STATEN ISLAND ASSOCIATION

June 10, 2008

Dear Youth Bowlers, Parents, and Friends,

Let me be the first to welcome you to the 3rd Staten Island USBCAssociation Youth Champions Dinner. Although this is the fifth dinnerfor our Staten Island Youth Champions, it is the third for our newlyformed organization. In September of 2005 the Staten Island Y.A.B.A. andStaten Island Women’s Bowling Association dissolved their respectiveorganizations to merge and form the Staten Island USBC Association. Thisnew organization serves as the primary bowling membership organizationfor adult and youth bowlers on Staten Island.

Under the direction of the Staten Island USBC Association, the Youth Committee is responsible for administering youth championshiptournaments, the scholarship program, youth fundraising, an In-SchoolBowling program, the Registered Volunteer Program through our SafetyFirst Initiative, and this youth champion’s dinner. The Youth Committee iscommitted to providing excellent programs and activities for our youthbowlers in the seasons to come.

Just a friendly reminder… Please keep in mind all of the availableopportunities that we offer our youth bowlers. This year we will beawarding over $3,500 in scholarships at this awards dinner. Mostimportantly over the course of the season over $100,000 in scholarships areavailable through numerous programs offered by our local, state, andnational affiliates.

In closing, I would like to extend my Congratulations to all the youthbowlers here this evening and thank all the volunteer members of theStaten Island USBC Association youth program for their continued hardwork and dedication to the youth bowlers of Staten Island

Yours in Bowling,

The Man in the Arena“It is not the critic who counts, not theman who points out how the strong manstumbled, or where the doer of deeds couldhave done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whoseface is marred by the dust and sweat andblood; who strives valiantly; who errs andcomes up short again and again; who knowsthe great enthusiams, the great devotionsand spends himself in a worthy cause; whoat the best, knows in the end the triumphof high achievement, and who at worst, ifhe fails, at least fails while daring greatly;so that his place shall never be with thosecold and timid souls who know neithervictory or defeat.” - Theodore Roosevelt
