Getting StartedBefore you begin to operate the navigation system,read this manual thoroughly to become familiar withit and to understand how the system works.Any route suggestions made by this navigationsystem may never override local traffic regulations,your own judgement, and/or knowledge of safedriving practices.Disregard route suggestions made by thenavigation system if such suggestions would;cause you to perform a hazardous or illegalmaneuver, place you in a hazardous situation,or route you into an area you consider unsafe.Keeping your mind on the drive is important forsafe driving. See “Defensive Driving” in the Index ofyour vehicle’s owner manual for more information.Get familiar with your vehicle’s navigation systemso you can use it with less effort and take fulladvantage of its features. Your navigation systemincludes not only navigation, but also audiofunctions. While your vehicle is parked:

• Familiarize yourself with all of its controls: hardkeys on the faceplate and touch-sensitivescreen buttons.

• Familiarize yourself with its operation.

• Set up your audio by presetting your favoritestations, setting the tone, and adjusting thespeakers. Then, when driving conditionspermit, you can tune to your favorite stationsusing the presets and steering wheel controls.

• Set up the navigation features that can only bedone before you begin driving, such as enteringan address or a preset destination.

Entering a destination or alphanumeric textrequires many steps, so you can only performthese operations when the vehicle is in PARK (P).You will notice that touch-sensitive screenbuttons leading to the alphanumeric keyboard aredimmed out while driving.

Other functions may also be locked out whiledriving and they too will appear grayed out on thescreen — but all functions are available whenparked. Some functions can be performed whiledriving, as long as you can do so without divertingtoo much of your attention from your driving.

{CAUTION:

This system provides you with a far greateraccess to audio stations and song listings.Giving extended attention to entertainmenttasks while driving can cause a crash andyou or others can be injured or killed.Always keep your eyes on the road andyour mind on the drive — avoid engagingin extended searching while driving.

{CAUTION:

Looking at the moving map on thenavigation screen frequently or for toolong while driving can cause a crash andyou or others can be injured or killed.Keep your eyes and mind on the road andavoid looking too long or too often at themoving map on the navigation screen.Use the voice guidance directionswhenever possible.

The navigation system allows you to do thefollowing:

• Plan a route with provided turn-by-turn routeand map guidance with voice prompts.

• Select a destination using various methodsand choices.

• Receive Radio Data System (RDS) broadcastannouncements.

The information in the system may not always becomplete. Road conditions, such as prohibitedturns, detours, and construction zones, changefrequently. It is important to consider whether youcan follow the directions given by the systemfor the current conditions.

Every fifty times the vehicle is started and thenavigation system is turned on, the Caution screenwill appear. If the Caution screen appears, touchOK to load the map DVD information. If OK is notselected, all hard keys except for NAV (Navigation)and DEST (Destination) can be accessed. Once theNAV or DEST hard keys are pressed, this Cautionscreen will appear and OK must be pressed to loadthe map DVD information from the map disc.

When getting started you may set the navigationsystem to your preference or delete informationyou may have entered using various options.To do so, reference the following topics.

Language — English/MetricTo change the language of the navigation screens,see “Driver Information Center, DIC VehicleCustomization” in the Index of your vehiclesowner manual.

To change the navigation screens from Englishor metric, see “Driver Information Center, DICOperation and Displays” in the Index of yourvehicles owner manual.

Deleting Personal InformationThis navigation system can record and storepersonal information such as names andaddresses. At times, such as when you aredisposing of your vehicle, you may want todelete this information. See “Edit AddressBook — Edit/View” under Configure Menu onpage 44 for deleting information from theaddress book.

Storing Radio Station PresetsTo set preset radio stations, do the following:

1. Press the O (power) knob to turn thesystem on.

2. Press the AUDIO hard key and select thedesired band (AM, FM1, FM2, XM1, orXM2 (if equipped)).

3. Use the w (tuning) knob or the SEEKarrows to tune to the desired station.

4. Press and hold one of the five preset screenbuttons, at the bottom of the screen, until youhear a beep or see the station displayedon the selected preset button.

5. Repeat the steps for each preset.

Setting the TimeThe navigation system time and the analog clockare separate features. Changing the time throughthe navigation system will not change the time onthe analog clock and vice versa. See “AnalogClock” in the Index of your vehicles owner manualto change the analog clock time.

To set the time for the navigation system, do thefollowing:

1. Press the CONFIG key to enter the configuremenu options, then press the CONFIG keyrepeatedly until the time is selected ortouch the time screen button.

2. Press the Hours and Minutes − (minus) and+ (plus) signs to decrease or to increasethe time.

See “Setting the Time” under Configure Menu onpage 44 for more information.

Entering an Address and Point ofInterest, and Storing PresetDestinationsEntering an AddressTo enter a destination by inputting the city namefirst, do the following:

1. If the radio is already on with a map discinserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press the O (power) knob to turn thesystem on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See “Installing theMap DVD” under Maps on page 18 for moreinformation.

4. A caution may appear. Touch the OK screenbutton to proceed.

5. Press the DEST hard key.

6. Press the 2 Address Entry screen button.

7. Select the state/province screen button,if needed, to change the current state orprovince. A list of all of the available statesand provinces will appear. Select the state orprovince.

8. Once a state or province has been selectedthe City name category will automatically beselected for entry.If five or less names are available, a list willdisplay. If more than five are available, theList screen button will have a number in it,it represents the number of availablecities. Select this button to view the listand select a city.

