IWJ 2009 Annual Report

2009 was a tough time.

Tough times for unemployed workers, with 10 percent “official” unemployment.

Tough times for families as thousands lost homes due to bankers’ gambling.

Tough times for immigrant workers as misguided anti-immigrant forces blamed immigrants for the nation’s economic woes.

Tough times for workers whose employers brazenly stole wages that should have been paid them.

But tough times brought tough love.

Interfaith Worker Justice and its affiliated religious leaders and allies stepped up to the plate to expand and deepen the work, even in the midst of challenges.

Tough love to congregations, urging them step up to the plate and help unemployed workers. Interfaith Worker Justice prepared and distributed a congregational toolkit for unemployment workers.

Tough love to congressional leaders urging them to reign in bankers’ gambling and focus on putting Americans back to work.

Tough love to communities or employers that refused to welcome immigrants.

Tough love to employers who stole work-ers wages.

Interfaith Worker Justice thanks all its supporters who, despite the tough finan-cial climate, shared their love with the organization through financial support and in-kind giving.

We would not have made it through those tough times without your tough love.
