Mission Statement

• College of IST Alumni Society was established by the College of Information Sciences & Technology to maintain a professional network that can be leveraged by the College, students and alumni. As a society created by alumni for alumni, our continued goal is to provide assistance to the College, its students and to each other via programs of mutual benefit.

Alumni Relations Committee – Brian Freas

• Purpose: provide a professional support network to alumni of the College, while bridging the gap that may exist between the alumni and the IST community

• Accomplishments– Another successful Fall tailgate (breakfast) during Homecoming Weekend

– Commonwealth Campus Events

• Panel Discussion at Penn State Harrisburg

• Future Events– Regional tailgates/networking events

– Philadelphia Area Networking Event (King of Prussia)

– Pittsburgh Area Networking Event

– Additional commonwealth campus events (Berks/Abington/Brandywine)

Recruitment & Membership Committee – Byron Parry

Purpose: recruiting new members into the society and working within the Society to engage members

Supporting IST THON Dancers• Phillies PSU Night (9/4/2010)

Over 15 Alums attended, playing intense games of ladder ball

Raised $61, raffled off baseball signed by Cole Hamels and Jimmy Rollins

• IST Wiffleball (10/16/2010) 4 teams competed in a 3 hour tournament, which raised

$100, plus IBM donation Security Risk Analysis Club winner!

• THON 5k (10/17/2010) Over 15 participants represented IST $15 -18 per runner

• Purpose: Connecting IST and SRA students to the IST Alumni Society.

• Each semester, we provide 3-4 provide professional and social events and programs to students. We work together with students and faculty on these events:– IST and SRA student government and organizations– Alumni– Industry Experts– College Staff

Prospective Students Committee – Jake Thowart

Purpose: Work closely with IST students, faculty, and staff in order to supplement and expand on-and off-campus recruiting initiatives, whose goal is the increased interest of high school students, current students who are enrolled within DUS, and those students who have received an offer of acceptance into the College.

Recent activities (Fall 2010)• High School Speaker Series

– Identified three participants and provided information to them to support high school visits during the holiday season

• Holiday greeting note to new alumni– Included commentary in the greeting note to invite alumni to participate in High

School Speaker Series, if desired

Prospective Students Committee – Jake Thowart

Upcoming Spring 2011 plan• DUS/HS Student Chatrooms

– Coordinate IST alumni representation in four chatroom sessions hosted by the College of IST to answer questions from potential IST students (both high school and DUS students)

• IST Phonathon– Lead the calling of HS students

offered admission to the College of IST

• IST Open House– Supported the university in various

capacities during the annual IST Open House

Marketing & Communications Committee – Ryan Pfister

Purpose: Responsible for marketing all Society messages to the IST community, including prospective students, current students, and alumni through istalum.com, college’s website, facebook, twitter, iConnect etc.

• Purpose: Enhance existing programs and activities and to initiate new programs and activities to meet the objectives stated by the President

• Growth Initiative for 2010-2011– Identifying ways to retain members as a society

• How do we keep recent graduates interested?– Starting with base metrics of membership levels, to build growth

targets as a society– Direct impact to society funding

• Assisting with other IST Alumni initiatives

President Elect – Paul Horn

Finance Committee – Gary Ramsey

Purpose: Track of all financial activities for the society. The Treasurer will work directly with a financial point of contact in the College to keep track of all account activity.

Goals• Implement a plan that will grow the IST Scholarship $2,000

each year. • Identify and develop new funding sources and expand

existing (non-university) sources. • Obtain two funding sources/corporate sponsorships a year.

– Sponsorships will be used for alumni events and tailgates

• Develop a sponsorship level program– i.e., Levels for amount of money per sponsorship

Finance Committee – Gary Ramsey

• Updates

– 10 Dollar 2010 Donation Campaign

• Receive a 10$ donation

• Goal of 100% participation

• Utilize all forms of media (i.e., Twitter, istalum.com, Facebook)

Notable Events – Prerana Dalal

TEDxPSU• This day-long event will bring together innovative and

thought-provoking individuals from all over the Penn State community and the world to listen and share fascinating ideas worth spreading.

• Organized by a group of IST Alums: Steve Garguilo, Andrew Brown, Ryan Dickson, Rich McMillen, Mark Poblete, and Zach Zimbler