9. Once a city has been selected the Streetname category will automatically be selectedfor entry.If five or less streets are available for theselected city, the system will display the list ofstreets. If more than five streets are availablethe system will display the alpha keyboard.

Start entering the street name. If five or lessnames are available, a list will display. If morethan five are available, the List screen buttonwill have a number in it, it represents thenumber of available streets. Select this buttonto view the list and select a street.

10. Once a street has been selected, select theHouse # screen button to enter the housenumber. The system will display the housenumber range that is available for the street.

11. Select the Go screen button. A map screen,with the destination marked, will appear.

12. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate andhighlight the route.

13. Select the Start Guidance screen button.You are now ready to start your route.

Entering a Point of Interest (POI)To set a destination by entering a Point ofInterest (POI), do the following:

1. If the radio is already on with a map discinserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press the O (power) knob to turn thesystem on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See “Installing theMap DVD” under Maps on page 18 for moreinformation.

4. A caution may appear. Touch the OK screenbutton to proceed.

5. Press the DEST hard key.

6. Press the i Point of Interest screen button.

7. Select the state/province screen button,if needed, to change the current state orprovince. A list of all of the available statesand provinces will appear. Select the state orprovince.

8. Enter the specific title of the POI in the POIname space (e.g. Washington Monument).If five or less names are available, a listwill display. If more than five are available,the List screen button will have a number in it,it represents the number of available POIs.Select this button to view the list.

9. Select the Go screen button next to the POI.A map screen, with the destination marked,will appear.

10. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate andhighlight the route.

11. Select the Start Guidance screen button.You are now ready to start your route.

Storing Preset Destinations1. If the radio is already on with a map disc

inserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press the O (power) knob to turn thesystem on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See “Installing theMap DVD” under Maps on page 18 for moreinformation.

4. A caution may appear. Touch the OK screenbutton to proceed.

5. Press the DEST hard key.Enter a destination. See Destination onpage 28 for more information on how to entera destination.

6. Press the DEST hard key, the Route screenwill display. Press the Final Destination orStopover screen button. The informationscreen will display for that location. Pressthe Add to Address Book screen button.The address book screen will appear.

7. Select the Name screen button. Analpha-keyboard will display. Enter thename. Select the Back screen button.

8. Press and hold one of the screen buttons atthe bottom of the screen until the nameappears in the screen button on the display.The name will appear in that preset destinationscreen button and is now available to selectfrom the Destination Entry screen. See “UsingYour Stored Preset Destinations” next inthis section to select it as a destination.See “Adding or Changing Preset Destinations”under Destination on page 28 for moreinformation on how to add preset destinations.

Using Your Stored Preset DestinationsThese destinations are available for selectionwhile driving.

1. If the radio is already on with a map discinserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press the O (power) knob to turn thesystem on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See “Installing theMap DVD” under Maps on page 18 for moreinformation.

4. A caution may appear. Touch the OK screenbutton to proceed.

Canceling GuidanceGuidance will be canceled once you arrive at yourfinal destination. To cancel guidance prior toarrival at the final destination, do the following:

1. Press the DEST hard key.

2. Press the Cancel Guidance screen button.

3. Press OK to confirm.

Guidance VolumeTo adjust the volume of voice guidance prompts,do the following:

1. Press the CONFIG hard key to enter themenu options, then press the CONFIGkey repeatedly until Nav is selected or touchthe Nav screen button.

2. Press the Voice Prompt screen button.

3. Press the + (plus) or – (minus) screen buttonsto increase or to decrease the volume of thevoice prompts. The system will respondwith the adjusted voice level.

Cleaning the Video ScreenWhen cleaning the video screen, use only a softclean cotton cloth dampened with clean water.

Features and Controls

Using the Navigation SystemThis section presents basic information needed tooperate the navigation system.

Use the hard keys located on the navigationsystem along with the available touch-sensitivescreen buttons on the navigation screen to operatethe system. See Navigation System Overviewon page 4 for more information.

Once the vehicle is moving, various functions willbe disabled to reduce driver distractions.

Hard KeysThe following hard keys are located on thenavigation system:

O / n (Power/Volume): Press this knob toturn the system on and off. Turn the knob toincrease or decrease the volume to the audiosystem.

Press and hold this knob for more thantwo seconds to turn off the navigation system, theRear Seat Entertainment (RSE), and Rear SeatAudio (RSA). If the vehicle has not been tuned off,the RSE and the RSA can be turned back onby pressing this knob and will continue play of thelast active source.

w (Tune): Turn the tune knob to go to thenext or previous radio station or disc trackor chapter. See Navigation Audio System onpage 62, CD Player on page 71, or DVD Playeron page 80 for more information.

Z (DVD Map Disc Eject): Press the ejectbutton, located next to the upper disc slot, to ejectthe DVD map disc. See Maps on page 18 formore information.

M (Load): Press the load button to load CDs oraudio/video DVDs. See CD Player on page 71or DVD Player on page 80 for more information.

Z (CD/DVD Eject): Press the eject button,located under the load button, to eject CDsor audio/video DVDs. See CD Player on page 71or DVD Player on page 80 for more information.

NAV (Navigation): Press this key to view yourvehicle’s current position on the map screen. Eachpress of this key will cycle through Full Map andthe tab that displays the current audio source (AM,FM, CD, etc.). Full Map displays the screen infull map view. Selecting the audio tab will split thescreen between the map screen and the currentaudio source screen menu. See “Audio” underNavigation Audio System on page 62 formore information.

