Intercollegiate athletic participation is an integral part of the educational mission of the University and ath-letic competition is offered to enhance the total development of the student.
Through the Intercollegiate Athletic Program, the University endeavors to provide student-athletes with proper direction and motivation to help them grow academically, athletically, morally and socially.

Astate-supportedinstitutionfoundedin1910,Radfordoffersmorethan140undergradu-ateandgraduatedegreeprogramsinsevencolleges.TheinstitutionoffersBachelorofArts,Science,FineArts,BusinessAdministration,MusicTherapy,MasterofScience,ArtsandEducationalSpecialistsdegrees.ArmyROTCisavailable.

PenelopeWardKylebecameRadfordUniversity’ssixth,andfirstfemale,presidentwhenshetookofficeonJune1,2005.ShecametoRUwithmorethan30yearsofexperienceinstategovernment,thecorporateandlegalworlds,andhighereducation.
Uponassumingthepresidency,PresidentKyleimmediatelyfocusedonleadingtheuniversity’sinitiativetobecomeoneofthetop50mastersuniversitiesinthenation.
TheRadfordUniversitystrategicplan“7-17”,completedin2007atherdirection,identifiesfourstrategicdirec-tives--theinvestmentinpeople,programs,globalandlocalsocietyandthefutureofRadfordUniversity.
UnderPresidentKyle’sleadership,theuniversityalsoaddeditsfirstdoctoralprogramwithanemphasisinruralmentalhealthandlaunchedaninitiativetogrowgraduatecollegestudentenrollmentbyofferingadditionaldoctoralandmasterslevelprograms.Shehiredtheuniversity’sfirstprovostandcreatedtwonewvicepresiden-tialareasofresponsibility,InformationTechnologyandUniversityRelations.
TheRadfordUniversityBoardofVisitors,atPresidentKyle’srequest,hasincreaseditsmembershipbyfourpositionstoprovideanopportunityformorediversityandleadershipinnovationwithinthegoverningbody.
AnativeofsouthwestVirginia,PresidentKyleisaproductoftheGalaxpublicschoolssystem.ShegraduatedfromGuilfordCollegeinGreensboro,NorthCarolinaanddidherpostgraduatestudiesinEnglishatSouthernMethodistUniversityinDallas,Texas.ShereceivedherJurisDoctoratefromtheUniversityofVirginiaSchoolofLawandlaterearnedherMBAfromtheCollegeofWilliamandMary.
PresidentKyleservedasExecutiveDirectoroftheVirginiaLotteryfor11years,underthreesuccessivegovernors.FirstappointedbyGovernorGeorgeAllenin1994,shewasreappointedbyGovernorJamesGilmore,andthenreappointedonceagainbyGovernorMarkWarner.Previously,Ms.KylewasemployedbyCSXCor-poration,aninternationaltransportationcompany,whereshebecamethecompany’sfirstfemaleofficer.BeforejoiningCSXCorporation,shewasanattorneywithMcGuire,Woods,LLPinRichmond.ShealsotaughtEnglish
forsixyearsatThomasNelsonCommunityCollegeinHampton,Virginia.PresidentKyleservesinleadershippositionsonnumerouseducational,civic,cultural,professional,financialandvolunteerorganizations.Sheserved
ontheBoardofVisitorsatJamesMadisonUniversityfrom1984until1992andontheJMUFoundationBoard1992until1994.ShealsoservedontheVirginiaCommonwealthUniversityFoundationBoardfrom1994until2000andontheBoardofGovernorsofSaintChristopher’sSchoolfrom1999until2005.PresidentKyleiscurrentlyamemberoftheBoardofDirectorsoftheRoanokeRegionalChamberofCommerceandisamemberoftheBoardofDirectorsofPRA,Inc.,apubliclytradedcompany.

