Media Requests-Members of the working media have seating available at courtside. Requests for seats must be made at least 24 hours before all home con-tests. No credentials are needed, though, we do ask that you contact Sports Information Direc-tor Jamie Chagnon by phone or e-mail to ask for courtside seating.

Post-Game Interviews-All players and coaches will be made available for post-game media interviews following a 10-minute cooling down period. Postgame in-terviews will be on-site either, on court or in the locker room. Interviews with visiting institution players or coaches must be set up through visit-ing SID or team represtenative.

Mid-Week Interviews-Mid-week interviews with players and coaches must be arranged through the Randolph College Sports Information Office. The best time to inter-view Coach Nunley is Monday through Friday in the mornings. All mid-week interviews will take place in the office of Coach Nunley.

Tina Hill begins her third year as the Director of Athletics at Randolph College in 2010-2011.

Hill has spent the past 18 years in the field of NCAA Division III athletics, having worked at Cornell College, California Lutheran University, and Eliza-

bethtown College.

Prior to her arrival at Randolph, Hill most recently served as the director of athletics at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, for five years. As the Ram’s first full-time athletics direc-tor she was responsible for the complete administration of the college’s 17 NCAA varsity sports as well as its intramural program.

Before her time at Cornell College, Hill served as the associ-ate director of athletics at California Lutheran University from 1997-2002. During that time, she assisted with the adminis-tration of the university’s 15-sport athletics program. From 1990-1997 Hill worked at Elizabethtown College in Pennsyl-vania. She began her career with the Blue Jays as an intern before eventually serving as the associate director of athletics and as a staff instructor in physical education during her final four years at the college.

Hill received her B.S. in physical education from the Universi-ty of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and her M.S. in sports manage-ment from the University of Richmond. As an undergraduate at Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Hill was a two-time first team all-conference volleyball player.

As the Randolph College Athletics Director, Hill coordinates the daily operations as well as the long-term objectives of the WildCats’13-sport intercollegiate athletics program.

Hill is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators and National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. She has served on various NCAA and conference committees, including a term as the Chair of the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Committee.

HC ALLISON NICHOLS

Allison Nichols begins her first year at the helm of the WildCat women’s basketball program. A Lynch-

burg, Virginia native, Nichols has coached at both the Division I and II levels following a brief stint in

the high school ranks. She served as the assistant women’s basketball coach at Augusta State Univer-

sity (Augusta, Georgia) from 2006-2008 where she was responsible for assisting in all aspects of the

women’s basketball program.

At Augusta State, Nichols helped lead the squad to a 38-20 record over two years, including a South

Atlantic Region top three finish, Peach Belt Conference regular season co-championship, and NCAA

Tournament berth in 2008.

Prior to Augusta State, Nichols served as assistant varsity girls basketball coach for Loudoun County High School. During her two years at

Loudoun County, the team was named Dulles District and Region II Champions, while earning a trip to the Virginia State Final Four, finish-

ing 29-2 in the 2005-2006 season.

In 2008, Nichols joined East Carolina University’s women’s basket-

ball program, serving as Director of Basketball Operations. At East

Carolina, Nichols was responsible for all team travel, film exchange,

recruiting, marketing and promotions, and community service

events. She helped coach the Pirates to a 22-10 overall mark and a

trip to the NCAA WNIT Tournament during her last season there.

“It is an honor for me to be back in the ODAC and with an up and

coming school like Randolph College,” said Nichols. “I believe that

with a lot of hard work, dedication and leadership, this program can

blossom into one that regularly excels in this difficult contest. I want

to thank the College for giving me this opportunity.”

Nichols is no stranger to the Lynchburg area or the Old Dominion

Athletic Conference, having played at Brookville High School while

earning her degree at nearby Bridgewater College where she was

part of a team that won two regular season conference titles and

had a 76-32 overall record. She later earned her Masters of Educa-

tion at Augusta State in Kinesiology and Health Science.

Renee Guilliams Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach

Assistant Coach Renee Guilliams begins her first season on the bench for the WildCats in 2010-11. Guilliams comes to the College after a successful four-year career at Division II Francis Marion University in Florence, SC.

While at FMU, she was a two-year starter and a team-captain in 2007-08. She led her team to a Peach Belt Conference Championship in 07-08, as well as an NCAA berth that same year. Guilliams paced the Patriots in threes made in 05-06 and 06-07, helping her squad to the highest points per game (89.3) in all of NCAA women’s basketball in 07-08.

