only language that had to be taught

from the scratch still managed to keep their heads

held high thanks to their prodigies Bhamini

Lakshminarayan, Hariprabha and Jasmine Mary who

scored a 98 in the language. When asked for a study

tip Bhamini from II PCMB D had this to say “Don't

bunk classes, work out the pink book and annoy all

your friends by only speaking in French”. Looking at a

closer angle in the world we have the Sanskrit team

who was dumbfounded when Vijayamba scored a

centum in this sacred subject. Coming closer to our

motherland we have the pundit of Hindi Aditi Joshi

with a 98 making the entire Hindi department go

gaga with joy. Last but certainly not the least we have

Kannada team from namma Bengaluru who did not

disappoint thanks to Caroline DA and Ashmini Bhat

who managed to secure 98. Congratulations to all the

toppers and the teachers in this wide array of

languages.

II

Science“Success is the ability to hitch your wagon to a star while

keeping your feet on the ground”

Another year, another round of the dreaded board

examinations and yet another batch of brilliant Christites

who have done us really proud; CJC recorded an

astounding pass percentage of 98% as against the state

average of 48.87%. We certainly have reasons to

celebrate!

Some dream of worthy accomplishments, while others

stay awake to do them. Our science students have

certainly burned a lot of midnight oil, as evinced by their

incredible results.

The Physics department has much to be proud of. Out of

the 792 students who appeared for the exam, 98.36%

have passed, 81.6% with distinction and first class. Four

students clocked in centum and there were 320 students

with distinctions, 5 of whom were remedial ones.

The Biology department is an elated one, with 10 students

scoring above 95. Distinctions were obtained by 216 and

287 got first class.

The Chemistry students have done really well with three

centums, 252 distinctions and 345 first classes.

Six students got a 100 in Math, 239 got distinctions and

310 have first class.

The Electronics department is euphoric with 100% pass

percentage. 96.98% of students who answered got

distinctions and first class, with 5 of them scoring

centums.

Remember, science education is nothing but trained and

organized common sense. It is achieved, not received. So,

aim for the stars, plant your feet firmly into the ground and

you are well on your way to creating a success story

yourself!

Social SciencesAmidst all the fun and frolicking, which comes as a part of

being an arts student, our seniors overwhelmed us with their

staggering results!! Vijayamba R., secured the second position

in the state with a remarkable score of (563/600) 93.8%.And

Revathi Rajgopal obtained the fifth position, with an amazing

93% (558/600).Both of them, having been energetic

participants in all the extracurricular events, made juggling

study and fun seem like a cake walk!

And it's not just the toppers we are talking about, but the

whole stream! The Social Sciences department has the highest

pass percent in the college, with 180 people passing from the

crowd of 183, i.e.(98.36 %). Plus, there are various toppers for

the different subjects offered by the department: Psychology –

an astounding total of 99/100 , bagged by two students,

Monica Murali Kamath and Muiz Ahmed Khan Usmani.

In the field of Sociology our rock stars Vijayamba R. and

Alekha Acharya have both secured 97 making their teachers

proud. Another interesting bit of trivia, is the score of Satya M.,

who was formerly a student ascribed to special classes, has

managed to achieve an amazing total of 90/100 in Sociology.

In the Political Science stream Rohit Balraj and Brinda.S share

the top position with 95 marks each.

In the Department of Economics, 95 being the highest score,

was shared between three people: Shruti Menon, Malvika Rao

and Kunal Mehta. The study of our ancestors and their

marvelous work has often been written off but now we have a

new edition to CJC history by Brinda S who topped History with

95 marks.

The faculty of Social Sciences of course, has quite a lot of the

success, credited to them. Their unending support and

dedication are pretty much obvious in the results shown by the

students. They do an excellent job of honing our skills and

talents, to develop us to the best of our abilities and making

responsible citizens out of us.

So all in all, regardless of the crazy extracurricular schedules,

the Social Sciences department not only manages to make a

huge mark in academics, but also teaches us all, the core value

of living life to the fullest!

CommercethOn the evening of 10 May, while the colleges and

students in Karnataka were either excited or tensed

about the second PUC Board examination results,

Christ Junior College was more calm and composed.

The reason behind this was the strong confidence built

by the students and the faculty together.

The commerce stream excelled with a pass percentage

of 97.86%. Out of the total 280 students who appeared

for the exams 274 passed. Giridhar -topped the college

with a total of 584 out of 600, followed by Malavika who

fell short by a single mark. The next place was held by

couple of students who were another one mark lesser -

Priya and Ankit with 582 as the total.