RPT (Navigation Repeat): Press this key torepeat the last voice guidance prompt.

y © ¨ z (Seek): Press the seek arrows toseek and scan radio stations, to seek trackson a CD, and to seek chapters on a DVD. SeeNavigation Audio System on page 62, CD Playeron page 71, or DVD Player on page 80 formore information.

Touch-Sensitive Screen ButtonsTouch-sensitive screen buttons are locatedon the screen. When a screen button has beenselected, a beep will sound. Screen buttonsare highlighted when a feature is available.

Alpha-Numeric KeyboardLetters of the alphabet, symbols, punctuation,and numbers, when available, will display onthe navigation screen as an alpha or numerickeyboard. The alpha keyboard will display whenthe system requires entry of a city or street name.

All characters are touch-sensitive screenbuttons. Touch a character to select it.

A-Y (Accent Alphabet): Select this screen buttonto select letters with accent symbols. This buttonmay toggle to A-Z.

A-Z (Alphabet): Select this screen button toselect letters from the alphabet. This button maytoggle to A-Y.

0-9 (Numbers): Select this screen button toselect numbers.

U (Space): Select the space screen button toenter a space between characters or the wordsof a name.

Backspace: Select this screen button if anincorrect character has been selected.

To make name selections easier, the system willonly highlight the characters that can followthe last one entered. For example, if a Z isentered, a T may not be available for selection.

If a name is not display after entry, it may needto be entered differently or the map DVD disc maynot contain that information. See DatabaseCoverage Explanations on page 59 for moreinformation.

MapsThis section includes basic information that youneed to know about the map database.

The maps are stored on a DVD. The UnitedStates, Canada, and Puerto Rico are contained onone disc.

Detailed AreasRoad network attributes are contained in the mapdatabase for detailed areas. Attributes includeinformation such as street names, street address,turn restrictions, etc. A detailed area will includeall major highways, service roads, and residentialroads. The detailed areas include points ofinterest (POI) such as: restaurants, airports, banks,hospitals, police stations, gas stations, touristattractions, historical monuments, etc. The mapdatabase may not include data for newlyconstructed areas or map database correctionsthat are completed after the production of the disc.The navigation system will provide full routeguidance in the detailed map areas.

Limited Guidance AreasAny area that is not classified as detailed is alimited guidance area. Limited guidance streetswill be displayed on the map display but routeguidance may not be given on these streets.Some POI categories, such as the city center POIcategory, and some street addresses areincluded in the limited guidance areas.

The navigation system will inform you by voiceprompts when you are traveling into a limitedguidance area where route guidance will not beavailable. The street maps and the directionalarrow displayed on the navigation system canthen be used to determine the remaining route toyour destination.

Installing the DVD Map DiscYour dealer/retailer may have installed the mapDVD. If the map DVD was not installed, dothe following to load it:

1. Turn the ignition on.

2. Press the O (power) knob to turn thenavigation system on.

3. Load the map DVD partway into the slotlocated just below the screen. The systemwill pull it in.

4. If the Caution screen appears, touch the OKscreen button to agree.

DVD Map Disc MessagesIf Disc Read Error appears on the display and/orthe map disc comes out, it could be for one ofthe following reasons:

• It is very hot, when the temperature returns tonormal, the map disc should play.

• You are driving on a very rough road. Whenthe road becomes smoother, the map discshould play.

• The map disc is dirty, scratched, wet, orupside down.

If any error occurs repeatedly or if an error cannotbe corrected, contact your dealer/retailer.

Ejecting the DVD Map Disc

Z (DVD Map Disc Eject): Press the ejectbutton, located next to the upper disc slot, to ejectthe DVD map disc.

Map AdjustmentsThe system allows you to adjust the scale of viewon the map. Also, as you drive, the map willscroll automatically based on the direction oftravel.

Map Scales

+ / − (Zoom In/Zoom Out): Touch the zoom inor out screen buttons or the scale on the bar tochange the level of map detail. The scale willappear on the screen once the zoom in or zoom outscreen buttons are selected. The system will adjustthe map accordingly. The scale of a map can rangefrom 1/32 mi. (50 m) to 256 mi. (400 k). To changeEnglish or metric, see “Driver Information Center,DIC Operation and Displays” in the Index of yourvehicle’s owner manual.

Scrolling the Map

Touch anywhere on themap screen and thescroll symbol willappear. Use this featureto scroll across the map.

Move your finger in any direction on the mapscreen and the map will continue to scroll in thatdirection until you remove your finger.

If scrolling while your vehicle is in PARK (P), thesystem will scroll initially at a slower rate. Itwill increase if you continue touching the mapscreen.

If scrolling while your vehicle is in motion, youhave one scroll speed and a limited distance toscroll. You have to keep touching the map screento scroll for a longer distance.

If you have used the scroll feature to scroll themap and your vehicle icon becomes lost, press theNAV (Navigation) key to return to the currentvehicle location on the map.

You can use the scroll feature on the map to set adestination. See “From Map” under Destinationon page 28 for more information.

When scrolling on the map without a planned route,press the GO screen button to calculate the routefrom your current position to the destination mark.

SymbolsThe following symbols are the most commonsymbols that will appear on a map screen.

The stopover symbolwill display on the mapafter a stopover hasbeen added to the route.

The stopover symbols are numbered one throughthree, depending on how many stopovers havebeen set.

The distance todestination symbolindicates the distance tothe final destination.

This symbol only appears when the time to thedestination is not available or while you arescrolling on the map.

The distance and timeto destination symbolindicates the distanceand the estimatedtime remaining toyour final destination,depending on theoption selected.

