Streaks, Trends and Notes:- Hofstra’s recent seven-game win streak was the program’slongest since an eight-game streak in 2006-07 and is the third-longest in the program’s Division I history. Hofstra has nowwon four out of six, seven out of 12, eight out of last 14 and 15of its last 22 games.

- Hofstra’s last second win over Towson on January 15 wasthe program’s first last second victory since Jen Brickey’sunderhanded 18-footer defeated William & Mary, 80-78, onFebruary 8, 2003.

- Hofstra’s win at Delaware on January 8 was the program’sfirst-ever win in Newark over the Blue Hens in 25 tries and the58-49 win over Delaware on February 5 completed the Pride’sfirst-ever season sweep of the Blue Hens in the program’sDivision I history.

- Hofstra has made a three-pointer in 305 of its last 310games. The current streak is 68 games in a row.

- The Pride is 55-7 in its last 62 games when they hold theiropponent under 60 points (13-3 this season, 5-3 last season,20-1 in 2006-07, 11-0 in 2005-06 and 5-0 in 2004-05).

And Another One: Freshman forward Joelle Connellycontinued the strong start to her rookie campaign as she wasnamed the CAA Rookie of the Week for the second time inthree weeks on December 1. Connelly continued the strongstart to her NCAA career as she was second on the Pride thatweek in scoring at 9.7 points per outing, while leading thesquad with 6.3 rebounds per game. She had possibly the bestouting by a Hofstra player this season on Tuesday when sheposted her second double-double of the season with 15 pointsand 12 rebounds, while also dishing out a Hofstra season-highseven assists from one of the forward positions in the Pride's81-61 home-opener win over Manhattan. She shot 6-of-10from the field in that game and also added a pair of blocks anda steal in 27 minutes of action. She followed that game up witha five-point, four-rebound and four-block effort againstnationally-ranked Arizona State on Friday at the Junkanoo Jamin the Bahamas, before closing the week with another solidouting against Southern Illinois. Connelly posted nine points,three rebounds and three blocks against the Salukis, whilemaking all three of her field goal attempts in her first careerstart.

Pass Happy Offense: Led by seven assists from freshmanforward Joelle Connelly, Hofstra dished out 27 assists in its 81-61 victory over Manhattan on November 25. Five differentplayers had at least three assists in the contest as the Pridehad 17 assists in the second half alone. The 27 assists werethe most for a Pride team since Hofstra dished out 28 in an 87-81 victory over Niagara on January 30, 1989.

Low Scoring: For just the fourth time in program history,Hofstra held two straight opponents under 50 points (St.Francis (NY) – 46 and NJIT – 43). Since becoming a Division Iprogram in 1982-83, the Pride has never held three straightopponents under 50 points.

Third Time’s A Charm: Hofstra University freshman forwardJoelle Connelly continued the torrid start to her rookiecampaign as the freshman from Arcade, New York was namedthe Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week onDecember 8. Connelly previously has won the CAA Rookie ofthe Week award on November 17 and December 1. Connellycontinued to shine in her rookie campaign as the first-yearplayer had 11 points and career-highs of 13 rebounds and sixblocks to lead Hofstra to a thrilling 80-73 overtime road victoryover Buffalo on Saturday afternoon. The 13 rebounds weretied for game-high honors and her six blocks marked a game-high. Even more impressive than her statistics was herbuzzer-beating basket as time expired in regulation that sentthe contest into overtime. Connelly grabbed the offensiverebound off of a shot from junior guard Sam Brigham andreleased it in the lane moments before the clock showed allzeros. Connelly was 5-7 from the field and she had fouroffensive rebounds and nine defensive boards, while alsopicking up three assists.

CAA Preseason Poll: Old Dominion, which has captured thepast 16 Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball titles,was picked to repeat as conference champion in 2007-08according to a vote of the league’s coaches, sports informationdirectors and media. The results of the poll were announcedduring CAA Basketball Media Day on October 17 at the ESPNZone in Washington, D.C.

