Iwrite this documentary for my grandchildren and their grandchildren to tell them the stories about my family. The events told here shadow the history of Montana. The book is a collection of short stories. Enjoy them one at a time or an era at a reading. Life seems to be comprised of expe-riences and these make us who we are. Betty Jo Racki and I, Jesse Malone, Jr., married in 1963 joining two families that have history in at least two centuries. Her ancestors were coal mine owners and homesteaders and her family claims relationship to Captain Kidd, the pirate. My ancestors date to the Hudson Bay Company of the early 1800’s, the gold rush in Montana, mining, cattle ranching, and homesteading. A reader may sense sad times, good times, love and loss. This is a man’s book with stories about Indians, fur trading, the gold fields, the depression years and the war years, raising cattle, irrigating, and putting up hay. Relive fire, flood, hail storm and blizzard. The history and daily operations of the Flying U Ranch near Choteau, Montana, are told in detail.
The photograph on the front cover shows the Rocky Mountain Front west of Choteau, Montana.
