ECAC Hockey Rookie of the WeekQuinnipiac mens ice hockey freshman Matthew Peca (Pet-awawa, Ontario) was named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week on Wednesday, Feb. 29, as announced by the league office. The award is Pecas second of the season after he won the honor on Oct. 24, 2011.

Quinnipiacs February Athlete of the MonthPeca also had an impressive month, leading the team with 12 points on a goal and 11 assists, while also posting a team-best four multiple-point games. He had a pair of assists against Harvard before recording a one-goal, two-assist performance in a 7-6 win at Clarkson. His other multiple-point games came against Brown (4 assists) and Yale (2 as-sists), respectively.

Pretty ImpressivePeca had an unbelievable weekend against Brown and Yale as he became the first Quinnipiac player in University his-tory to record an assist on six consecutive goals and also the first to record an assist on every goal the Bobcats scored on the weekend.

Keep It Going, KidPeca is currently a finalist for the ECAC Hockeys Rookie of the Year award and currently sits at 30 points in his first season, good for second place among all Bobcat skaters, on the power of 23 assists. Peca is just the fourth player in program history to reach 30 points in his first season and the fifth to reach 20 assists. The last player to hit both marks was Bryan Leitch in 2005-06.

Jones Note, Part 1Kellen Jones teamed with Peca to factor into all four of Quin-nipiacs goals in its 4-1 victory against Brown on Friday. The second-year Bobcat tallied two goals and two assists in the win. For the year, Kellen is one of three Bobcats with 30 points to date, and is the only Quinnipiac skater to reach double figures in goals (12) and assists (18).

Jones Note, Part 2Kellens twin brother, Connor, currently leads Quinnipiac in assists (26) and points (35), both career highs in his young career. Connor also leads Quinnipiac with 11 multiple-point games after posting identical one-goal, one-assist nights against Brown and Yale last weekend. More than half of his 35 points, 18 to be exact, have come in his last 14 games played.

Two Grinders, For The RoadPertetual-work-horses-in-motion Cory Hibbeler and Reese Rolheiser led the Bobcats offense in their ECAC Weekend split at Rensselaer and Union. Hibbeler and Rolheiser both had a goal and an assist in the Bobcats 3-1 win against RPI, while Hibbeler found the back of the net against Union, while Rolheiser picked up an apple.

The Offensive DefensemanLoren Barron and Zack Currie are currently tied for the defensemen-lead in goals scored on the team, with eight apiece.

Before You Ask...The Quinnipiac record for goals by a defenseman is held by Wade Winkler, who scored 14 times during the 2002-03 season. Reid Cashmans 13 goals in 2004-05 rank 2nd while Dan Ennis slots into the third spot with nine, also in the 2002-03 season.

Actually...Theyre All Getting In On ItFor the first time in Quinnipiac history, defensemen Barron (8-11-19), Currie (8-7-15), Zach Tolkinen (4-11-15) and Zach Davies (2-11-13) give the Bobcats four blue-liners ranked among the teams top-10 scorers.

The Bobcats At The BankQuinnipiac is 58-33-12 (.599) in 103 games at the TD Bank Sports Center, since its first game, a 7-0 win against Holy Cross, on Jan. 28, 2007. Quinnipiacs 100th Mens Ice Hockey Game at the TD Bank Sports Center will fall on Feb. 3, 2012 against Harvard. In 12 postsea-son games, Quinnipiac is 10-2.

Highway To KellKellen Jones led Quinnipiac to a wild 7-6 ECAC Hockey win against Clarkson on Saturday, Feb. 11 when he totaled a career-best five points, including his first career hat trick.

Hat Trick FactsJones three-goal performance was the Bobcats second hat trick of the season, following Jeremy Langlois three-timer against Canisius on Oct. 15, and 26th all-time while Jones five points were the most this season. In a back-and-forth battle against the Golden Knights, Jones scored twice in the second period to pull Quinnipiac within a goal before tying the game late in the third period. He also assisted on the game-winning goal from Loren Barron.

Five Point FactsJones five-point night was the first at Quinnipiac since Nov. 14, 2008 when Bryan Leitch had three goals and two assists in a win at Union.

Everybody Gets One20 Different Quinnipiac skaters have scored for the Bobcats this season, the second most in NCAA Division I hockey.

The Penalty Kill Is WorkingQuinnipiac is currently second (89%) on the penalty kill, their highest ranking since Quinnipiac finished the 2004-05 season ranked 4th in the nation.

ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the WeekQuinnipiac senior Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ontario) has been named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2012. For the weekend, Clarke was 1-0-0 with a .951 save per-centage while also posting a 1.66 goals-against average after letting up two goals in 72:28 in net. Clarke made an appearance in the Bobcats 6-3 loss to Harvard on Friday, Feb. 3, turning away 7-of-8 shots on goal in the final period of play. He came back on the following night, earning his first start since Dec. 9, 2011, with a 32-save performance in a 2-1 ECAC Hockey win against Dartmouth.

...one for each finger...The honor is Clarkes fifth of his career after winning four ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week awards as a sophomore in 2009-10. This season, Clarke is 7-3-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage. For his career, Clarke is 31-32-5 with a 2.57 GAA and a .905 save percent-age with five shutouts.

Elite CompanyWith two assists against Harvard, following a goal-and-an-assist game against Colgate, Matthew Peca joined Con-nor Jones and Scott Zurevinski as the only players to post back-to-back multiple-point games this season. Jones has accomplished the feat twice (Oct. 12 & 15; Nov. 1 & 4) while Zurevinski did it on Oct. 15-16.

Quinnipiacs January Athlete of the MonthJunior Zack Currie was named Quinnipiacs January Ath-lete of the Month. The third-year Bobcat currently leads all Quinnipiac defenseman in points (7 goals, 7 assists, 14 points) thanks in large part to a strong January in which the junior scored two goals and assisted on four more. Currie was the only Bobcat in Quinnipiacs line-up to produce two multiple-point games in QUs four games for the month. He assisted on both goals in a 2-1 upset of ECAC Hockey rival and nationally-ranked No. 20 Yale, before scoring once and assisting on another goal in a 7-1 route of No. 12 Colgate. Currie added assists against Brown and Cornell, making him one of two players on Quinnipiacs roster to tally a point in all four games this month.

Mr. Hockey At The BankQuinnipiac improved to 3-0 all-time when NHL Hall of Famer Gordie Mr. Hockey Howe is attendance, as was the case on Jan. 14 when arguably the games greatest took in Quinnipiacs 7-1 win against Colgate.

First Half Notes Quinnipiac headed into the annual Holiday Break in third place in the ECAC Hockey standings with nine points (3-4-3) with an overall record of 11-6-3 after posting a five-game unbeaten streak (4-0-1).

First Half All-ECAC Hockey Jeremy Langlois was highlighted by Joe Gladziszewski as one of six players selected to InsideCollegeHockey.coms INCHs First Half All-ECAC Hockey Team. Langlois cur-rently leads Quinnipiac in goals (12) and points (20) in 21 games played.

Non-Conference Dominance Quinnipiac is also 8-3-1 against all non-ECAC Hockey op-ponents this season.