First Player of the Week Award: The Hofstra Women'sBasketball team picked up its first Colonial Athletic Association(CAA) Player of the Week award this season on January 19 asjunior center Jess Fuller earned the honor after leading thePride to a pair of victories last week. Fuller shared the awardwith Quanitra Hollingsworth of Virginia Commonwealth. Theaward was the sixth of the season from the CAA for Hofstra, asfreshman forward Joelle Connelly has been named the CAARookie of the Week three times and freshman guard NicoleCapurso has earned Rookie of the Week accolades on twooccasions. One of the most dangerous post players in theCAA, Fuller continued her assault on the rest of the conferenceas she posted two double-doubles in leading Hofstra to a pairof victories last week. Against Towson on Thursday, Fullertotaled 12 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks in 29 minutes asHofstra earned a last-second victory over Towson by the scoreof 57-55. Fuller, who ranks amongst the nation's leaders infield goal percentage and blocked shots, was 5-7 from the fieldagainst the Tigers and 2-2 from the free throw line. She hadfive offensive rebounds and five defensive rebounds, and herrebounding total marked a game-high. In Hofstra's second winof the week, a 55-45 victory over William & Mary on Sunday,Fuller had 11 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks to help leada spirited defensive effort. She was 4-7 from the field, 3-4 fromthe charity stripe and grabbed eight of her rebounds on thedefensive end while playing 34 minutes. For the week, Fulleraveraged 11.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game,while shooting 64.3% from the field.

Dynamic Duo: The duo of junior center Jess Fuller andfreshman forward Joelle Connelly have teamed up to causesome serious havoc for Hofstra opponents this season. Theyhave combined to averaged 20.9 points (Fuller 11.8; Connelly9.1), 14.2 rebounds (Fuller 7.9; Connelly 6.3) and 5.3 blocks(Fuller 3.2; Connelly 2.1) this season. Early Signings: Hofstra University Head Women's BasketballCoach Krista Kilburn-Steveskey announced on November 13the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters ofIntent as part of her third recruiting class at Hofstra. Thestudent-athletes include Shante Evans (West Chester,Pennsylvania), Candace Bond (Fort Washington, Maryland)and Lindsey Watson (Orlando, Florida). All three players willbegin their academic and athletic careers at Hofstra in the fallof 2009. Evans will come to Hofstra from Henderson HighSchool (West Chester, PA), where she led the Warriors to thebest record in school history in 2007-08. Evans enters hersenior season ranked No. 54 in the ESPN HoopGurlz100, anational ranking for prep players. Evans was the first female inHenderson history to score 1,000 career points. The 6-0forward earned first-team All-Area honors the past threeseasons, taking the Warriors to the second round of the districtplayoffs. As a junior, Evans averaged 25.8 points and 19.9rebounds per game. It marked the third consecutive seasonEvans averaged a double-double, helping the frontcourtstandout lead Henderson to the Ridley Tournamentchampionship. The 5-10guard was also a member of the D.C. Heat, which advanced tothe semifinals of the U.S. Junior National tournament thissummer. The all-star team went 40-9. The 5-7 guard is comingoff a stellar junior season in which she averaged 14.7 pointsper game along with four rebounds and 4.8 assists. Watsonshot 60 percent from the field, earning Central Florida Player ofthe Year honors and the Orlando Sentinel’s Varsity WinterSports Female of the Year award. Watson was named theFinal Four MVP after helping the Hornets advance deep intothe playoffs. Watson contributed 238 points her freshman year,earning second team All-State accolades. Congrats Coach: Third-year Head Coach Krista Kilburn-Steveskey, who has a career mark of 47-44, picked up careervictory number one when the Pride defeated Wichita State, 79-72, on November 10, 2006. Coach Kilburn-Steveskey’s firstyear winning percentage of .765 ranks as the best among the12 head coaches in the history of women’s basketball atHofstra. The next best was Leslie Schlegel-Danowski’s .518winning percentage (14-13) in 1993-94.

Buzzer Beaters: Freshman forward Joelle Connelly hascertainly made an impact in her freshman campaign. Hofstra’sthird leading scorer and second leading rebounder, Connelly’simpact, though, can directly be seen in two victories. AgainstBuffalo on December 6, Connelly grabbed an offensiverebound and scored as time expired to send that game intoovertime, where the Pride would eventually prevail. Thatwould just be an appetizer for Connelly, as the heraldedfreshman didn’t send the Towson game on January 15 toovertime, rather she won it with a last second shot against theTigers. Connelly had a double-double against the Bulls andscored a team-high 16 points against the Tigers.

It’s All Over: Due to injury, Hofstra’s iron women, senior guardNiki Williams saw her streak of 51 straight starts and 95consecutive games played come to an end in the Pride’sseason opener at Iona on November 14. Next on the list interms of consecutive games played is senior guard Natty Frippwith 75 in a row, while junior guard Sam Brigham had started ateam-high 40 games in a row until missing the Delawarecontest. Fripp now leads the way with 27 straight starts.