The straight line todistance symbolindicates thestraight-line distance toyour destination.

This symbol will appear before you start driving onthe route or if you are on a road where navigationguidance cannot be given.

The north up symbolindicates the map withNorth Up, known asNorth Up mode.

While in North Up mode, the vehicle icon willfollow the north direction on the map regardless ofwhich direction the vehicle is traveling. Selectthis screen symbol to switch between North Up,Heading Up, and 3–D view modes.

The heading up symbolindicates that thevehicle is traveling upon the map and isknown as HeadingUp mode.

The shaded triangle indicates the North direction.While in Heading Up mode the direction at thetop of the screen and the way the vehicle icon isheading indicates the direction your vehicle istraveling. Select this screen symbol to switchbetween Heading Up, North Up, and 3–D viewmodes.

Three-dimensional (3–D) view mode will changethe appearance of the map display to a roadlevel view.

The No GPS symbol willappear when yourvehicle is acquiring ornot receiving a GlobalPositioning System(GPS) satellite signal.

Select the Mark screenbutton to store thelocation on the screenin your address book.

The system will automatically store the point in theaddress book. See “Adding Destinations to theAddress Book” under Destination on page 28 formore information.

Displaying Points of Interest (POI) on theMap Screen

Select the POI screenbutton to display ordelete POI icons fromthe map.

Displaying POI icons on the map lets you knowwhere POIs (e.g. restaurants, gas stations,etc.) are located. This screen will appear afterselecting the POI screen button.

POI Close to: Once a category has beenselected, select this screen button to displaythe list of available POIs for the selected POIcategories. The list provides the POI icon,the name, the direction, and the distance to thePOI from your vehicle’s current position. Driving on a RouteWhen a destination has been routed and you aredriving on route, the map screen will automaticallydisplay the next maneuver.

When you are approximately 1/4 mi (400 m) fromthe next maneuver, the screen will display thename and a detailed view of the next maneuver.

3–D Lane Guidance

Some major metropolitan areas may include a3–D lane guidance feature for highway exits andjunctions. This feature gives you a more vividrepresentation of the exits and junctions on yourroute. Cities that include this feature are New York,Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, and San Francisco,and may also include Philadelphia, WashingtonD.C., and other major highway junctions.

Dual Mode

This dual screen symbolwill display when thescreen is in dual mode.

Dual mode displays the route on half of the screenand a maneuver or turn list on the other half.Press this button to switch between dual screenand full screen which displays the entire route.

Auto RerouteWhen your destination is set and you are off theplanned route, the system will automatically plan anew route and begin to reroute. The new routewill be highlighted on the screen.

DestinationPress the DEST key to access the DestinationEntry screen. From this screen, you canselect from several options to plan a route byentering destination points.

Address Entry

2 Address Entry: The address entrydestination method allows you to enter an addressby providing the system with a city name or astreet name.

To enter a destination by inputting the city namefirst, do the following:

1. Press the DEST hard key.

2. Select the 2 Address Entry screen button.

3. Select the state/province screen button, ifneeded, to change the current state orprovince. A list of all of the available statesand provinces will appear. Select the state orprovince.

4. Once a state or province has been selectedthe City name category will automatically beselected for entry.Enter the City Name or touch the Last 5 Citiesscreen button.The Last 5 Cities screen will display a list ofthe last five city names that had been entered.Select a city from the list and it will appearin the City name area.If using the alpha keyboard, finish entering thecity name. 3. Select the Map Coordinates screen button.

4. Select Latitude and select either N (north) orS (south) to enter the direction of the latitudecoordinate. Enter the numeric portion ofthe latitude coordinate.

5. Select Longitude and select either E (east) orW (west) next to enter the direction of thelongitude coordinate. Enter the numericportion of the longitude coordinate.

6. Once both coordinates are entered, select theGo screen button. The map screen, with thedestination marked, will display.

Avoid: Touch this screen button, next to theadjacent street name, to avoid the maneuver.

j (Pause): Select this screen button to pausethe route preview, while in reverse or fast forwardscroll.

r / [ (Fast Forward Scroll): Select this screenbutton to scroll to the next stopover or to thefinal destination. The u (fast forward skip) buttonwill change to a fast speed fast forward.

u (Fast Forward Skip): Select this screenbutton to go to the next stopover or to the finaldestination.

DetourDetour: Select this screen button from the Routescreen, then select to detour 1 mile, 3 miles, or5 miles (1 km, 3 km, 5 km) around the currentroute. You may also select to detour the wholeroute if necessary. This option is only availablewhile you are driving on your current planned route.

Add Stopover

Add Stopover: Select this screen button from theRoute screen. This feature allows you to add upto three stopovers to the current route, betweenyour start point and final destination. Once astopover has been added, the points can be editedor deleted.

To add a stopover:

1. Press the DEST hard key.

2. Select the Add Stopover screen button. Thisbutton will only appear if a route has beencalculated.

3. Using the desired method of entering adestination, enter the stopover. See“Destination” previously for more information.

4. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate andhighlight the route.

5. Select the Start Guidance screen button.You are now ready to start your route.

6. To add the second and third stopovers, pressthe DEST hard key, then select the Addscreen button, where you would like the nextwaypoint to fall on the route.

Suspend GuidancePress this screen button, from the Route screen,to put the current route on hold.