RADFORD ATHLETICSTheRadfordUniversityathleticprogramoffers19varsitysports,eightformenand11for
women:men’sandwomen’sbasketball,crosscountry,golf,soccer,tennis,indoorandout-doortrack,alongwithfieldhockey,swimming,softballandvolleyballforwomen,andbase-ballformen.TheDedmonCenterandtheoutdoorathleticfacilities,whichsurroundthemulti-purpose
buildingaretheaward-winningfocalpointofaprogramthathasgrownrapidlythelastthreedecades.Theathleticprogramhasgrowndramaticallysince1974-75,whenmen’ssportswerefirst
offeredonavarsitylevel.Growthoftheprogramhasbeenrapid,butnotrandom.Eachstephasbeencarefullycontrolled,withnewsportsbeingaddedonlytomeetexistingdemandsandonlyafterassurancesforaqualityoperationcouldbemet.Theresultisawell-balancedandhighlysuccessfulprogram.RadfordcurrentlycompetesintheBigSouthConference.Achartermemberoftheyoung
league,Radfordhaswon39Leaguetitlesin10differentsportsandhasadvancedtoNCAApostseasonplayinsevensports.Highlanderathleticsoffersstrongsupportforitsstudent-athletes.Fromacademicadvis-
ingtocomplianceservices,Radfordgivesitsstudent-athletesthesupportneededtobesuccessfulintheclassroom.Radford’sathletictrainingandstrengthandconditioningpro-gramsallowthestudent-athletestocompeteattheirbestpossiblelevel.Atrueteamatmosphere,theHighlanderfamilyconsistsofeachandeveryRadfordstu-

SincebeingintroducedasRadfordUniversity’sDirectorofAthleticsinthefallof2007,RadfordnativeRobertLineburghashelpedusherinaneweraofHighlanderathletics,markedbyunprecedentedon-andoff-fieldimprovementsandsuccesses.
Inhisshorttimewiththedepartment,Lineburghasbeenthecatalystforanumberofchanges,particularlyinareassuchasfacilities,personnelandstrategicplanning.
HismostvisibleinfluencetodatehasbeenontheDedmonCenter,whereLineburghasbeeninvolvedwithmajorrenovationstothecenter-pieceofRadfordathleticsformorethan25years.Beginninginthespringof2008,thefacilityunderwenttransformationstothearena,includinganewsteel-supportedroof,anewbasketballfloor,renovatedathleticof-fices,anew-looknatatorium,andimprovedathleticlocker,training,andmedicalfacilities.
AlongwiththeinitialtransformationstotheDedmonCenter,anim-provedstate-of-the-artstrengthandconditioningroom,newticketofficeandLearningEn-hancementCenter(LEC),whichhousesstudent-athleteaca-demicsupport,werecompleted/addedin2009.
In2010,facilityupgradesincludedanewhigh-techvideoboard/soundsystemtotheDedmonCenteraswellasanewplayingsurface/irrigationsystemanddugoutstotheRad-fordUniversityBaseballField.
Lineburghasalsooverseenthehiresoffivenewheadcoaches,aswellassixnewathleticadministrators.Hishiresincludewomen’sbasketballheadcoachTajNjongba,headvolleyballcoachMarciJenkins,women’sheadgolfcoachJeffBeeler,headmen’ssoccercoachMarcReevesandthepromotionoftrackandfieldinterimdirec-
torBrentChumbleytoheadcoaches’status.AmongtheadministratorsaddedinLineburg’stenureareexecutiveassociateA.D.RandyButt,headathletictrainerChadHyatt,assistantA.D.forcommunicationsJoeyBeeler,directorofstudent-athletesupportservices/seniorwomen’sadministratorStephanieBallein,AssociateA.D.forexternaloperationsGregHerring,andDirectorofFacilitiesBradEpperley.
Asaresultofthechanges,Radfordachievedabanneryearin2008-09:women’ssoccer,men’sbasketball,men’stennisandsoftballclaimedBigSouthconferencecrownsandadvancedtoNCAATournamentplay.Women’ssocceradvancedtoitsfourthtournament,men’sbasketballwontheBigSouthregular-seasonandtournamenttitletoadvancetotheNCAAsforthefirsttimesince1998,men’stennismadeitsthird-straightappearance,andsoftballappearedforthefirsttimeandwonRadford’sfirst-everNCAAtournamentgameinanysport.
LineburgandtheHighlandersbackedtheirsuccessin2008-09withamen’stennisandsoftballBigSouthregularseasontitlein2009-10.MickeyDean’ssoftballteamwentontowintheirsecondstraightconferencetour-namentcrownbeforeadvancingtotheAthens,GeorgiaRegionalfinalwithtwomoreNCAATournamentvictories.
Heandhisstaffhavealsobeenresponsibleforcreatingafive-yearstrategicplanfortheRadfordathleticdepartmentandbuildinganathleticsfacilitiesmasterplan.AdditionalachievementsincludeusheringinanewathleticsInternetsite(RadfordAthletics.com),andhelpingimplementanewticketsystem(TicketReturn).Lineburgandhisstaffhavealsohostedtop-levelcompetition,withfiveBigSouthchampionshipstakingplaceontheRadfordcampusfrom2008-10..

