her master’s degree at U of T, she was a member of the 1997 and 1998

women’s CIS track and field championship teams.

Mallon is an NCI-certified level four middle distance coach who has

guided athletes to numerous OFSAA, OUA, CIS and national champion-

ship medals. Mallon currently coaches Tamara Jewett, a two-time national

and 2008 world junior track and field championships, where she placed in

the top eight in the 3000m.

Mallon has also coached Jose Carvalho, who was the OUA male track athlete of the meet in 2005, a 2005 Canada

Games team member and silver medalist in the 1000m at the 2006 CIS track championships in Saskatoon. Paula

McLaughlin, a former Varsity Blue, represented Canada at the 2005 Francophone Games in Niger, Africa. While

still a student at U of T, McLaughlin broke the 15-year-old school record in the 600m on her way to making the

CIS top 10 all-time list in her event.

Mallon’s international experience includes coaching the 2003 World University Games team in Daegu, South Ko-

rea, the 2005 Pan Am junior track championships in Windsor and this year’s 2009 Pan Am junior championships

2009 OUA ChampionshipsMegan Brown earned the women’s individual title and was named the 2009 most valuable runner at the OUA cross country championships on Satur-day, October 31 in St. Catharines, Ont.

Brown (Guelph, Ont.) finished the 5km race in a time of 17:07, 34 seconds ahead of silver medal-ist and teammate Erin McClure (Waterloo, Ont.). This is the third time in four years that Brown has won this race, as she also finished first in 2008 and 2006. Rachel Cliff of the Guelph Gry-phons placed third in a time of 17:47.

Katie Housley (Burlington, Ont.) as well as Toronto natives Alex Diagacamo and Charlotte Aust also competed as the Blues women garnered a sixth-place overall team finish.

The U of T men’s team placed fourth overall on the day. Fourth-year veteran Michael Del Monte (Guelph, Ont.) led the Varsity Blues, finishing the 10km run in ninth place with a time of 31:12.

Stephen Douglas (Pictou, N.S.) was the next U of T runner to cross the finish line. Douglas ran the race in 31:53, good for a 20th individual finish.

Antun Pavelic (Toronto), Andrew Nicholl (Toronto) and Tyler Pettes (Aurora, Ont.) also ran for the Blues, finishing in 31st, 34th and 36th, respectively.

Brown and McClure were recognized as OUA first team all-stars, while Del Monte earned second team status.

The Varsity Blues return to action on Saturday, November 14 as they head to Kingston, Ont. for the 2009 CIS cross country cham-pionships hosted by the Queen’s Gaels.
