Thank you for joining us today as we celebrate our Chapter’s
inaugural Women of ALPFA event.
I would like to take this time to extend my gratitude to our
Sponsors and Community Partners for your continued
support in our organization. Working together, we have accomplished so much
and achieved goals of which we can be very proud. As we look to the future,
we want to continue to raise the bar and look forward to taking the chapter
to even greater heights. We are committed in working together to ensure that
the needs and expectations of our business partners are not merely met, but
exceeded!
As our Chapter continues to prosper, we are excited to launch our fist
signature event, Women of ALPFA. As many of you may know this will be
panelist discussion based on the book Nice Girls Don’t Get the Corner Office 101
Unconscious Mistakes that Women Make to Sabotage Their Careers, by Dr.
Frankel. This international best seller will lead a thought provoking self-analysis
of your career.
Our panelists have broken many barriers to achieve that goal, is it a cultural
behavior or does it crossover other cultures? From my own experience I had
to work harder, smarter and nicer just to be rewarded or get a pat on the back
(waiting for acceptance), in a field that was mostly dominated by men.
One day, I met a mentor, Dr. Sylvia Caceres, and she persuaded me to work
towards my Masters and with her guidance, I completed my educational goals.
My perseverance and tenacity lead me to empower myself, and reach my
professional goals and objectives. Today, I no longer wait for that corner office;
I have a corner office with a window overlooking beautiful green grass. I have
surrounded myself with women leaders that are visionary and have a strong
will to succeed. (Betty Lowery, Helena Hemraj, Carmen Santos, Maria Urbino,
Elsie Alfonso, Yaritza Velez, Mabel Jimenez, and Liza Cardona –Thank you!).
In the spirit of executing, one of ALPFA is founding principles: helping you
through helping others, the Orlando Chapter will continue to foster a culture
that empowers women in our community and pave the road for a “Journey of
Opportunity”. The next ALPFA Conference August 10 - 14, 2008 in Phoenix,
AZ, supports this goal with the theme of “The Rising Leadership of Latinos.”
Once again thank you to our panelist and their time for sharing their
experience with the audience. Our Sponsors and our Community Partners
for the opportunity to share your resources with us, and the opportunity to
cultivate existing relationships and implement new ones in the up and coming
year.
To our members and our volunteers that graciously helped put forth this
event, thank you for your time! I look forward to our continued success for the
remainder of 2007 and onward to the year to come, and I welcome you to be
part of our “Journey of Opportunity!”
Warm wishes,