InadditiontomakinganimpactonRadfordathletics,Lineburgisalsoinvolvedinanumberofdifferentorganizationsandcommittees.HeisthechairmanoftheBigSouthConferenceonBasketballImprovement,amemberoftheBigSouthad-hocCommitteeonBasketballIssues,andamemberoftheselectioncommitteetoselectRadfordUniversity’sVicePresidentforAdvancement.
PriortobecomingRadford’sthirdDirectorofAthletics,Lineburg’scorpo-rateknowledgewasgroomedasamarketingassociatewithPelotonRealEstatePartnersinDallas,Texas.
Alongwithhisbusinessexperience,Lineburgspent15seasonsasacollegebasketballcoach,includingtimeasSouthernMethodist’sinterimheadcoach.PriortoservingastheMustangsinterimheadcoach,LineburgspenteightyearsasanassistantatSMU.Followinghisinterimtenure,heservedtwomoreseasonsasanassistantcoachatSouthernMethodist.
Lineburg’scoachingresumealsoincludesassistantcoachingpositionswiththemen’sbasketballprogramsatJamesMadisonUniversityandEmo-ry&HenryCollege,aswellaswiththeDallasMaverickssummerleagueteam.HiscoachingexperiencealsotookhimthroughtheBigSouth,ashespenttimeonthesidelineatUNCGreensboro.
A1991graduateofRoanokeCollege,LineburgstartedhiscollegiatebasketballcareerasaHighlander,wherehewasatwo-yearlettermanbeforetransferringtonearbyRoanokeCollegetoplayhisfinaltwoyears.
HeearnedhisBachelor’sinpoliticalsciencewithaminorinhistory.In1995,hereceivedaMaster’sDegreeineducationfromVirginiaTech,wherehewasalsoagraduateassistantonthemen’sbasketballstaff.
LineburgisthesonofretiredRadfordHighSchoolfootballcoachandathleticdirectorNormanLineburgandthebrotherofDr.MarkLineburg,theSuperintendentofBristolCitySchools,PaulLineburg,theAssistantPrinci-palatWilliamByrdH.S.andWayneLineburg,whoisinhisfirstseasonastheoffensivecoordinatorattheUniversityofRichmond.
HeismarriedtotheformerMaryParish,alsoanativeofRadford.

STUDENT-ATHLETE SUPPORT SERVICESThemissionoftheStudent-AthleteSupportServices(SASS)officeforRadfordUniversityAthleticsistopromote,assist,andprovidecounseltoallstudent-athletes.Itsprimary,constantgoalistode-velopgraduatesandoutstandingcitizenswhohavecontributedintheareasofathleticcompetitionduringtheirtenuresofeducation.
LocatedintheDedmonAthleticCenter,thenewlyestablishedLearningEnhancementCenterisequippedwithcomputers,tutorialrooms,andastudylounge.
TheLearningEnhancementCenterprovidesdirectionforstudent-athletesviaacademiccounselinginconjunctionwithadvisorsfromtherespectivecollegesatRadfordUniversity.Academicsupportservicessuchastutoringandsupervisedstudyhallareprovided,aswellascareerplanning,moni-toringofeligibilitystatus,andahostofotherguidanceandadvisoryservices.

RU HOCKEY FIELDConstructed in1981,RadfordUniversityHockeyFieldservesashometo theRadford’sFieldHockeyprogram.Thefield itself is
naturalgrass,oneofonlytwoNorPacConferencefacilitiestoofferanaturalplayingsurface.
The fansideof the fieldoffersseating for fans,while theoppositeside features the teambenches,ascorer’s tableareaandadedicatedscoreboard.
Italsofeatureslights,allowingtheteamtopracticeorplayafterdark.OriginallydesignedasRadford’sintercollegiatesoccerfield,thestadiumwasconvertedforFieldHockey-onlyusein2002.
ThefieldispartoftheDedmonCenter,astate-of-the-artrecreationalandconvocationcomplex,openedin1981.Thecenterwasonlythetenthpermanentstructurewithanair-supportedfabricroofbuiltintheUnitedStates,anditssuperbdesignandversatilityhavemadeitaneye-poppingadditiontocampus.
Thecomplexfeaturesanatatoriumandoutsidefacilitieswhichincludeabaseballfield,tenniscourts,asoftballfield,intramuralfieldsandanoutdoorjoggingtrack.