Guilliams has served as the assistant coach at Craig County over the past two seasons and also conducted and led YMCA basketball clinics during that span. In 2008-09, she was the head mentor of the U-16 Botetourt

Outlaws/Roanoke Stars AUU women’s basketball squad.

aKelsey Cline Student Manager

Kelsey Cline begins her first year as a student manager for the women’s basketball team. Cline assists the coaching staff during practice by helping with day-to-day operational duties, also assisting during games by filming or keeping the scorebook. A standout for the Randolph women’s soccer team, Cline started every game this fall for the WildCats on the pitch.

09-10 SEASON RECAP

Randolph College saw ups and downs in 2009-10, though senior leadership helped the

squad forge through a 3-21 season. Two players, guard Katie Rechnitzer and post Lindsay Cross,

joined the respected 1,000 point squad at the College. Randolph picked up a win at North Caro-

lina Wesleyan College early on in the season and swept the season series with Hollins University.

Randolph also had near wins at Virginia Wesleyan College, at home against eventual Old Dominion

Athletic Conference Tournament champion Washington & Lee University and at home against

Emory & Henry College.

The scoring load fell mostly on the shoulders of Rechnitzer and Cross. Rechnitzer ’10, who

is the younger sister of former WildCat standout and fellow 1,000 point scorer Sarah Rechnitzer

’07, posted 16.0 points a game for Randolph, finishing with a team-high 41 three pointers. Katie

Rechnitzer posted eight games of 20 points or more and failed to reach double-digits only twice,

when she scored nine points in both of those ball games. Katie Rechnitzer finished with a shooting

percentage of 40 percent, totaling 385 points on the season.

Cross continued to be a supporting scorer to Rechnitzer, and her 14.3 points per game

average was among the best scoring averages

in the ODAC. She also was among the league

leaders in rebounding as well and posted 11 double-doubles on the season, including a 26

point, 13 rebound contest against Emory & Henry College. She finished her Randolph College

career with 1,124 points..

Also coming on as a sophomore was sharp shooter Lauren French, who played just around

31 minutes a game for Randolph and averaged 9.0 points per game while leading the Old

Dominion Athletic Conference in three-point shooting percentage with a .438 clip from down-

town. French played in all 24 games, and started all but one of those contests. She also hit on

86 percent of her free throws, hitting 31 of 36 from the line.

Junior Megan Carney continued to play the role of glue person, doing a little bit of every-

thing. Carney finished with 8.3 points per game, 4.5 boards and lead the team in blocks, while

being among the top three in steals, assists and threes made. Carney posted a season-high of

14 points against Roanoke College. She was third on the team with 31 minutes a game, as she

started and played in all 24 games for Randolph.

Seniors Jamie Steigerwald and Shar Plows

provided minutes for the WildCats, each standing

out as a dual sport athlete. Steigerwald played in 18 games, starting 10 of those, averaging 2.5 points

and 2.9 rebounds a game. Junior Rebecca Folden averaged 16 minutes a game for Randolph and will

look to become a leader as a senior in 2010-11. First-year Tavlyn Brown also played 22.5 minutes a

game for the WildCats, averaging just over two points per game. Guard depth was affected early on

in the season when prize recruit Olivia Johnson was shelved for the season with a knee injury, though

her return in 2010-11 will help solidify the rear guard group.

Three players from 2009-10 team will return in 10-11, and the WildCats will look to other

players, some new and some veterans, to step up and take over as the next wave of Randolph Col-

lege women’s basketball starts.


ODAC CONFERENCE

Celebrating its 35th year of operations, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) is one of the nation's largest Division III conferences. The 14-member ODAC, including one associate member, stands as the second-largest multi-sport NCAA Division III conference in the country. The league was formed on May 18, 1975 as the Virginia College Conference and began operations in September of 1976. (The name chane to Old Do-minion Athletic Conference became effective January 1, 1976). Charter members were eight colleges located in the state of Virginia: Bridgewater College, Eastern Mennonite College, Emory & Henry College, Hampden-Sydney College, Lynchburg College, Randolph-Macon College, Roanoke College, and Washington and Lee University. From its initial year of operation through the 1981-82 academic year, the ODAC sponsored competition in 10 men's varsity sports, including football, soccer, and cross country in the fall; basketball, wrestling, and indoor track and field in the winter; and baseball, golf, tennis, and outdoor track and field in the spring. Women's sports were added prior to the 1982-83 school year. Today, the ODAC has grown to sponsor championships in 22 sports (10 men and 12 women) and houses nine full-time coeducational institutions with three single-gender schools making up the current 13 full-time members. The conference expanded in the late 1980s, early 1990s and most recently in 1999. Virginia Wesleyan became the 13th member of the conference in 1988 and began full-scale competition in the league in the 1989-90 academic year. Guilford College, voted into the conference in the spring of 1990, began competing for conference championships in the 1991-92 season. The Catholic University of America (DC) was accepted for associate membership in football on January 12, 1999, and just recently Shenandoah University accepted an invitation to join the ODAC ful-time in 2012-13. Over the past 17 years the conference and the City of Salem, Va., have gained national attention through hosting five NCAA Division III championships in football, men's basketball, softball, baseball, women's lacrosse, and volleyball. The growing list of titles passed out in Salem began in the fall of 1993 with the DIII Football Championship. Through the 2009-10 academic year, the conference and city have hosted 49 NCAA Division III Championships since the '93 Stagg Bowl. This year, the two will serve as hosts to the DIII football, men's basketball and softball championships.Governance:The Conference is governed by a 13-member Presidential body consisting of all of the full-time members' CEOs. Dr. Billy Greer of Virginia Wesleyan is the chair of the ODAC Presidents' Coun-cil. In addition to presidential leadership, the conference's day-to-day operations are super-vised by its Board of Directors, which consists of all conference member Directors of Athletics. RANDOLPH FACILITIES

