    The Poster contest is open to all students in grades K-12.Students in public, private or home school.

    Who Can Participate ?

    Why Participate ?

    Designing a poster and researching the theme, can giveyou a voice in your community on important conservationissues. Good posters tell important stories to present andfuture generations. Posters capture peoples attentionwith a powerful graphic and inspire with a message to

    your community.

    Information ResourcesYou will want to learn all you can about the importance of habitat

    in your community and in your backyard. You can find resources atyour school or public library, science books, local newspapers, naturecenters and from the NACD websitewww.nacdnet.orgStewardship &Education section.

    With assistance from your teacher or parents the internet can alsoprovide information on the importance of habitat. Ask your teacherabout other possible resources in your community. Also be sure tocontact your local conservation district who can direct you to localprojects or other resources.

    National Visual Art StandardsDesigning a poster meets many of the national visual artstandards. You can find the list of the standards byvisiting www.nacdnet.orgStewardship & EducationPoster contest section.

    Rules

    The 2010 Stewardship title "Conservation Habits = HealthyHabitats" must be on your poster.

    Any media may be used to create a flat or two dimensionaleffects (paint, marker, crayon, charcoal or other material).

    Poster size must be between 8.5" x 11" and 22" x 28".

    Posters should be packaged so they remain flat when sent forjudging.

    All posters must be created by an individual student rather than

    a team of students.

    Poster Evaluations

    Posters will be judged by the SWCD staff and board ofsupervisors.

    The posters will be evaluated on the following criteria:conservation message (50%); visual effectiveness (30%);originality (10%); and universal appeal (10%)

    Local Winners will be notified during the week of April 19-23,2010.

    All posters except the 1st place winning entries will be returned

    to the respective schools for display after judging, during theweek of April 19-23, 2010.

    Prizes

    Local Prize: All participating classes will receive free

    conservation trees during the week of April 19-23, 2010. Thetrees will be delivered to the school, however, it will be theresponsibility of the school to plant and care for the trees.

    State Competition: The first place winners in each age-bracket will be sent to the State Competition in August.

    National Competition: State winners will be eligible for
