Being a member of the Sacramento CLSA Chapter connects you to our profession every day. Here are some of the ways that our Chapter has contributed this year: Youth and Education: Trig Star events, Engineer’s day at Sunrise Mall for Engineers Week, and support for the Sacramento City College surveying program. Professional Workshops: Land Surveying Exam Preparation class, LS Exam Application and LS Exam Appeals seminars. Helping the profession: Installing monuments for the calibration baseline and making the measurements, Lunch for LSIT and LS Candidates and participating in meetings with Gold Country and North Counties Chapter including the August Picnic. At our meetings, we have had some very interesting speakers including: Jim Brainard (REY Engineers, Laser Scanning, See story on Page 3), PPC (case study), Fran Evanisko (BLM, GIS), Vendor Night, Landon Blake (What does your survey say about you?), Tom Taylor (Laser scanning and BIM) and Bill Hofferber (CLSA, President Elect). Laser Scanning

This year we have had

some very engaging

meetings. The speaker

at the November was

a fine way to end the

year. Jim Brainard

(pictured) and Joe

Feyder of REY

Engineers came to

discuss their

experiences of using

laser scanning with a

very receptive crowd.

Given the newness of

the technology, it was

a great opportunity to

discuss the equipment

and the processing

techniques that can

make use of this an

option worth

exploring.

It was interesting to

see the practical and

viable uses as they

shared with us actual

jobs and the issues that

arise in the execution.

There was an

interesting question

and answer period

following the prepared

talk.

Want to know more

about emerging

technology and other

surveying issues?

Come join us for a

meeting!

Application Seminar applications at the Board. It

is the goal to reduce the

need for the Board to

contact applicants for

additional information.

Signing as a reference can

also be difficult to navigate.

Information is also shared

that makes providing a

reference a less stressful

experience.

This year the seminar was

held at Peabody Engineering

Offices. Many thanks to Ross

Peabody and Rich Aviles for

their participation.

The State application for the

LS exam can be a challenge.

This was the idea that

prompted us to start holding

an application seminar.

For the past two years, Ric

Moore, the staff land

surveyor for the Board and

member of our chapter, has

donated part of a Saturday

to aid applicants and

references with questions

regarding experience and

endorsements.

Attendance at the seminar

can help attendee with the

presentation of experience.