Accountancy bagged the first place, with cent percent

results. We had total 203 distinctions and some

remarkable centums to add on. Statistics followed next

with just one failure. Commerce quickly followed with

75% of the students getting distinction and just two

failures. In Basic Mathematics, the pass percentage was

98.57%

The credit for the exhilarating results undoubtedly goes

to our teachers. This would have been impossible

without the continuous help and guidance from our

excellent faculty members and the good infrastructural

facilities provided by CJC.

What are all our achievers saying? S. Arun (II PCMB - C)When you first think about people who've achieved high, who've aimed and hit bull's eye, the only thing you can think of is hard work and determination. While those two may play a vital role in getting one to reach his or her dreams, there are many other hurdles that they would have had to overcome to make it to the final rung of the ladder of success.

Well, proving my point exactly, would be what one of our very own academic achievers, S Arun who secured the third rank in medicine in the COMED-K exam and eighth rank in medicine and 118th rank in Engineering in the K-CET examination held during April 2011, stated- "Hard work and determination are not the only the only things that I had to do over the year. I did take time occasionally to give some time for myself and for some recreation that further helped me through all my endeavors." But it's not easy accomplishing such a big feat. He admits that it would not be possible without some help and support. Questioning him on the same, Arun had a lot to say. "Yes, it would certainly not be possible without the help of a lot of people. I would definitely like to thank my parents for all their encouragement. Of course, without the guidance of my teachers at CJC, reaching such great heights would not be possible. They helped me realize

competitive exams are not as hard as they seem. If

we have a good grasp of our basic concepts, we are

sure to achieve our goals.” She has the perfect bit

of advice for her juniors, “stay calm and love what

you learn, do not panic.” She concludes by saying

that “the college has an amicable ambience which

helped me achieve my goals”.

Vijayamba R.

She is the topper from Arts who was invited to

speak with II PPES and give motivation and impart

bits of knowledge that she felt might be useful. She

spoke to the students about her experiences and

difficulties that she had to go through in order to

achieve such results. One important fact that she

stressed upon was the three hours she spent in the

examination hall. “The 15 minutes given for

revising the question paper are very crucial. You

must go through the questions and prioritize. I

usually start with the ten markers but you can start

with whatever that makes you comfortable. But

remember that time management is the key.” She

also spoke about how crucial it was to have a neat

and tidy question paper; it must be both

presentable and legible. A final piece of advice, as

CJC places emphasis on extracurricular activities it

becomes tedious to study every day, but make sure

that studying is done well in advance when the

exams are around the corner, even the unit tests

are important.

the substance of knowledge and helped me understand the topics right down to the roots.” There were definitely a lot of hurdles and challenges that he faced to make it this far. “Yes, sometimes it was hard. But I never lost hope. I think the only way a student can be successful in whatever he undertakes, is by primarily staying focused. That is the only way one can persevere and reap all the fruits of one's handwork." Well, we all have one particular question in mind. How can one reach such great heights? Is there a particular secret to success? When I enquired about his recipe for success, he had a very simple yet meaningful message to say to all of us students who aspire to achieve exactly what he was able to. "Stay focused. Don't lose hope. Hard work is very important, true. But at the same time, it's very important for one to stop and remember to have fun once in a while. Shoot for the stars, aim for the moon, and aspire to reach the sun. Let out the Christite spirit dwelling inside you. Because for all you know, you might be the next one being written about next year this time around.

Ajay Gopal (II PCMB - A)

Talking to our other hard worker, Ajay Gopal, who was another

great achiever that CJC is proud to write home about, and our

college's topper in the science stream, with a grand total of 578 on

600 [96.33], was indeed an inspiration for me. Ajay claims that the

joy of realizing he had achieved and conquered was indeed

overwhelming. "I had not expected that I would top my college.

But when I learned that I had, it was a feeling of immense gratitude

toward my college. It indeed is a great deal of pride and honor for

me to say that I'm a proud Christite. I am very grateful to all my

teachers at Christ who taught me all that helped me accomplish."

He was not just your idea of your regular nerd, who would walk

around with his nose buried in a book. He always tried to keep

himself busy, by participating in all the possible events and took

advantage of all opportunities the college gave him. "I didn't orient

myself to studying every moment of the day. I also grabbed all the

chances that CJC gave me. The stress on holistic development is

indeed an important factor in a student's overall well being."

Indeed, great minds always have a certain knack of doing things.

How did Ajay manage to aim and fire at his goal perfectly? "There is

no other secret to success or a shortcut than hard work. That is

definitely what everybody told me. I never lost clarity of my strong

desire to become an engineer, and maybe that was what helped me

persevere throughout the entire year."

