“If a picture paints a thousand words…” I want to say four words to you, the 2010 volunteers …MEDORA VOLUNTEERS ARE AWESOME!

January 2010 started with our receiving applications from over 900 applicants. We then had to select our volunteers and send a “rejection” letter to hundreds. The only good part of that is that an unsuccessful California applicant, an HR person by trade, asked to use parts of it because she said it was the nicest rejection letter that she had ever seen.

With great anticipation, we saw the Rough Riders Hotel nearing completion. With 5 semi trailers filled with 68 rooms of furniture to unload, place in rooms, assemble and set up, the task seemed insurmountable. That is until I made a few calls, sent an e-mail and had more volunteers than we could take to come for four, five day sessions in March, from as far away as Minneapolis. Even more came in late April and early May to help with the RRH and to get the stores ready for an early opening. Then, we begin the 2010 season on the 10th of May, continuing non-stop until the 17th of September.

Highlights? There were hundreds, some of which are captured here in pictures; most are in the minds and hearts of you, our hundreds of volunteers, or the guests you served. Others are in the form of permanent projects completed in and around Me-dora by our Pre, End of Season and Fall Work Week volunteers.

To sum up 2010, it was in my opinion, the longest (from start to finish), largest, most diverse, smoothest running and in most aspects, the Best Medora volunteer experience ever.

As we enter the first year of a new year-round Medora Experience, there are lots of unknowns. What I know is that this program will continue to grow and mature, and there is unlimited potential in the ways in which volunteers like you, will make Medora thrive for our children, grandchildren and beyond.

On behalf of TRMF, its board, management and staff, Becky, Tawney and myself, thank you for the gift of your Energy, Enthusiasm and Experience, for all you do and all you are. Enjoy the enclosed yearbook, Tawney did a really nice job for all of you.

Pre-Season

Each year over 100 volun-teers come to Medora dur-ing the Off Season to make this great place even better! Without their efforts Medo-ra would not be as snazzy or function as well as it does. These volunteers, like all of our volunteers make a pro-found dif-ference for Medora. Thank you for all of your hard work!
