    2008-2009 Faculty Salary Analysis

    EXPLANATORY NOTES

    The purpose of this document is to provide salary information for faculty at The University of Texas at Austin by rankwithin academic discipline. This report presents academic year salaries based on faculty appointments effective November 1,2008. Unless otherwise noted, the sources for salary information are the Office of Information Management and Analysisfaculty data files.

    This faculty salary analysis document was originally developed for distribution to member institutions of theAssociation of American Universities Data Exchange (AAUDE). In order to provide the highest level of possible comparabilitybetween institutions, document format and reporting criteria have been defined and agreed upon by AAUDE memberinstitutions as follows:

    Personnel Included: All individuals in instructional units holding faculty appointments with rank of Professor,Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, or Instructor are included, as well as other teaching facultyemployed half-time or more. Other teaching faculty include lecturers and specialists, as well as visiting,adjunct, and clinical titles. Administrators are included in a particular unit if they have a separate facultyappointment of half-time or greater in that unit. All faculty appointments are on a nine-month basis.

    Salaries: Faculty salary data for 2008-09 are based on appointments, and represent full-time rates forfaculty appointed in a particular unit. Both headcount and FTE counts are presented.

    The salary figures also include supplements from endowment income. Salaries for part-time appointmentshave been adjusted to full-time rates for this analysis. If an individual has appointments in more than oneunit, all faculty counts and salaries are allocated to the faculty members primary unit.

    Average Age: The average age of faculty is included in the analysis.

    CIP Code: The Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) coding system is used to define instructionalareas and in nearly all cases matches our departmental organizational structure. CIP codes reflect the 2000code updates.

    Fringe Benefits: A complete summary of The University's fringe benefits follows. Unless specifiedotherwise, to be eligible to receive the listed benefits an employee must be employed 50% time or more forat least 4-1/2 months.

    Specific attention should be given to the Premium Sharing Program (the amount paid by the State andthe University). Rates are based on the employees full-time or part-time status.

    For the UT Select program, the standard premium sharing contribution is $369.12 per month or$4,429.44 per year for a full-time faculty member; $562.54 per month or $6,750.48 per year for a full-timefaculty member and spouse; $492.87 per month or $5,914.44 per year for a full-time faculty member andchildren; and $687.44 per month or $8,249.28 per year for a full-time faculty member and family coverage.

    All calculable benefits amount to an additional 20.3% of the average faculty salary for all ranks.

    0-2 years of state service = 8 hours earned; 2-5= 9; 5-10 = 10, 10-15 = 11; 15-20 = 13; 20-25 =15; 25-30 = 17; 30-35 = 19; 35 or more = 21.Less than full-time but more than half-timeaccrue and carry over on a proportionate basis.

    Hazardous Duty Pay Commissioned PoliceOfficers

    $10.00 per month for each year of hazardousduty service up to and including 30 years.