Harshitha. N (II PCMB - F)

Adding to the scintillating performances this year, Harshitha N

made a splash by not only scoring a whooping 95.33 percentage stbut also for securing the 41 rank in the Medical CET examination.

She is all praise for the teachers at CJC describing them as “open

and motivating and always ready to clarify doubts”. “CJC”, she says

“enhances personality and is a perfect blend of activities and

academics.” Being an outstanding student herself, she stresses

that “The Excellent Student Programe gave me a good exposure

and the innumerable MCQ's helped me understand that

Five Pointer

Giridhar ]

Giridhar, who scored a whopping centum in Business Studies and Statistics, 99 in Accounts and 98 in Basic Mathematics. The

topper of Commerce stream had a conversation with us, and here is what he had to say…

Priyanka: Congrats, 97.33% was mind blowing… So, how do you feel right now?

Giridhar: I was very happy and excited; my parents' happiness doubled mine. I expected this percentage so it wasn't really a

surprise, but I felt very relieved.

P: OK… Your first reaction on knowing you scored 584 out of 600?

G: A smile on my face… I don't react much, that is my nature, I was just very happy.

P: You fought your way to the throne, leaving the second highest behind by just a mark. Your thoughts on this?

G: The margin in which I topped was very less. It was my aim to top the college, so it is just that I achieved my goal.

P: In the days between your exams and results, what was your confidence level?

G: I knew my performance was good, so I wasn't worried much, but I was anxious as it was Board's correction. I had

forgotten about the results for some time and the anxiousness just re-appeared as the topic of results hit the newspaper.

P: What was your expectation about results? Were the results satisfying?

G: All the subjects were satisfying except Sanskrit because I expected 100 but just got 94.

P: A piece of advice to juniors…

G: Hmmm…Perform well in all the internal examinations because I think that is the whole point about college and take active

part in all extracurricular activities, it would make your college life memorable.

Our achievers have spoken. Now it's time to assimilate and understand the core importance of what they have said. It isn't just about listening to them speak about achieving and be awed, but it is also about how you can fly to a greater extent. Do not be disheartened by small failures or disappointments. Instead, challenge yourself constantly to do better. Nothing can ever be easy. But by living each day to the fullest, you are reaching one step closer to fulfilling your dreams and ambitions. So don't give up! March on my dear Christites! To the arenas of the unknown and emerge victorious and proud.

(II CAMS - K)

II PU Inauguration

Do you remember the day, about a year ago, when we walked into those big doors of the audi block, with a high voltage of

excitement and nervousness, like lost puppies, how we found our way to the HUGE auditorium? And the rest was a roller

coaster ride………….

ndWell, the inauguration ceremony of 2 PU was a déjà vu with the same excitement and nervousness (but of lesser

magnitude) flooding me……

It was a grand event, the perfect one to kick start the academic year 2011-12, to renew old enthusiasm and to inspire us for

years to come.

Rev.Fr. Thomas .C. Mathew Vice Chancellor, Christ University presided over the ceremony as the guest of honour, his words inspired us to reach greater heights than our seniors. The victory of our state Rank holders and toppers from I and II

PUC were acknowledged and celebrated. The cultural fiesta choreographed in a classical fashion took everything to a new

level. In the end, the entire auditorium reverberated with the tune of “March on Christities March on…” which everyone sang

with their heads held high and hearts ever so strong, and all of us looking forward to II year from a bright new angle.

After the inauguration the classes were all given an orientation session where ideas were put into perspective and

motivation levels were high. Though we all face a tough year ahead with all its trials and tribulations, it's good to be back and

now with a different perception of everything that we went through in I PU.

Super 'Six'er!

I PU INAUGURATION Here at Christ Junior College, we welcome you arms

wide open.

The I PU inauguration 2011 - 2012 was a huge success.

The event spanned out for an hour, exposing the newly

branded Christites to the wonderful aims and

opportunities one could grab at CJC. The program was

indeed awe inspiring for our beloved first years, who

were able to get a tiny taste of what they would be able

to do in the years ahead. Rev.Fr. Thomas C. Mathew

Vice Chancellor, Christ University presided over the

ceremony along with our beloved principal Rev. Fr. Jose

C.C. The kind words of encouragement they offered

filled the students with excitement as they prepared

We assure you that you are in the best of hands, and will

be taken care of like a tender plant with a lot of care and

guidance that would definitely help you fly high in the

sky with pride in your wings.

Welcome First Years!!!

