China International Industry Fair (CIIF in brief) is jointly organized by
National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Commerce,
Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Science and
Technology, Ministry of Education, Chinese Academy of Science, Chinese
Academy of Engineering, China Council for the Promotion of International
Trade and Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, co-organized by
China Machinery Industry Federation and managed by Shanghai World
Expo (Group) Co., Ltd. Since 1999, when the first session was found, CIIF
has never stopped innovating itself and upgrading the level of exhibitors
and the quality of exhibits. Now, CIIF has won much more focus, and
become the most influential brand fair in China manufacturing industry.
CIIF 2009, the 11th session, themed “Scientific Innovation and Equipment Manufacturing Revitalization”, was held at Shanghai
New International Expo Centre from Nov.3-7. 1869 exhibitors home and abroad have participated CIIF 2009, who covered general
exhibition space of 126,500sqm, of which over 30% were from oversea. More than 70 forums and conferences were held
simultaneously, and the general amount of transactions on scene was 1.744 billion RMB.
CIIF 2009 is composed of seven specialized shows, of which the theme and scale of are indicated as below:

Scientific & Technological Innovation Show ——19,000 m²
Energy Show——5,750 m²

Analysis on Exhibitor
1. Overview Totally 1869 exhibitors have participated CIIF2009. Of all the show area, oversea exhibitors accounted for 30.1%, domestic
(Shanghai excluded) exhibitors 43.3%, Shanghai local exhibitors 26.6% (Refer table 1 for details). There were 939 Chinese exhibitors (Shanghai excluded) coming from 25 provinces or autonomous regions and 5 cities with
independent planning, including Shougang Group, Baosteel, China Telecom, China Mobile, Qier Machine Tool, Qinchuan Machine Tool, Wuhan Heavy Duty Machine Tool, Spark Machine Tool , Kaida Machine Tool,Yangli Group, World Precise Machinery, Hanchuan Machine Tool, Beijing Institute of electro-machining, Han’s Laser, Chutian Laser, Beijing Automobile Works, CECIC, Huayi Group, HollySys, EVOC, SoftLink, Leyard, Tianwei Group, Tianshui 213 Electrical Apparatus Company, Shining Metal, etc. Number of exhibitors from Shanghai was 436, including Shanghai Machine Tool, Terna, Shanghai Tunnel, Shanghai Electric, Shanghai Power Equipment, Nader, Jiena Complete Electric, SAIC, Gmol, Data Solution, Shanghai Sanxin, Sansi, Guanglian, Opto electric, Epilight. Shanghai electronics development holding group, Rainbow, Roled Opto, etc.
There were 494 oversea exhibitors coming from 18 countries and regions, including ABB, SIEMENS, FANUC, Phoenix, Fuji Electric, Beckhoff, Rittal, Turck, Lenze, Pepperl-Fuchs, Honeywell, BALDOR, Staubli, ESA, ema, Weidmuller, Elco, Schmershal, Pilz, Autonics, Advantech, MAZAK, Unity-prima, Bystronic, Spinner, Mitsubish, Farleylaserlab, Flow UHP waterjet, Transcosmos, STMicroelectronics, Tailift, Muratr, Nilfisk, Polylink, CREE, Enfis, Optiled, Brother, Plus, etc.

1.2 Comparison of Exhibitor No. & Standard Booth No. of the last 3 years
It can be referred from the Chart 1 that the number of exhibitor and booth keeps increasing during
the last three years, which shows the great potential of CIIF’s development. The average booth area
was 22.86sqm in 2007, 24.84sqm in 2008 and 25.47sqm in 2009, which shows the great growth trend
of average booth area, and exhibitors with raw space increased in this period. In another word,
exhibitors give more attention on CIIF and the quality of stand is higher and higher.

2. Analysis on Oversea Exhibitors Under the circumstances of economy crisis, CIIF 2009 not only conquered various difficulties, but also won
opportunities. The show area, the number of exhibitor, and the quality of the fair reached a higher level. Of the total show area, the overseas exhibitors shared over 30%. 1596 booths were occupied by 494 overseas exhibitors from 18 countries/regions, including USA, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Japan, Czech, Korea, Singapore, Denmark, Australia, etc.
2.1 The comparison of exhibitor no. and standard booth no. of the last three years
Chart 4 indicated the No. of overseas exhibitor and booth, which shows the upgrading attention of abroad manufacturing corporations to CIIF. The annually increasing rate of the Number of overseas exhibitor: is 25.5% for 2007-2008 and 4.4% for 2008-2009. The annually increasing rate of the average area of overseas booth is 8.5% for 2007-2008 and 4% for 2008-2009. The two raising rate is higher than that of CIIF average level. Economic crisis seriously attacked these companies, and the marketing budget of them plunged, but more abroad exhibitors attended CIIF, which shows their more attraction on domestic market and the upgrading internationalization of CIIF on the other hand.