Randolph Tennis Courts

WildCat StadiumThis state-of-the-art facility was completed in 2009 and plays host to the men’s and women’s soccer and lacrosse teams. WildCat Stadium features a FieldTurf surface which plays like grass but can withstand the pounding of sporting events and intramural contests year round. The field is surrounded by a new age eight lane track which can be used for walking or training purposes. The Stadium also has a scoreboard and flag court across from the seating areas, which are elevated for a superb view of the action. Bathrooms are located atop the plaza adjacent to the press box, which features wireless internet. WildCat Stadium also boasts one of the prettiest places to play in the league, with trees sur-rounding the north and west sides of the Stadium.

The Randolph Tennis Courts feature eight hard surface courts, which are tucked between PER and WildCat Stadium. Benches are next to each court for rest between sets, while premiere seating is available atop the hill next to the courts, allowing spectators a birds-eye view of all the action.

The Physical Education and Recreation Building (PER) is one of the loudest gyms in the ODAC. PER plays host to the Randolph men’s and women’s basketball teams, along with the volleyball team in the fall. PER has elevated seating, where fans can see all the action unfold. Weight room and athletic training facilities, along with a six-lane swimming pool and athletic administration offices are also located in the facility.


10-11 SEASON PREVIEW The 2010-11 version of the Randolph College women’s basketball will be completely different than last

year’s team that went 3-21 and 2-18 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). First-year head coach Allison Nichols

returns to the ODAC after her successful career at Bridgewater College, and is excited about the prospects of working in the

league and at Randolph.

“I’m really excited to be here this year, there’s a great atmosphere on campus,” said Nichols. “It’s a

great place to be. So far I’ve been really pleased with the work ethic of the team and everybody is progressing in the right

direction.”

The WildCats come into this season with only two returning players from last year’s squad, as Randolph

graduated two 1,000 point scorers in Katie Rechnitzer and Lindsay Cross. Rechnitzer averaged 16 points a game last season

and Cross was right behind with 14.8 points per contest. Those two players returning, senior R ebecca Folden (Bothell, WA/

Cascade) and junior Lauren French (Blairs, VA/Chatham) , both played big roles for the team last year and will do the same

this year.

“We have two solid returners that have been great leaders, they’ve really stepped up,” said Nichols.

“They’ve tried to share some of their experiences as far as competing at the collegiate level and I think they’ve done a great

job thus far and I look for them to continue that throughout the season.”

French started all but one game last season, averaging nearly 31 minutes a game while shooting 44

percent from downtown. She finished with an average of nine points per game, grabbing about three boards as well. Folden

returns as a gritty, vocal leader after playing in all 24 games last season. She grabbed 36 rebounds on the season, but is very

excited about the newcomers the WildCats will have this season.

“This year is really different than last year, having so many first-years,” said Folden. “It’s fun to get to be there with them as they learn the new systems. It’s just a lot of

fun to see them improve daily and already get better in the short time we’ve been practicing. I’m excited to see what they can do this season.”

A newcomer to the floor this season that was here on campus last season is sophomore guard Olivia Johnson (Monroe, NC/Union Academy) . A very strong talent,

Johnson is coming off knee surgery, but has shown very well in the backcourt and will be someone the WildCats depend on this season. “It’s been a whole year, doing rehab, getting

better, just picking up where I left off,” said Johnson. “It’s been a big transition, getting back into basketball mode after being out a year.”