Capurso Joins Connelly: Hofstra University freshman guardNicole Capurso picked up the first weekly award of hercollegiate career on December 29 as she was named theColonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week, theconference office announced. It marked the fourth time thisseason that a Hofstra player has earned CAA Rookie of theWeek honors as freshman forward Joelle Connelly garneredthe accolade on November 17, December 1 and December 8.Capurso shined for the Pride in their 70-46 victory over St.Francis (NY) on December 22 as the first-year guard tallied agame and season-high 20 points to lead Hofstra to the 24-pointvictory. The Staten Island, New York native almost single-handedly helped Hofstra jump out to a 19-point halftimeadvantage as she scored 16 of her points in the openingtwenty minutes to allow the Pride to open the double-digithalftime lead. Capurso was 8-17 from the field in the contest,including 3-5 from beyond the arc. She also added fourrebounds, three assists and three steals in 26 minutes ofaction.

Catching Up To Connelly: Hofstra University freshman guardNicole Capurso earned her second Colonial AthleticAssociation (CAA) Rookie of the Week award this season onJanuary 12 after averaging 22 points per game in the Pride’stwo contests the previous week. Capurso previously earnedthe award on December 29 and it marks the fifth time thatHofstra has received the CAA Rookie of the Week accoladethis year as freshman forward Joelle Connelly received thehonor on November 17, December 1 and December 8.Capurso has a stellar week for the Pride as she poured in acareer-high 23 points in Hofstra’s win over Delaware beforetying for game-high honors against Drexel with 21 points.Against the Blue Hens, Capurso played 42 minutes of theovertime contest, nailing 10 field goals and three three-pointersas she helped lead Hofstra to its first-ever win (62-53) overDelaware in Newark in 25 tries. Capurso added four rebounds,three steals and two assists in her first start of the season. InSunday’s game at Drexel (71-66 loss), Capurso was the game-high scorer once again as she scored her 21 points on 6-15shooting, including 5-10 from beyond the arc. The five three-pointers marked a season-high for Pride individual this seasonand she added a pair of rebounds as well in 33 minutes. Forthe week Capurso averaged 22 points, three rebounds and twosteals per game, and hit on eight of her 20 three-pointattempts.

Nice Debut: Freshman forward Joelle Connelly’s 17-point, 10-rebound effort at Iona on November 14 was the most pointsscored by a Hofstra freshman in their debut since Cigi McCollinpoured in 23 in an 88-62 Pride victory over St. Francis (NY) onNovember 23, 2002. In addition, it is the first-ever double-double by a Hofstra rookie in their debut in the program’sDivision I history (since 1982-83).

All-Tournament: Sophomore guard Candice Bellocchio wasHofstra’s lone representative on the all-tournament team at theJunkanoo Jam after averaging 10.5 points, 3.5 assists, 2.5steals and 2.5 rebounds in the Pride’s two contests.

Mayor Pillow: In this the year of the Presidential Inauguration,even the Hofstra Women’s Basketball team has a closeconnection to politics. First-year Assistant Coach ShalonPillow father, Dan, is the mayor of Addyston, Ohio. Locatedapproximately 10 miles west of downtown Cincinnati on theOhio River, Addyston is a community of about 1,000 residentsthat was founded in 1891 by Matthew Addy. Coach Pillow’smom, Ann, is also involved as she serves as a VillageCouncilperson.

Hall, a 1982graduate of Hofstra University with a degree in physicaleducation and a resident of Florence, Massachusetts, ranks asone of the top scorers and rebounders in the history of theHofstra Women’s Basketball program. During her career from1978-82, Hall poured in 1,276 points and pulled down 899rebounds. She is one of only five players in school history toscore at least 1,200 points and gather at least 800 rebounds.In her tenure with the Pride, Hall’s teams compiled a 92-40record and that four-year span (1978-82) ranks as the second-best four-year total in Hofstra Women’s Basketball history.The 2008 Massachusetts Elementary Physical EducationTeacher of the Year, Hall began her teaching career in NewYork City and today works at Margaret C. Capurso and Connelly Tied at Three: The Hofstra Women'sBasketball team continued its stranglehold on the ColonialAthletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week award asfreshman guard Nicole Capurso was named the conference'srookie of the week on January 26 after leading the Pride to a 1-1 week, including a victory over Georgia State on Sunday.Capurso has now won the award three times this season asshe previously earned the accolade on December 29 andJanuary 12. Along with fellow freshmen, forward JoelleConnelly, Hofstra has now earned six of the 13 rookie awardsthe conference has handed out this season.