Adding Destinations to the AddressBookThere are two ways to add a destination to theaddress book:

• To add the current vehicle position to theaddress book, press the Mark screenbutton from the map screen. The systemwill automatically save the current vehicleinformation in the address book. Whenscrolling on the map the Mark screen buttonwill automatically add the current scrolledposition information in the address book.

• Press the Add to Address Book screen buttonwhen available on POI information screens,Destination Entry screens, or POI screens.The system will automatically save thisinformation in the address book.

Adding or Changing PresetDestinationsThis feature allows you to add or change one offive preset destinations. When a destinationhas been added as a preset destination, it will beavailable to select from the Destination Entryscreen. See “Preset Destination” previously forinformation on how to select a preset destinationas a final destination.

To store the current vehicle position as a presetdestination:

1. Select the Mark screen button from the mapscreen to add the current vehicle position tothe address book. The Address Bookscreen will appear.

2. Select the Name screen button. Analpha-keyboard will display. Enter the name.Press the OK screen button then the Backscreen button to return to the addressbook information screen.

3. Press and hold one of the buttons at thebottom of the screen until the name appearsin that preset destination screen button. Itis now available to select from the DestinationEntry screen.

To store an address book entry as a presetdestination:

1. Select the CONFIG hard key.

Off-Road ModeTo turn the Off-road mode on or off, do thefollowing:

1. Press the CONFIG hard key.

2. Press the Nav screen button.

3. Press the Off-Road mode screen button.The button will be highlighted when thefeature is on.

When the off-road mode is turned on, thenavigation system will show the path beingtraveled by the vehicle when not on a markedroad. This path will be a simulation since the mapdatabase coverage will not have these roadson the DVD. This path will be stored in thenavigation system’s memory, see “PreviousDestination” under Destination on page 28 formore information.

Rear Vision CameraYour vehicle may be equipped with a rear visioncamera system. Read this entire section beforeusing the camera system.

The rear vision camera system is designed tohelp the driver when backing up by displaying aview, on the navigation screen, of the area behindthe vehicle when the driver shifts the vehicleinto REVERSE (R). Once the driver shifts out ofREVERSE (R), the navigation screen will go backto the last screen that had been displayed, aftera delay.

Turning the Rear Vision Camera SystemOn or OffTo turn the rear vision camera system on or off,do the following:

1. Shift into PARK (P).

2. Press the CONFIG hard key to enter theconfigure menu options, then press theCONFIG hard key to select Display or touchthe Display screen button.

3. Select the Rear Camera Options screenbutton. The Rear Camera Options screenwill display.

4. Select the Video screen button. When thevideo button is highlighted, RVC system is on.

The delay that is received after shifting out ofREVERSE (R) is approximately 10 seconds.The delay can be cancelled by performing oneof the following:

• Pressing a hard key on the navigation systemor touching the navigation screen.

• Shifting in to PARK (P).

• Reach a vehicle speed of 7 mph (11 km/h).

There is a message on the rear vision camerascreen that states “Check Surroundings for Safety”.

{CAUTION:

The Rear Vision Camera (RVC) systemdoes not replace driver vision.RVC does not:

• Detect objects that are outside thecamera’s field of view, below thebumper, or underneath the vehicle.

• Detect children, pedestrians,bicyclists, or pets.

Do not back the vehicle by only looking atthe rear vision camera screen, or use thescreen during longer, higher speedbacking maneuvers or where there couldbe cross-traffic. Your judged distancesusing the screen will differ from actualdistances.

So if you do not use proper care beforebacking up, you could hit a vehicle, child,pedestrian, bicyclist, or pet, resulting invehicle damage, injury, or death. Eventhough the vehicle has the RVC system,always check carefully before backing upby checking behind your vehicle.

Rear Vision Camera Location

The image is provided by the camera locatedabove the license plate or under the endgatehandle.

The camera uses a special lens. The distance ofthe image that appears on the screen differsfrom the actual distance. The area displayed bythe camera is limited. The camera does not displayobjects which are close to either corner of thebumper or under the bumper. The area displayedon the screen may vary according to vehicleorientation or road conditions.

Adjusting the Brightness and Contrast ofthe ScreenTo adjust the brightness and contrast of thescreen, press the CONFIG key while the rearvision camera image is on the display. Anyadjustments made will only effect the rear visioncamera screen.

SymbolsThe navigation system may have a feature for youto view symbols on the navigation screen whileusing the rear vision camera. The Ultrasonic RearPark Assist (URPA) system must not be disabledto use the caution symbols. If URPA has beendisabled and the symbols have been turned on, anerror message may display, Rear Parking AssistSymbols Unavailable.

The symbols will appear when an object has beendetected by the URPA system. The symbolmay cover the object when viewing the navigationscreen.

To turn the symbols on or off, do the following:

1. Make sure that URPA has not been disabled.

2. Shift into PARK (P).

3. Press the CONFIG hard key to enter theconfigure menu options, then press theCONFIG hard key repeatedly until Displayis selected or touch the Display screen button.

4. Select the Rear Camera Options screenbutton. The Rear Camera Options screenwill display.

5. Touch the Symbols screen button. The screenbutton will be highlighted when on.

When the System Does Not Seem To WorkProperlyThe rear vision camera system may not workproperly or display a clear image in the followingsituations:

• The feature may be turned off. See “Turningthe Rear Vision Camera System On or Off”earlier in this section.

• In the dark.

• When the sun or the beam of headlights isshining directly into the camera lens.

• If ice, snow, mud, or anything else builds upon the camera lens. Clean the lens, rinse itwith water, and wipe it with a soft cloth.