In the backcourt this season, the WildCats will very deep. In addition to French, Folden, and Johnson, first-years Brandie Witt (Bedford, VA/Liberty) and Courtney Boucha-

rd (Fairfax, VA/WT Woodson) will make an immediate impact.

Witt is a very intelligent, athletic point guard who excels at getting into the lane and making plays for herself and her teammates. Bouchard is a strong shooter and will be

looked upon to stretch the defense outside this season.

“I think Brandie Witt, one of our first years, is really going to step up and fill a big role,” said Nichols. “Courtney has made

great strides from day one until yesterday; she’s really come along way.” Another player to watch for will be Liz Tilton (Wading River,

NY/Riverhead) , a first-year the coaching staff has said is strong defensively and will get playing time for the WildCats.

Up front, Randolph will be completely new though the coaching staff is optimistic about the progress the post players have

shown. Shondria Hamlett (Bedford, VA/Rustburg) , a transfer from Bridgewater, is a very physical, tough post player who can score

on either side of the basket. Forward Sam Sublett (Bedford, VA/Staunton River) returns to the floor after taking her first year off last

season, and has already shown a nice jumper and athleticism up front.

First-year Morgan Thompson (Sandy Hook, VA/Goochland) is a tall and long post player who should help with rebound-

ing and defensively in the post. “I’ve been pleased with Morgan’s work ethic and positive attitude throughout practice so far. She will

definitely fill a role for us this season, and it’s nice to have some depth up front,” said head coach Allison Nichols.

The WildCats’ 2010-11 schedule will include tough non-conference games with Bennett College, Peace College and

Meredith College as well as taking part in the Gettysburg College Tournament on January 2 and 3. The tournament will feature host

Gettysburg, as well as Scranton College and St. Mary’s (MD) College.

The Old Dominion Athletic Conference schedule gets started early for the WildCats. The 20 game conference slate begins

with a road game at Virginia Wesleyan College Nov. 23 at 6 p.m. The first home league contest for the WildCats comes December 1

against Hollins University at 7 p.m. in PER.

“The ODAC is a great conference, and it’s tough top to bottom,” said Nichols. “It doesn’t matter if you play the first place

team or the last place team, you know you’re going have a tough game night in and night out, so I’m excited to be back in the ODAC. “

Nichols’s Take on Folden: “Becca is a solid defender for us and we are really look-ing for

her to be more of an offensive threat this year. 1,000 POINT CLUB

1,000 Point Club

1,000 points. Four digits, next to your name in the record books means

so much to so many people. The 1,000 Point Club in women’s basketball at

Randolph College (formally Randolph-Macon Woman’s College) grew by two

last season, as Katie Rechnitzer and Lindsay Cross joined the distinguished

group of eight already part of this special society.

The WildCats 1,000 Point Club was christened back in 1976, when Sylvia

Bailey finished her brilliant four-year career with 1,013 points. Bailey, who

now works as a medical and health care consultant in Colorado, embodied

the collegiate spirit by competing in lacrosse and by holding a spot on the

Skellar Board.

Bailey paved the way for Marta Ruggles, who finished her career in 1982

with 1,367 career points, which was the most at the College for more than 18

years. Jennifer Baptist became the elite group’s next member, posting 1,106

points during her WildCat tenure, which finished up in 1998.

The next two players to join the group were the first set of teammates to join

the 1,000 club. Tara Carleton and Kai Felton, each 2000 graduates, finished

their careers with 2,167 and 1,147 points, respectively.

Carleton holds the school record for points in a career and currently works in

the Department of Homeland Security. Felton stayed in the collegiate bas-

ketball field, and now the assistant coach at Division I University of Oregon in

Eugene, OR.

Amy Dameron, who competed in women’s soccer as well, finished with 1,100

points in her career to become the sixth member of the group in 2004. Meg-o

Stensrud and Sara Rechnitzer joined the group in back-to-back years in 2006

and 2007. Stensrud finished with 1,483 points, second all-time on the College’s

points list. Rechnitzer scored her 1,000th point in her final game in 2007, be-

coming the eighth member in history.

Last season, the WildCats added two players to the 1,000 club, as Katie

Rechnitzer etched her name in history with 1,331 career points, while fellow

2010 graduate Lindsay Cross netted 1,124 points. This exclusive group of

players each have a game-ball in the trophy case to memorialize their ac-

complishments.

Katie Rechnitzer, who still follows the team, has a special bond with

another one of the members of the group as her sister, Sara, is among the

10.

“It means a lot to be able to say that I am part of a very small group of

women at R-MWC who were all able to surpass such a milestone in the sport

of basketball,” said Katie. “It means even more to me since I can share this

experience with my older sister, Sara. Having my sister right by side in such

a category has been nothing but a joy for the both of us.”

