    Fellow Jaycees,

Accept my warmest greetings from the beautiful city of Buea, Cameroon.

I am very pleased to extend my heart felt New Year wishes to you all.

I equally wish to use this solemn opportunity, to remind you about the priority of our mandate, to work collectively in order to promote the ideas and values of JCI in Africa and Middle East. Namely:

Effective Membership Growth The amelioration of the fi nancial situations of our Area NOMs The fi ght against Climate Change. An outstanding Yamoussoukro, Cote dIvoire, Conference. A memorable Hammamet, Tunisia World Congress

Despite the fact that our countries have a huge potential of economic growth, development processes are relatively slow compared to other parts of the world. Yet, the expectations of thousands of young people are more and more pressing.

In order to succeed in these challenges and developmental issues, we should take advantage of the human resources available in our midst, which are considerably rich and exploit it to yield profi t in our communities. Yes, we do not only believe that earths great treasure lies in human personality, but it remains the real source of prosperity.

Thus, Yamoussoukro-Cote dIvoire, scheduled for 20th-23rd May 2009 for our conference, will bring together more than 900 Young Leaders and Entrepreneurs from all African countries, Middle East and the rest of the world. The World Congress which has been scheduled for the 16th - 21st November 2009, Hammamet Tunisia, will assemble over 5000 delegates from all over the world.

These meetings will enable us to develop not only ideas and talents, but also to build networks, and create true friendship that will have positive impact in our communities.

At a time when the world is in a serious fi nancial crisis that can lead us to debunk globalization, cultural isolationism and protectionism, we, members of JCI prominent in our ideas and values, must seize these opportunities offered to us to engage in positive change just as our creed: The brotherhood of man transcend the sovereignty of nations. In effect, our values and principles, as old as sixty, are more relevant to the current challenges faced by our generation.

I hereby invite all young active citizens that you are, to support all the activities which will reinforce the capacity of our members and develop our area.

JCI provides us through our different international meetings (AMDEC, Yamoussoukro and Hammamet...) the ideal platform which will help us to create positive changes in our societies.

Lets seize this opportunity offered to us by this E-Newsletter to address these challenges by being part of the solution.

I wish you a happy and productive 2009.

    Jayceely yours,

Roland KWEMAINChairman, 2009 JCI Africa and Middle East Conference, Yamoussoukro-Cote dIvoire.2009 JCI Executive Vice President

  • Dear friends,

It is indeed an honour for me to be elected to serve our beautiful organization as Vice President in 20009 and we must now face the task before us.

The year is already growing old and time waits for no one, I mean no one. And we have to accomplish these tasks if we are to make our organization a truly global organization of active citizens. Remember, whatever the mind can conceive and believe, that it can also achieve.

Little wonder therefore, that 2009 World President Jun Sup Shin chose the theme; GLOBAL IMPACT through LOCAL ACTION (GILA). This is indeed is a call to action and I dare add that 2009 is a year of More Acton Less Talk.

As you may already be aware, the SPC recommended and GA ratifi ed an increase to 300,000 members by 2013, increase in average local organization size to 50 members, increase number of local chapters to 6000 by 2013. Consequently, every National Organization has a growth target to achieve in 2009. How well therefore are we selling ourproduct-JCI to young people in our communities, in our work places and in social gatherings? What does our projects and programmes say about us who we are.

The issues of global warming and environmental degradation are no more strangers to us. The World over, nations and organizations are looking for new and better ways of arresting this global concern. We are called to carry the campaign against global warming to the nooks and corners of our communities.

I challenge National Organizations in Area A to get recognition from their country Governments as young active citizens? Our existence will be nothing without recognition, participation and involvement. If we do not say here we are, nobody will say there you are. Dear Friends, we must wake up. We must engage Government in discusses. We must be seen to be relevant to the society. Thats the only way to be active.

Area A Conference in Yamoussoukro is fast approaching, and I ask you to prepare to attend en mass. First timers competition, training, signature courses, debate and speech contest, which of these will you enter for. You could be the next champion you know?

Furthermore, Area A has been identifi ed to have great potentials. But the question remains; are we taking advantage of these potentials? It is time for us to get out of our comfort zone and take up new challenges. After all, progress in life is not measured by security, but by growth and growth means taking bold steps (occasional risks), no one gets to anywhere interesting by doing always the same thing. Try a new thing today.

    Sincerely,

    Paschal Dike2009 JCI Vice Pre