College facilities: The various things available in college that will make

your college life quite comfortable (Hopefully)

LIBRARY: A haven of knowledge, a paradise of peace (I

mean it you have to be really quiet!!)and an

unfathomable sphere of learning. Even though the

monotony of it all will bore you down, it's an

invigorating experience for true book lovers or seekers

of knowledge. The web OPAC is a feature which

separates all the other mediocre libraries from our very

own as it aids us in the process of scavenging for a

book of choice. To complement the wide assortment of

books, magazines and journals (some by our own

Christies) a breach upon the techno era has been made

by the introduction of many computer systems. It is

also one of the forums for showcasing the many talents

of us Christies in various events.

STATIONERY: The ivy hall is also a one stop shop for

your stationery needs. It supplies photocopies,

laminations and printouts. It's abundantly stacked with

not only regular stationery but also lab coats records,

textbooks and bus pass forms. A word to the wise do

carry extra change as the enterprising people at the

counter have a lowly habit of providing questionable

value for the lack of it.

QUADRANGLE: A private Audi just for us PU students

to cherish and display our hidden worth. It is a

coliseum for activities that brings students from all

streams to a common ground. This field of

unimaginable opportunity can grant a whole new

dimension of exposure to dance, music, theatre, public

speaking and much more.

SPORTS COMPLEX: The high efficiency of our college

has provided different grounds for numerous sports.

These fields are accessible at most times and made

optimum use of by a majority of students especially

during lunch and post college hours.

COMPOST AND PAPER RECYCLING PLANT: As

Christites we do our best to promote a zero waste zone

in and around the vicinity. The addition of the compost

and paper recycling plants has not only reduced waste

but also provide a means for employment to

underprivileged women.

A short guide to I PUC Hello first years! Or should I call you my juniors? I'll stick

to juniors. That makes me feel good about myself. Ok, so

everything you heard about Christ Junior College is true.

But no, the teachers don't turn into dragons and spit fire

at you. They all actually evolve into being really great

friends. I actually look forward to coming to college!

I remember my first month. Horrible! I had to really

struggle to adjust to everything. But now I blend in like a

chameleon. What awaits you? Studies, fun, fests, rules,

food, signatures, serial numbers, friends, class culturals,

teachers, more friends, climbing stairs, competitions,

free internet access, more rules, getting in trouble for

breaking rules and the list goes on.

Christ Junior College is what it is today because of its

discipline and excellence. It is the reason that it becomes

everyone's first choice because of its high standards.

Stick to the rules and respect your teachers and your life

in Christ College will truly be an amazing experience.

Always remember why you picked it. It will keep you

going in case you lose track along the way. Oh and

before I forget, enjoy college! Freak out, and then freak

out some more! Not too much otherwise you won't have

any friends. Don't burden yourselves with too much.

You're only in PU. We have a lifetime ahead of us. This is

from the mouth of a great man whose words I think are

apt for this “keep it simple silly”.

Goodbye and Godspeed.

Lucky Seven

Lunch-bot or notGreetings to all foodies out there! By now, you might have caught up with pretty much of everything about CJC and its

awesomeness. Well, we aren't the ones to disappoint, so be ready to give your taste buds an enthralling and appetizing

experience during your stay in Christ Junior College. Here awaits tons of scrumptious food for you to gorge upon. So gear

up, and we'll take you on a tour around the munch and brunch hotspots in CJC!

1) IVY HALL

Hot: An array of food ranging from actual substance food to the knick knacks and other delicacies and pastries. It's

multipurpose as you can fulfill your stationery needs and your appetite at the same time. Be it being late, unable to

complete your project or even a wardrobe malfunction (yes the ivy does sell safety pins, super glue, hair oil and what

not!)

Not: The ambience is quite a letdown due to the inaccessibility of light in the basement of the auditorium block. There is

also a race against time for the reservation of seats due to the huge masses.

We recommend: Chicken roti roll, Paneer roll, Chicken puff, Mug noodles

2) CAFETERIA

Hot: A paradise of veggie delights and other varieties of food that are housed within the walls of this restaurant. The

chairs here are a great way to amuse yourself if you find that you have plentiful time.

Not: This is not at all a place for carnivores, If what you require is a nice non vegetarian meal the ivy hall or even the

food court will fulfill your needs.

We recommend: Gobi Manchurian, North Indian Thali

3) FOOD COURT AND FRESHATERIA

Hot: This is a great place for health conscious freaks and junk ones too with the availability of sandwiches and chaats

along with fresh juices. It is also an amazing place for ambience and aura. Plus You have absolute freedom to demand

for even the weirdest of combinations, and you are served accordingly .Besides, what more would you want than to

grab a yummy bite, have a soda and play some ball!

Not: Not a good idea for people who require a good and solid lunch.

We recommend: Masala puri, Cutlet chaat, Cheesy Veggie, Pav Baji