EachRadfordUniversitystudent-athletehasstrengthandconditioningprogramsuniquetotheirgoalsasaplayer.Thisprogram,developedbyShumaker,helpsprepareRADFORDstudent-athletesforthelongandrigorousin-seasonschedule.

Formedin1982,theNorPacConferencehasevolvedoverthepast27yearsfromaninitialCaliforniamembershiptothecurrenteastandwestblend.ThreeoftheoriginalteamsincludePacific,StanfordandCalifornia.BothAppalachianStateandDavidsonacceptedinvitationstojoinin2000,followedbyRadfordin2001.
Longwoodwasaddedtotheconferencein2005asaprovisionalmemberwhilereclassifyingtoaDivisionImembership.AfterfulfillingNCAAreclassificationrequirements,Longwoodbecameeligibleforitsfirstconferencetournamentin2007andhostedthe2008championship.
UCDavisisthenewestadditiontotheleague.AftertheAggies’programwaselevatedfromclubtointercollegiatestatus,theNorPacConferenceannouncedtheadditionofUCDavisinJuly2008.TheAggies,in2009,wentontocompeteinafullconferencescheduleandparticipatedintheleaguetournament.
WiththeadditionofUCDavisastheeighthmember,theconferencereestablishedEasternandWesterndivisionalplayin2009.TheAggiesjoinedCalifornia,PacificandStanfordtomakeuptheWestDivision.AppalachianState,Davidson,LongwoodandRadfordformedtheEastDivision.Theround-robindivisionalplaywillculminatewiththeconferencechampionshiptournamentforalleightmembers.
In2010,thetournamentreturnstoDavidsonforthethirdtime,joiningStanford(four)andSaintLouis(three)asmultiple-yearhosts.AppalachianState(2001),California(2005)andLongwood(2007)haveservedasahostinstitutiononce.
In1998,thegrowthanddevelopmentoftheNorPacasanNCAAsingle-sportconferencewasassistedbyathree-yeargrantfromtheUnitedStatesOlympicCommittee(USOC)andtheNCAA,aswellasbyapartnershipwithandsupportfromtheUnitedStatesFieldHockeyAssociation(USFHA).Throughthegrantopportunity,therestructuringoftheconferenceincludedmembersCalifornia,DavisandElkinsCollege,MissouriState,Pacific,SaintLouisandStanford.
Since1999,theNorPacFieldHockeyConferencehasreceivedanNCAAplay-inopportunityoraconferenceautomaticqualification(2005).OverthepastdecadeNorPacrepresentativesare8-2inNCAAplay-ingames.

