Meet the CoachTony DaRocha is the Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field programs. He is a three-time Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Coach of the Year selection who has developed champions at the GNAC, New England Division III and Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) levels. His student-athletes have been honored for their athletic accomplishments as well as their performance in the classroom. The 2009 women’s cross country team was named a United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team while the track program placed more student-athletes on the 2009-2010 GNAC All-Academic Team than any other Emmanuel program.

Prior to Emmanuel, DaRocha was an exceptional high school coach. He grew the Boston Public Schools cross country program, expanding it from one person to 85 participants during his coaching tenure. Among his many accomplishments is the development of the Northeast’s only two-time male Foot Locker National Cross-Country Champion, training two National Champions in the 800-meter run, one in the 60m who went on to win the NCAA DI title two years later and two runner-ups in the mile. During his coaching reign at Boston English in men’s and women’s cross country and at Boston Latin in men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track & field, he developed four All-Americans, nine All-New England, 15 All-State and 74 individual league champions.

A 10-kilometer specialist, DaRocha owns a personal best of 29:11 and still competes as a member of the Boston Athletic Association. He is a graduate of Boston University where he earned All-East honors as a student-athlete. DaRocha holds a master’s degree in school administration from Cambridge College.

FacilitiesThe Saints practice at Roberto Clemente Field, located across the street from Emmanuel’s campus, which features a brand-new, three-lane rubberized track and extended practice facilities for field events. Throughout the year, the team competes at some of the top courses and facilities in the region, including the famed course at Franklin Park where the team hosts the annual Saints Cross Country Invitational. During the indoor season, the team practices and competes at the world-class Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center (indoor), which hosts prestigious events like the Reebok Boston Indoor Games. In addition, the Saints have access to a state-of-the-art training facility in the Jean Yawkey Center as well as the St. Joseph Hall fitness center, which is updated with new platforms, racks, free weights, plate-loaded equipment and a separate cardio room.

“Emmanuel College provides an amazing opportunity for student-

athletes to achieve success in the classroom, to compete athletically

in a comprehensive NCAA Division III environment, and to fully

participate in our campus community on a daily basis. Our

coaches totally support the academic mission of the college, and

our student-athletes continue to make us proud on an annual basis.”