• If the back of the vehicle is in an accident, theposition and mounting angle of the cameramay change or the camera may be affected.Be sure to have the camera and its positionand mounting angle checked at yourdealer/retailer.

• Extreme high or low temperatures or extremetemperature changes can affect the imagedisplayed.

Rear Vision Camera Error Messages

Rear Vision Camera System Unavailable: Thismessage may display when the system is notreceiving information it requires from other vehiclesystems.

Service Rear Vision Camera System: Thismessage may display when the system isnot receiving video from the camera.

If any other problem occurs or if a problempersists, see your dealer/retailer.

Global Positioning System (GPS)The navigation system determines the position ofyour vehicle by using satellite signals, variousvehicle signals, and map data.

At times, other interferences such as the satellitecondition, road configuration, the condition ofthe vehicle and/or other circumstances caninterfere with the navigation system’s ability todetermine the accurate position of the vehicle.

The GPS shows the current position of yourvehicle using signals sent by the GPS Satellites ofthe United States Department of Defense.

When your vehicle is not receiving signals fromthe satellites, a symbol will appear on themap screen. Refer to Symbols on page 21.

This system may not be available or interferencesmay occur if any of the following are true:

• Signals are obstructed by tall buildings, trees,large trucks, or a tunnel.

• Objects are located on the rear shelf.

• Satellites are being repaired or improved.

• After-market glass tinting has been applied tothe vehicle’s rear windshield.

Notice: Do not apply after-market glass tintingto the vehicle’s windows. Glass tinting willinterfere with the system’s ability to receiveGPS signals and cause the system tomalfunction. You might have to replace thewindow to correct the problem. This would notbe covered by your warranty.

Vehicle PositioningAt times, the position of the vehicle on the mapmay be inaccurate due to one or more of thefollowing reasons:

• The road system has changed.

• The vehicle is driving on slippery roadsurfaces such as in sand, gravel, and/or snow.

• The vehicle is traveling on winding roads.

• The vehicle is on a long straight road.

• The vehicle is approaching a tall building or alarge vehicle.

• The surface streets run parallel to a freeway.

• The vehicle has just been transferred by avehicle carrier or a ferry.

• The current position calibration is setincorrectly.

• The vehicle is traveling at high speed.

• The vehicle changes directions more thanonce, or when the vehicle is turning on aturn table in a parking lot.

• The vehicle is entering and/or exiting aparking lot, garage, or a lot with a roof.

• The GPS signal is not received.

• A roof carrier is installed on your vehicle.

• The vehicle is being driven with tire chains.

• The tires are replaced.

• The tire pressure for your tires is incorrect.

• The tires are worn.

• The first time the map DVD is inserted.

• The battery is disconnected for several days.

• The vehicle is driving in heavy traffic wheredriving is at low speeds, and the vehicle isstopped and started repeatedly.

If you experience problems with your system,see your dealer/retailer.

Problems with Route GuidanceInappropriate route guidance may occur under oneor more of the following conditions:

• You have not turned onto the road indicated.

• Route guidance may not be availablewhen using automatic rerouting for the nextright or left turn.

• The route may not be changed when usingautomatic rerouting.

• There is no route guidance when turning at anintersection.

• Plural names of places may be announcedoccasionally.

• It may take a long time to operate automaticrerouting during high-speed driving.

• Automatic rerouting may display a routereturning to the set stopover if you are headingfor a destination without passing through aset stopover.

• The route prohibits the entry of a vehicle dueto a regulation by time or season or anyother regulation which may be given.

• Some routes may not be searched.

• The route to the destination may not beshown if there are new roads, if roadshave recently changed, or if certain roads arenot listed on the map DVD. See OrderingMap DVDs on page 59.

To recalibrate the vehicle’s position on the map,see your dealer/retailer.

Database Coverage ExplanationsCoverage areas vary with respect to the level ofmap detail available for any given area. Someareas will feature greater levels of detail thanothers. Navigation Audio SystemNotice: Before adding any sound equipmentto your vehicle, such as an audio system,CD player, CB radio, mobile telephone,or two-way radio, make sure that it can beadded by checking with your dealer/retailer.Also, check federal rules covering mobile radioand telephone units. If sound equipment canbe added, it is very important to do it properly.Added sound equipment can interfere withthe operation of your vehicle’s engine, radio,or other systems, and even damage them.Your vehicle’s systems can interfere withthe operation of sound equipment that hasbeen added.

Notice: The chime signals related to seatbelts, parking brake, and other functions ofyour vehicle operate through the navigationsystem. If that equipment is replaced oradditional equipment is added to your vehicle,the chimes may not work. Make sure thatreplacement or additional equipment iscompatible with your vehicle before installingit. See “Accessories and Modifications” inthe Index of your vehicle’s owner manual.

Playing the Radio

O / n (Power/Volume): Press this knob toturn the audio system on and off. Turn the knob toincrease or to decrease the volume.

Press and hold this knob for more than twoseconds to turn off the navigation system, theRear Seat Entertainment (RSE) video screen, andRear Seat Audio (RSA). If the vehicle has notbeen tuned off, the RSE and the RSA canbe turned back on by pressing this knob andwill continue play of the last active source.

w (Tuning Knob): Turn this knob to go tothe next or previous frequency or disc trackor chapter. See CD Player on page 71 or DVDPlayer on page 80 for more information.

Finding a Station

If viewing a map screen, touch the source screen(AM, FM, XM, CD, etc.) button. The displaywill split between the audio screen and the mapscreen. All station-changing functions can beperformed from this screen.