JeffWoodswillberoamingthesidelinesastheHighlanders’headcoachforhis25thseasonin2010.AsthelongesttenuredheadcoachatRadford,Woodshasalonglistofaccomplishments,bothasacoachandaplayer.
Woodsiscomingofftheoneoftheprogram’sbestseasonsinrecentyears.TheHighlandersclaimedtheirthirdEastDivisionregularseasontitleandpostedawinningrecord(11-10)in2009,whileseveralmembersofhissquadwererecognizedwithleagueandstateaccolades.
Forthefirsttimesinceits2001inductionintotheNorPac,aschoolre-cordfourstudent-athletesclaimedall-conferencehonors,includingtwoonthefirstteamaswellashisgoalkeeper,whogarneredDefensivePlayeroftheYear(EastDivision)honors.Alongwiththoseaccolades,twomembersearnedall-staterecognition.
Followinga5-1leagueslateayearago,Radfordhasposteda32-21recordinnineseasonsofcompetitionandstillremainstheonlyEastDivisionsquadtoplayfortheNorPacChampionship(2003).TheiroverallwintotalshavealsoimprovedsincethemovetotheNorPac.TheHigh-landershavewonatleasteightmatchesineightofthelastnineseasons,eventhoughitplaysatoughnon-conferenceschedulethatfeaturesseveralnationally-rankedop-ponentsontheroadeveryyear.
AnothersuccessunderWoodshasbeenRadford’splayathome,recordinga32-4marksince2000.Theywonaschool-recordsixhomematchesin2004andhavebeenperfectathomefiveofthelasteightseasons.
In2004,heguidedtheHighlanderstotheirfirstundefeatedconfer-encerecord(6-0NorPacEast)inschoolhistoryandaperfect6-0recordathome.In2003,heguidedRadfordtoitsfirstappearanceintheNorPacChampionshipGameinjusttheirthirdseasonintheconference.
AfterplayinganinstrumentalroleinRadfordjoiningtheNorPacin2001,heguidedthemtothe2002EastDivisiontitle.ItwasthefirstNor-Pactitleinschoolhistory,andtheHighlandersdidsoinjusttheirsecondseason.Theywouldgoontofinishthirdinthe2002NorPacChampion-ships,finishingtheseason9-11,theirbestfinishsince1996.Their4-1EastDivisionrecordwasthefirstwinningconferenceseasonsincegoing4-3duringthe1991seasonintheColonialAthleticAssociation.
Underhisleadershipthepastnineseason,hehashad24ofhisplay-ersnamedtoall-conferenceteams,including2002&2004EastDivisionoffensiveplayersoftheyearErinLenhardtandHopeBatesand2009EastDivisionDefensivePlayeroftheYear,JenniferWisniewski.
IntheirinauguralNorPacseason,heguidedtheHighlanderstoan8-15overalland3-3conferencerecord,tyingforsecondplaceintheEastdivision.Twoofhisplayers,TessaBrookesandBrookePeterson,werenamedtotheall-conferencefirstandsecondteamsrespectively.Petersonalsogarneredall-tournamenthonors.
WoodspickeduphisfirstNorPacwinonSept.9,2001,intheirinaugu-ralgame,defeatingAppalachianState2-1athome.Radfordalsowontheconsolationchampionshipattheirfirsttournamentwithanother2-1victoryovertheMountaineers.
Overtheyears,hehasenjoyedsuccessatboththecollegiateandinternationallevels.Hehasbeenrecognizedforhisachievementsinthecoachingranksovertheyears.In1996,heledtheHighlanderstoa10-8markandwasnamedtheColonialAthleticAssociationCoachoftheYear.In1991,WoodsguidedRadfordtoa17-7record,itsmostsuccessfulseasonever,andwasnamedtheSouthRegionCo-CoachoftheYearbythenationalcoaches’association.
Internationally,WoodsservedasanassistantcoachfortheUSAMen’sFieldHockeysquadduringthe1996SummerOlympicsinAtlanta.In1991,WoodswastheassistantcoachfortheU.S.teamattheWorldUniversityGamesandthe1995PanAmericanGamesinArgentina.HealsocoachedatfiveU.S.OlympicSportsFestivalandguidedhisteamstogoldandsilvermedalfinishesin1989,1990and1993.
Woods,agraduateoftheDefenseInformationSchool(DINFOS)inPrint,BroadcastandElectronicJournalism,servedasaNavyJournalistwiththeAmericanForcesNetworkonMidwayIsland.HealsospenttimeattheNavalCommunicationsStation,HaroldE.Holt,ontheNorthwestCapeofAustralia.HisplayingcareerbeganoverseasasanexchangestudentatBirkbeckCollegeinLondonin1984.AfterreturningtotheU.S.,WoodsplayedontheEastteamduringthe1986U.S.OlympicSportsFestival.HewasalsoamemberoftheHalifaxFightingHaddocks.
Woods’coachingcareeralsostartedoverseaswhilestationedwiththeUnitedStatesNavyinAustralia.ItwastherethathebegancoachingtheAmericanbaseballteamastheytraveledtotournamentandgamesthroughoutWesternAustralia.HealsocompetedinNavyRugbyandplayedaseasonofAustralianRulesFootballwhilestationedinExmouth,W.Australia.

Asafour-yearstarter(2003-06),SaunderswasaversatileandcreativeplayerunderWoods.SheplayedkeyrolesinRadford’srunner-upfinishinthe2003NorPacTournamentandits2004EastDivisionchampionship,whichincludedaperfect6-0regularseason.
“TiffanyisagreatadditiontotheHighlanderfieldhockeyprogram,”saidWoods.“Herfamiliaritywithoursystemandwhatweexpectoutofourplayerswillmakeforasmoothtransitionintothecoachingranks.”
Playingalmosteverypositionexceptgoalkeeper,sheleftRadfordrankedsecondincareerassistswith20.Sheamassed11(secondmostinaRUsingleseason)ofthosehelpersduringabreak-outjuniorseasonwhensheassumedthefulltimeroleofstopper.That2005totalwasthemostsince1991andrankedhersecondoverallintheNorPac.
Saundersconcludedhercareerwithsevenassistsandthreegoalsduringherseniorcampaign,helpingtheHighlanderstoasecond-straightthirdplacevictoryintheNorPactournamentwhileearningall-tournamenthonorsin2006.
SaundersandherhusbandTerenceresideinChristiansburgwiththeirdaughterTaliana.
