Minutes of the BoardDecember 7, 2007

The meeting was called o order at 6:10 p.m.by Daryl Daniels, Administrator(soon o be named "High Commander"), with all Board members present.

Daniels asked for suggestions on ways to get Orange Class membersinvolved. Already underway is a plan to make January Club Night a "ClassLevel Club Night." Also suggested were (1 ) a'check in'list for class membersso we can more easily keep track of absences nd (2) a survey at the mid 'point of Mainstream to see how the class s doing/feeling. Also, an openinvitation to the Arch Angel to attend board meetings will be given to

The 2007 Anniversary Dance will have a Pajama Party theme. The caller sScott Bvdrs.

The Treasurer's Report was approved. The Treasurer also reported that hehas sent the required "Recruiting" receipts to the Petersen Fund. TheTreasurer will also prepare an "Expense Budget" for various Club functions.

To encourage more people o attend Club Nights, the Dance/Eventscoordinators wiII announce a theme for each gathering.

The January meeting of the Board was called o order at 6:10 p.m.by

Administrator Daryl Daniels.

Administrator Daniels reported that the Orange Class s doing well. He gavesome nformation about the planned MLK Day potluck and the FebruaryClass Night which will celebrate he Chinese New Year. He also said thatthe caller for the March Anniversary Dance (themed as a pajama party) willbe given a list of calls the Orange Class has learned so that they will feelmore comfortable participating in the dance.

The meeting was called to order at 6:15 p.m. by Administrator Daryl Daniels.The minutes of the January meeting were approved as emended.

The Administrator reported that Newsletter costs are down with manymembers opting to receive t online.

Plans for the Anniversary Dance/Pajama Party were discussed. Class Levelcalls will be included, Mainstream class members will be enco.rragedattend.

The annual yard sale has been entatively set for May Brd.

The feasibility of having a Western Star Dancers Pride parade float wasdiscussed and will be examined further.

The annual Angel Island Picnic and a new Circulate San Francisco will bediscussed at the next meeting.

The Membership Renewal period has closed. We now have 80 club members!

We received a check or $756.26 rom the Petersen Fund to d"efrayexpensesfor the street Fair and other recruiting activities.

Sponsored Club Nights were discussed. The person sponsoring he event willchoose a theme and, with thb caller, will discuss class evel calls and music.The Board approved a $zs decorating budget for each event.

Class due help to rent ourspace at Eureka Valley and put on programs for our dancers,

Proposal: New Member Recruitment ncentive

I'd like to propose hat WSDoffer a $5 discount off a member's duesfor referring a new member who oins WSDand pays dues (as anexperienced ancer) or class ees (as a new dancer).

The new member must not have been a prior member of WSD n thepast who is re-joining WSD. They may, however, be a member ofanother square dance club n the area who wants to also oin WSD..

To implement he proposal, we need some way of tracking paidreferrals and matching hem with the referring member. One way to dothis would be to add a space on the membership & class orms for thenew member o provide he name of the referring member.

Upon eceipt of the new member's payment, we could send he currentmember a shoft form letter thanking hem for sharing he fun of WSDdancing with others along with a coupon or $5 off membershiprenewal.

The ncome gained rom a new member's dues or class ees more hanoffsets he $5 discount, and assists us with our recruitment effofts.

The meeting was called to order at 6:72 p.m. by Administrator Daryl Daniels.The minutes of the February meetitrg **"" accepted as emended.

Daniels reported that more than half of the members have opted to receivethe Newsletter online. The next edition will have only aboui a0 copies.

Plans for the upcoming Anniversary Dance/pajama party were discussed.

Ron Masker has contacted us about a fund raiser for the Aids EmergencyFund at the county Fair Building in Golden Gate park on June r. irr"ywould like us to dance as entertainment. Masker to provide moreinformation.

Regarding a float in the '08 Pride Parad.e, he decision was mad.e o cancelany plan for this year. The subject will be raised at the annual meeting andif the enough members are interested in a float for the '0g parade, a taskforce will be formed to investigate the matter.

Daniels presented he Archangel definition formal proposal for addition toclub policies or final approval. It was approved.

Daniels brought up for discussion he following items: ASCAP licensing ofcallers, Orange Class Completion plans, Yellow Class 2009 Calendar. Heannounced that he will attend a meeting on May 29 of Bay Area club officials\- in preparing a proposal or the 2013 IAGSDC convention.

The Treasurer's report was approved.

Plans for Circulate San Francisco were discussed as were plans for a LaborDay picnic in Mclaren Park.

The June meeting of the Board was called to order by High CommanderDaryl Daniels at 6:20 p.m. Board members present were Daniels, Dewsnap,Brundage, and Tuccio.

July Club Night (July 16) will have a Hawaiian theme. Gary Cohn is theman in charge. Tentative plans for August Club night are for a HomecomingReunion.

The 2009 Yellow Class schedule was discussed. Tentatively, the MainstreamClass will be completed before Convention (scheduled or April 9'12 in D.C.).This will mean a shortened MS schedule and will make possible a longer Plusschedule.

hDaniels praised the club for the success of the Labor Day Picnic at MclarenPark. And Tuccio reported that the leftovers will be used at the Octoberfestctub Nisht.

Plans or the Castro Street Fair and Yellow Class'09 recruiting were discussedas were plans for the Leather and Lace Dance: 25 Years of the Folsom StreetFair.

Daniels said he is planning a "State of the CIub" address for the annualmeeting/Board elections o take place on9/17.

The next Board meeting will be scheduled after the new Board is elected.