If you do not want to view a split screen or youare not on a map screen, press the AUDIOhard key.

AM/FM/XM: Touch the source (AM, FM, or XM,if equipped) screen button or press the AUDIO keyrepeatedly until the desired source is highlighted.

Category: Touch the screen button, located inthe middle of the screen, to receive a list of all ofthe selected band stations in the area. Use theup and down arrow screen buttons to scrollthe frequencies. Touch the desired frequency.

XM lists will also contain a category to selectand the stations or channels that pertain tothe category. For XM, touch the left and right arrowscreen buttons to change categories. The stationinformation will appear on the display.

See “Radio Menu” later in this section to add andremove XM categories from the category list.The categories, when removed, will not be enabledto select from the category list screen or whenusing the right and left arrow category screenbuttons.

FM lists may also contain a category to selectif stations in your area support Radio DataSystems (RDS).

2 Refresh List: Touch this screen button torefresh the list of AM or FM stations.

When viewing a map screen, the name of thestation or channel will appear on the display.

y© ¨ z (Seek): To seek stations, press theup or down arrow keys to go to the next orprevious station.

Storing Radio Station PresetsThis feature allows you to store up to 30 presetstations. You can mix AM, FM, and XM (ifequipped). To store presets, do the following:

1. Press the O (power) knob to turn thesystem on.

2. If viewing a map screen, touch the sourcescreen button, press the AUDIO key, orpress the FAV (favorite) key.

3. Select the band.

4. Seek, scan, or tune to the desired station, toselect the station.

5. Press and hold one of the preset screenbuttons for more than two seconds or untilyou hear a beep.

6. Repeat the steps for each preset.

Sound Menu

e (Sound): Press this key or press the CONFIGkey to access the Sound menu to adjust the treble,midrange, bass, fade, balance, and Digital SignalProcessing (DSP). The system automatically storesaudio adjustment settings as changes are madefor each audio source including AM, FM, XM(if equipped), CD, and AUX.

Setting the Tone

TREBLE: Touch the plus (+) or minus (−) sign toincrease or decrease the treble. If a station isweak or noisy, decrease the treble.

MID (Midrange): Touch the plus (+) or minus (−)sign to increase or decrease the midrange.

BASS: Touch the plus (+) or minus (−) sign toincrease or decrease the bass.

Adjusting the Speakers

L/R (Left/Right) (Balance): To adjust the balancebetween the left and the right speakers, touchand hold the L or R screen buttons.

Front/Rear (Fade): To adjust the fade betweenthe front and the rear speakers, touch and hold theFront or Rear screen buttons.

Digital Signal Processing (DSP)The system has Digital Signal Processing (DSP).DSP is used to provide a choice of four differentlistening experiences. DSP can be used whilelistening to the audio system. Not all DSP modesare available for all source types. The type ofDSP selected is displayed on the status line.

Select from the following DSP settings:

Normal: Select this screen button to adjust theaudio to be in normal mode. DSP will be off.

Surround: Select this screen button to turn onsurround sound listening for a CD, MP3, or a DVDstereo audio source.

Driver: Select this screen button to adjust theaudio to give the driver the best possible soundquality.

Rear: Select this screen button to adjust theaudio to give the rear seat occupants thebest possible sound quality.

2 CH. (Channel): Select this screen button toenhance surround sound.

5.1 CH. (Channel): Select this screen button togive a full affect of surround sound listening.This button is only available when playing DVDvideo and DVD audio discs that support 5.1 audioand the RSA is off.

Bose AudioPilot®

AudioPilot®: If the system has the Bose® soundsystem, it includes Bose AudioPilot® noisecompensation technology.

To use AudioPilot®:

1. Press the CONFIG key to enter the menuscreen, then press the CONFIG keyrepeatedly until Radio is selected or touch theRadio screen button

2. Press the Automatic Volume Control screenbutton to access the AudioPilot® menu.

3. Press the ON screen button.

To turn it off, touch the OFF screen button. Whenon, AudioPilot® continuously adjusts the audiosystem equalization, to compensate forbackground noise, so that your music alwayssounds the same at the set volume level.

This feature is most effective at lower volumesettings where background noise can affect howwell you hear the music being played throughyour vehicle’s audio system. At higher volumesettings, where the music is much louder thanthe background noise, there may be little orno adjustments by AudioPilot®. Remove/Add XM CategoriesTouch the Remove/Add XM Categories screenbutton to remove or add XM categories whenselecting XM categories from the categorylist screen. The list of XM categories will appearon the screen. Use the up and down arrow screenbuttons to scroll through the list. The categoriesto remove will be highlighted and the categories toadd will be dark in color. Touch the categorythat you would like to add or remove. Touch theRestore All Categories screen button to addall categories that have been removed.

Radio Data System (RDS)The audio system has a Radio Data System(RDS). RDS features are available for use only onFM stations that broadcast RDS information.With RDS, the radio can do the following:

• Seek to stations broadcasting the selectedtype of programming

• Receive announcements concerning local andnational emergencies

• Display messages from radio stations

This system relies on receiving specific informationfrom these stations and will only work when theinformation is available. In rare cases, a radiostation may broadcast incorrect information thatwill cause the radio features to work improperly.If this happens, contact the radio station.

The RDS system is always on. When information isbroadcast from the FM station you are listening to,the station name or call letters will be displayed onthe audio screen. RDS may provide a program type(PTY) for current programming and the name of theprogram being broadcasted.

