• A Colonel Win Would …… Give EKU its fi rst road non-conference victory since defeating Liberty on Nov. 2, 2002.… Mean Eastern opens the season 1-0 for the fi rst time since 2000.… Give the Colonels their fi rst win over an NCAA FBS school since defeating Louis-ville in 1985.… Make EKU’s all-time record 542-333-38.

• Colonels Ranked in Preseason PollEastern Kentucky was one of two OVC teams to earn a ranking in the initial Sports Network NCAA Division I FCS poll. The Colonels were placed 24th, three spots below Jacksonville State.

• Road WarriorsIncluding Thursday night’s game at Indiana, Eastern has opened its football schedule on the road eight times in the previous nine sea-sons. In 2005, the Colonels hosted eventual FCS national champ Appalachian State in the opening game.

• Non-Conference Road StrugglesEastern Kentucky has dropped 14 consecu-tive road non-conference games dating back to a 35-28 overtime victory at Liberty on Nov. 2, 2002.

• Hardman Named Preseason All-AmericanSenior off ensive lineman Derek Hardman was one of six OVC players to be named to the Sports Network preseason All-American team. Hardman, a 2008 fi rst team All-OVC pick, has started 35 consecutive games on the off ensive line. He played right tackle for two years before moving to left tackle in 2008.

• Back to QuarterbackJunior Cody Watt s is expected to start under center against Indiana. Watt s was recruited as a quarterback, but has been used as a wide receiver and kick returner during his time at EKU. Last year, he led the team with fi ve touchdown receptions. Watt s did see some action at quarterback in 2008, mainly against Tennessee Tech on Oct. 4 when he directed three scoring drives. Watt s fi nished 6-for-7 for 86 yards and one touchdown through the air while rushing for 62 yards on seven carries as well.

• Davis and Evans Excel on TrackWide receiver Shannon Davis and defensive back Andre Evans participated on the EKU track team in the spring and did not disap-point. Davis won the OVC 400-meter sprint while Evans took home medal honors in the 110-meter hurdles.

• Turnovers Tell the TaleIn 2008, Eastern Kentucky tied for sixth among all 118 Division I FCS programs in turnover margin at +14. The Colonels forced fi ve turnovers in victories over Jacksonville State and UT Martin last year.

• Astonishing RunBy rolling through the OVC in 2008, Eastern Kentucky earned the program’s 31st con-secutive winning season. The Colonels have posted double-digit wins during nine of those seasons. EKU, which has competed in the FCS playoff s a nation’s best 19 times, has not had a losing season since 1972, but went 5-5 in 1977.

• Colonels Picked First in OVC Preseason PollIn a balanced vote that saw fi ve of the eight eligible teams receive at least one fi rst-place vote, two-time defending champion Eastern Kentucky was picked as the 2009 OVC pre-season football favorite. EKU was picked fi rst in the preseason poll for the 17th time since 1979.

• A New Look for the ColonelsThe football team will unveil new football jerseys and helmets this year. Eastern will wear Russell maroon tops and white pants for home games and white tops and ma-roon pants for road tilts. The 2009 helmet logo will feature an ‘E’ instead of ‘EKU.’ The Colonels have worn some form of ‘EKU’ on their helmets since 1971.