While all of these players had great careers on the court, it was amazing

that all of them took leadership roles into other areas on campus and their

careers. Baptist works as a Truancy Case Manager after majoring in sociol-

ogy and anthropology at R-MWC, while Stensrud was a member of the

executive board for three years at R-MWC and was Co-President of the ETA

Spirit Group. Katie, who works for Habitat for Humanity now, was adamant

about the impact her experiences at the College had on her.

“My experiences on and off the court at R-MWC, no doubt, shaped who I am today,” she said. “I build houses

everyday and have to use the leadership skills I acquired through leading my college team on and off the court for

the past four years. I, for sure ,would not know how to lead people if it weren’t for participating on the R-MWC

basketball team.”

Four digits. The number 1,000. Just a number to some, but to these 10 women a number that will bond them for-

ever.

Our Proud HistoryRandolph College was founded 119 years ago as Randolph-Macon Woman’s College.

•Founded March 10, 1891; first class had 36 students and 12 professors •Was the first women’s college south of Washington D.C. to receive a Phi Beta Kappa charter •Most famous alumna is novelist and activist Pearl S. Buck ’14, winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize for Literature •In 2007, the school changed its name to Randolph College and welcomed men into the campus community.

Our Students and FacultyRandolph’s students come from 46 states and more than 30 countries. The student body

comprises 12% international students and 22% domestic students of color.

Randolph students are high achievers, with the average SAT scores between 1028 and 1238 and GPAs between 3.2 and 3.7; 28% were in the top 10% of their class, 60% were in the top 25% and 80% were in the top 50%.

92% full-time faculty members hold the highest possible degree in their field. Randolph offers a rigorous liberal arts curriculum in small classes taught by engaged, caring professors, never a graduate student. Recently, Randolph College’s professors ranked in the top 20 in the nation in the latest edition of The Princeton Review’s popular guidebook, The Best 373 Colleges: 2011 Edition. The college was also named one of the nation’s best institutions for undergraduate education. Only about 15 percent of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges and two Canadian colleges were included in the 2011 edition.

CITY OF LYNCHBURGLynchburg is a scenic city located near the eastern foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia. The area has an exten-sive history beginning with its founding on the James River in the 1760’s by John Lynch as “Lynch’s Ferry.” Today the city has an urban population of over 96,000, including the suburbs of Madison Heights, Timberlake, and Forest. Lynchburg’s economy is based on the many high-tech manufac-turing companies located here including cellular communications, nuclear energy, and machinery. This manufacturing and research orientation represents a shift from the mill-based economy of the past, which included foundries, shoes, and textiles. Education is well-represented with five area private colleges and a public com-munity college. Health care includes two hospitals, one of which, Lynchburg General, has been recently renovated into a state-of-the-art facility for the next century. Lynchburg is sometimes referred to as “A City Unto Itself”, in part due to geographic and cultural isolation, but mostly in reference to the city’s historical avoidance of State and Federal entanglements. The phrase was the title of a history book by columnist Darrell Laurant.

Over 40 sites in Lynchburg are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Lynchburg is the home of Central Virginia Community College, Liberty University, Lynchburg College, Randolph College, and Virginia University of Lynchburg. The Lynchburg MSA also includes Sweet Briar College.

Lynchburg boasts examples of Italian Renaissance, Federal, Georgian, Neo-Classical, Neo-Gothic, Romanesque, Jeffersonian, Queen Anne, Second Empire, Colonial, and Art Deco styles. A number of sites and neighborhoods are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Primary roadways include U.S. Route 29, U.S. Route 501, U.S. Route 221, running north-south, and U.S. Highway 460, running east-west. While not served by an interstate, much of Route 29 has been upgraded to interstate standards and significant improve-ments have been made to Highway 460.

Amtrak’s Crescent and Northeast Regional trains connect Lynchburg with the cities of New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Charlotte, Atlanta, Birmingham and New Orleans. Lynchburg became the new southern terminus for the Northeast Regional in October 2009. Amtrak’s passen-

ger terminal in Lynchburg is located in the track level ground floor of Kemper Street Station.Lynchburg Regional Airport provides service by US Airways Express to Charlotte. In recent months air travel has increased with 7,400 passengers flying in and out of the airport in April 2009—an increase of 97%. With this jump in passengers, flights have been added and the possibility of more carriers and destinations has become more likely.Attractions include Lynchburg Hillcats, Peaks of Otter, Crabtree Falls, Poplar Forest, and Phase 2 Dining & Entertainment.
