With the BALLS launch coming up at the end ofSeptember we are all working to prepare ourselves forthree days of High Power fun. Four days countingHAMSTER DANCE and a whole week for the Trekkersin us.

It’s curious to see the BALLS turn out this year withLDRS just weeks before. But it doesn’t really matterthough as true hardcore Research People know wherethe action will be.

The AHPRA guys have their ducks in order, as usual, and BALLS Registration is open and running. Get yourname on the BALLS Who’s Coming List if you alreadyhaven’t.

HAMSTER DANCE is moving along. The Waiver isapproved to 20,000 ft AGL, more than we’ll use! So farwe have a lot of talk about those people planning toparticipate but no one has registered yet. There is noregistration at the site. And remember Tripoli Gerlachmembers fly free.

Our First Annual Members Meeting will take place inBruno’s back speak easy room on Friday September 30at 7pm. Members attending will have a free SpaghettiDinner however you must notify Tom that you will bethere. A good list is already made but does it includeyou? If you haven’t already signed up contact Tom tomake sure.

At the meeting we will ratify our By-Laws. A copy hasbeen sent out with changes submitted by members. Please be sure to review it and be ready to vote. Anything you see amiss with the new version, again contactTOM with your input.

New Officers will be placed for 2012. These will benominated and voted on at the meeting. “New” Officerswill take seat January 2012.

The meeting should not take all that long and will not bevery business like. Just enough to cover a few bases andget back to the rocket world.

We’ve been approached by several outsiders aboutvisiting Fly Geyser. While it is not on our plans for thisyear we still have requests. One of the biggestinfluences was our last article on the Geyser with all ofus in the scene. - Nice Picture! Anyway, we might lookat a Trek over to the geyser Sunday afternoon after therange is cleared up. We can still be back in town in timefor dinner and last night socializing. Please keep thislow key as we can’t abuse our privilege with masses oftag alongs.

Membership in TRIPOLI GERLACH is open. If you plan to attend BALLS and wish to join in with usyou are more than welcome. Our Membership Meeting and Spaghetti Dinner holds a September 3rddeadline. Visit ourWebSite for anApplication Form.

Les Derkovitz lives in Pioche, Nevada. He is a Tripoli Gerlach FoundingMember as well as one of the originalNASSA Members. His activities in HighPower Rocketry go back to the earlyLucerne Days when he’d travel everymonth to Lucerne from his then home inLas Vegas. Les moved to Pioche afterretiring as a VocationalTeacher.

Also one of the founding members ofTripoli Vegas, Les got involved inResearch Rocketry while researchingmotor making technology with otherTripoli Vegas members who then formedNASSA, Nevada AeroSpace ScienceAssociates.

Les is well versed in all aspects of Research Rocketry.Working out of a small shop at home he is completelyself contained and able to handle any situation that mayarise. Particularly interested in motor making he keeps aclean well organized shop. Using both a Kitchen Aidand a Hobart he has become a master propellant tech.

Though he denies it, Les is a perfectionist. Seeing thequality and finish of his rockets proves this. A ratherquite guy he is always ready to help anyone who asks.

While actual flying has been reduced due to his attentionto details in motor making and rocket building, he willalways be found at the BALLS launches at Black Rock. And this year will see him at HAMSTER DANCE!