2.2 Analysis on Overseas Exhibitor, by Continent

The chart 5 & 6 implied that Asian
exhibitors accounted the majority part,
58.77%. Of all oversea sourcing, the
ones from Europe shared almost 30%.
The top two exhibitor sources are both
from the manufacturing developed
region, for example, Japan from Asia
ranked 1 and Germany from Europe
ranked 2, respectively. On the other
hand, American corporations also took
a part of nearly 10% (9.94% exactly).

3. Analysis on Domestic Exhibitor
There are 1375 Chinese exhibitors (Shanghai excluded) coming from 25 provinces /autonomous regions and
5 cities with independent planning occupied 3706 booths in CIIF 2009. The No. of exhibitor and booth increased
2.4% and 6.5% respectively, based on 2008 data. 436 local exhibitors occupied 1559 booths, shared 23.3% and
29.4% respectively of total. 939 domestic exhibitors (Shanghai excluded) occupied 2147 booths, accounted
50.3% and 40.5% respectively of total.

The chart shows us that the No.
of domestic exhibitor kept stable in
the last three years, while the total
standard booth no. raised much, 12%
for 2008 and 6.5% for 2009. It can
be inferred that the show area per
booth quickly increased, which
means the CIIF earn more input from
exhibitors to give a higher quality of
display.

4. Feedback from Exhibitors
Long Xingyuan, Chairman of board committee of Qinchuan Machine Tool Group: We sold 13 Wheel Gear Grinding

CIIF 2009 has attracted 118,325 visitors from 73 countries or regions and 30 domestic provinces and cities with independent planning, while 98,256 of them are professionals.

It is clearly that the visitors from manufactures accounted majority. The ones from research institutes, agents, and systems integrators totally shared over 30% of all visitors, which shows the high correlation to CIIF themes.

Conference & Forum
74 conferences & forums were held during CIIF 2009, combined with
three parts, which are development forum, technology forum and industry
forum. As an enormously important activity of CIIF 2009, these forums
focused on hot and difficult issues, such as how to conquer the crisis, face the
restrict of energy, resources and environment and challenge of globalization
and multipolarity, etc
in the industry, and
covered many
advanced and
essential contents. Chinese and foreign governmental officials, experts,
scholars, insiders
and entrepreneurs
will be invited to
express insights and
conduct discussions.
The Forum will be characterized by frontiers, visions, professionalism and
technicality so as to enhance its social attraction. ‘The 2nd China International
Energy Conservation and Environment Protection Forum’, ‘2009Advancing
Auto Manufacturing Technology Seminar’, ‘The 5th CIIF ·MM·China
Automation Days 2009’ and ‘2009 Elite Forum on Sino-Japanese Economy’ etc. received excellent feedback, the audience expressed that they would go on attend the forums and CIIF.

Awards As one major activity, four kinds of exhibit awards of CIIF 2009 were
selected, which were gold, silver, copper and innovation awards. Totally 39
exhibits shared these awards, 4 for gold, 9 for silver, 14 for copper and 12 for
innovation. 3MW Offshore Wind Turbine from Sinovel Wind Co., Ltd., 450t
Electric Slag Remelting from Shanghai Heavy Machinery Plant Co. Ltd., Force
Control based robotic assembly application product from ABB Engineering Co.
Ltd. SH, and Mega-structure Diagnostic and Prognostic System from The Hong
Kong Polytechnic University won the gold award. These exhibits reflected the
national strategies, approved the “golden 10 years” of China Manufacturing, and
show the application of Hi-tech face to the future. Awarded exhibits not only were upgraded from “made in China” to ‘innovated in
China’, but also show the
world class level of modern
industry and the
achievements of China
advanced manufacturing. As
a service platform for
manufacturers and clients,
the award system of CIIF will
provide more opportunities for
exhibits via award system. We sincerely hope you bring the higher level exhibits.
