A s a student at SUNY Canton, you’ll receive an education in a small, friendly atmosphere.

We’re rolling… SUNY Canton offers rolling admission, unless otherwise specified, meaning you can apply anytime throughout the year. However, prospective students are encouraged to apply before April 1 for the Fall Semester and November 1 for the Spring Semester. Admission into some of our popular programs is limited, so it’s best to apply early.

SUNY Canton has more than 40 majors which lead to bachelor’s and associate degrees or one-year certificates, so there are plenty of options.

Mix, match, or climb up the ladder You can enroll for an associate degree and then decide if you’d like to stay for the bachelor’s program without losing time or taking unnecessary courses. Most of our bachelor’s degrees have coinciding associate degrees. You also have the opportunity to combine two one-year certificates for an associate degree.

Low Costs, Great ValuePaying for college is often a concern. The first step is to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can get a FAFSA application by going to www.fafsa.ed.gov to file online, from your high school guidance counselor, or local college Financial Aid Office. Prospective students are encouraged to submit their application by March 15.

Science, Health, and Criminal Justice• We offer eight majors in health and medical

professions.

• The Newell Veterinary Technology Center, featuring the latest technology and veterinary equipment, opened its doors in Spring 2003.

• Our Nursing students have enjoyed 100% job placement in recent years.

• Dental Hygiene is one of our newest and most successful two- and four-year degrees.

• Our Criminal Investigation curriculum is the only one of its kind in the eastern United States. Students don’t just read about investigations or research criminals. They solve crimes, intern at police stations, and partake in real-life situations.

• In our new Alternative and Renewable Energy Systems curriculum, students study concepts that augment or replace conventional energy systems.

• Our Engineering Science curriculum is the first two years of a four-year engineering program, but at a much lower cost than most schools of engineering.

Planet Canton

russian Classmates - Thirty-six students traveled more than 4,500 miles to take classes at SUNY Canton during the Summer of 2008. Many of the students will be earning bachelor’s degrees in Financial Services from SUNY Canton while simultaneously earning degrees in Mathematics and Cybernetics from Moscow State University.

SUNY Canton OnLine connects our campus to students and professors around the world, including Russia, Ukraine, Japan, Wyoming, and many others. Online classes allow students the convenience and flexibility to take classes from almost anywhere. Virtual classrooms allow students to take classes with their peers 5,000 miles away.

SUNY Canton welcomes students of all ages. We recognize that non-traditional students bring a strong desire to succeed and interesting life experiences to the classroom. We’ve created some special services for our non-traditional students:

• Commuter Lounge— While you’re on campus, you can take advantage of the commuter lounge with its lockers, microwave, refrigerator, computers, telephone, and comfortable furniture.

• housing— Non-traditional students can live on the Over-21 Floor in the residence halls.

• Kiddie College— If you have young children (K-6), Kiddie College offers supervised children’s activities on campus during public school vacations.

• omega alpha— Non-traditional students have a voice on campus through Omega Alpha, also known as the Commuter Club. It’s a great way to meet other commuters, organize events, or just speak up as a group.

Veterans, Military, and Families—We Salute YouSUNY Canton is one of the premier military-friendly colleges in New York State, offering excellent opportunities for veterans, soldiers, and their families.

Military personnel are attracted to the College’s career-driven bachelor’s or associate degrees, as well as specialized programs offered through the Center for Lifelong Learning.

Military personnel have enrolled from all over the world, including online from Iraq and Afghanistan. The college also has a Veterans Association to connect students and alumni who serve or have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

NAIA & Sunrise ConferenceSUNY Canton is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Sunrise Conference. The Sunrise Conference includes colleges from New York, Vermont, Maine, and Massachusetts.

Phenomenal FitnessConstruction of a new $45 million athletic and convocation center is underway and expected to be completed by early spring 2011. The new facility will include a fieldhouse with basketball courts, a hockey rink, a fitness center, lap pool, and much more. In the mean time, SUNY Canton’s current fitness center provides a safe and friendly workout environment with a wide variety of weight lifting and aerobic workout options. Membership for full-time students is included as part of their college fees.

New Facilities!• SUNY Canton installed a new $1.8 million lighted, synthetic turf field

for men’s and women’s soccer, intramurals, and recreational play.

• A beautiful new baseball diamond opened Fall 2008.

• The men’s and women’s cross country teams as well as campus and community members now enjoy a brand new trail system along the Grasse River and through the woods behind campus. Great for hiking, jogging, biking, and walking, the trails complete a 10k loop.

Other Healthy Options There are a number of fitness and lifestyle options at SUNY Canton. Intramurals, aerobics, or Pilates are among the choices. You can also take advantage of our convenient location near mountains and rivers for more outdoor activities. The list is endless!

Live and learn. SUNY Canton has four residence halls located along the Grasse River just steps away from academic buildings, Chaney Dining Center, and the Miller Campus Center. And they’re also just a ten-minute walk over the footbridges to the village of Canton.

Lifestyle Options theme housIng, Coed Floors: Grasse River Community, which allows residents to bring small- caged pets from home, and the Go Green! Environ-mental Awareness Floor for students interested in environmental issues both on and off campus.

non-theme housIng: These rooms are suited best for students looking for a more traditional-styled college living experience.

Suites, Coed Floor: Private, apartment-like living for four students.

Rooms with Enclosed Bath, Coed Wing/Floor: These rooms will offer six students additional privacy with external doorways. They will live in three double rooms and share a private bathroom.

Traditional Female Floor, Single-Sex Wing: This wing will be reserved for female students only.

Intensive Quiet Atmosphere, Coed Wing: Quiet hours are continuously in effect Sunday through Thursday with a break from 4–8 p.m.

The Nocturnal Roo, Coed Wing: An option for those who prefer to stay up a bit later and live in a less quiet living environment.

Vacation Housing, Coed Floor: This is the only residence hall that will be open during vacation periods.

Community Wing, Coed Wing: These floors are specifically designed for those over the age of 21 to live in an apartment-like atosphere.

Some like to live in a quiet area, others like to have lots of friends around. Choices range from single sex wings to coed wings and from intensive quiet areas to more relaxed living atmospheres.

You can get home-cooked meals at Chaney Dining Center. Students submit recipes from home that our chefs will make and serve. Home cooking never

Chaney Dining Center, conveniently located near the residence halls, serves meals seven days a week. Students living on campus have three options available—10 or 14 weekly meal plans or a block meal plan providing 150 meals per semester.

short on time? There are five other places on campus to grab a quick bite in the morning or a sandwich between classes. You can also pick up your favorite snacks at our campus store in the Miller Campus Center.

Miller Campus Center is the hub of activity for our college community. It is home to our campus store, post office, health center, student government offices, gymnasium, auditorium, and snack bar.

Go white-water rafting with the Outing Club, travel to a NASCAR race with the Automotive Club, or become a DJ on the campus radio station. No matter what your interests, there’s something for you at SUNY Canton.

You’ll find plenty of on-campus events to attend, which can be both fun and educational. Recent examples include a sold-out Breaking Benjamin concert, comedians from BET and Comedy Central, a visit from NASCAR’s Elliott Sadler, SUNY Canton Idol, Springfest, Family Weekend, and dances.