XM™ Satellite Radio ServiceXM™ is a satellite radio service that is based inthe 48 contiguous United States and Canada.XM™ offers a large variety of coast-to-coastchannels including music, news, sports, talk,traffic/weather (U.S. subscribers), and children’sprogramming. XM™ provides digital qualityaudio and text information that includes thechannel name and number, song title, and artistname. A service fee is required in order to receivethe XM™ service. XL (Explicit Language Channels): XL on theradio display, after the channel name, indicatescontent with explicit language. These channels, orany others, can be blocked at a customer’srequest by calling 1-800-852-XMXM (9696).

XM Updating: The encryption code in the receiveris being updated and no action is required.

No XM signal: The vehicle is in a location that isblocking the XM™ signal. When the vehicle ismoved into an open area, the signal should return.

Loading XM: The audio system is processingaudio and text data received. No action is needed.

Channel Off Air: This channel is not currentlyin service.

Channel Unavail: This previously assignedchannel is no longer assigned.

No Artist Info: No artist information is available.The system is working properly.

No Title Info: No song title information isavailable. The system is working properly.

No CAT Info: No category information isavailable. The system is working properly.

Not Found: There are no channels available forthe selected category. The system is workingproperly.

No Information: No text or informationalmessages are available. The system is workingproperly.

XM Theftlocked: The XM™ receiver may havepreviously been in another vehicle. For securitypurposes, XM™ receivers cannot be swappedbetween vehicles. If this message is received afterhaving your vehicle serviced, check with yourdealer/retailer.

XM Radio ID: If tuned to channel 0, this messagewill alternate with the XM™ Radio eight digitradio ID label. This label is needed to activate theservice.

Unknown: If this message is received whentuned to channel 0, there may be a receiver fault.Consult with your dealer/retailer.

Check XM Receiver: If this message does notclear within a short period of time, the receivermay have a fault. Consult with your dealer/retailer.

CD PlayerThe player can be used for CD, MP3, DVD audio,and as a DVD video player. See DVD Playeron page 80 for more information about DVD audioand video.

Six-Disc CD PlayerWhile playing a CD, the navigation system isavailable.

When you insert a CD, the CD tab will display.If you select a DSP setting for the CD, it willbe activated each time you play a CD.

If you turn off the ignition or radio with a CD in theplayer, it will stay in the player. When you turnon the ignition or radio, the CD will start playingwhere it stopped, if it was the last selectedaudio source.

As each new track starts to play, the track numberwill appear on the display.

If playing a CD-R the sound quality may bereduced due to CD-R quality, the method ofrecording, the quality of the music that has beenrecorded, and the way the CD-R has beenhandled. There may be an increase in skipping,

difficulty in finding tracks, and/or difficulty inloading and ejecting. If these problems occur,check the bottom surface of the CD. If the surfaceof the CD is damaged, such as cracked, broken,or scratched, the CD will not play properly. Ifthe surface of the CD is soiled, see “Care ofYour CDs” in the Index of your vehicle’s ownermanual.

If there is no apparent damage, try a knowngood CD.

Notice: If a label is added to a CD, or morethan one CD is inserted into the slot at a time,or an attempt is made to play scratched ordamaged CDs, the CD player could bedamaged. While using the CD player, use onlyCDs in good condition without any label, loadone CD at a time, and keep the CD player andthe loading slot free of foreign materials,liquids, and debris.

Do not add any label to a CD, it could get caughtin the CD player. If a CD is recorded on apersonal computer and a description label isneeded, label the top of the recorded CD with asoft marker.

M (Load): To load one disc, do the following:

1. Press the load hard key and follow the screenmessage displayed.

2. When the system displays “Insert Disc(number)”, insert the disc partway into the slot,label side up. The system will pull it into thefirst available slot and start playing. Thesystem will display the type of disc inserted.

To load multiple discs, do the following:

1. Press and hold the load hard key and followthe screen message displayed.

2. When the system displays “Insert Disc(number)”, insert the disc partway into the slot,label side up. The system will pull it in.

3. Once a disc is loaded, the system will display“Insert Disc (number)” again. Load the nextdisc. Repeat this procedure for each disc.The player takes up to six discs, do not tryto load more than six. The system willnot display the disc types when loading all,until the discs have been read by the system.Once all discs have been inserted, thesystem will start playing the last loaded disc.

Z (Eject): To eject a disc, do the following:

1. Press the eject hard key.

2. The system will display “Ejecting Disc”.Press the DISC screen button to display theDisc Changer screen. Select the disc to eject.If a selection is not made, the system will ejectthe disc from the current slot. If the disc is notremoved from the slot, the system will pull itback in after 10 seconds and start playing it.

r (Rewind): Touch and hold this button torewind quickly through a track selection.

You will hear sound at a reduced volume. Releasethis button to stop rewinding. The display willshow the elapsed time of the track.

[ (Forward): Touch and hold this button to fastforward quickly through a track selection. Youwill hear sound at a reduced volume. Release thisbutton to stop fast forwarding. The display willshow the elapsed time of the track.

y© ¨ z (Seek): To seek tracks, press the uparrow to go to the next track. Press the downarrow to go to the start of the current track, if morethan eight seconds have played. If either arrowis pressed more than once, the player will continuemoving backward or forward through the CD.The sound will mute while seeking.

w (Tuning Knob): Turn this knobcounterclockwise one notch to go to the start ofthe current track, turn it again to go to the previoustrack. Turn this knob clockwise to go to the nexttrack.

When playing an audio CD the rear seat operatorcan power on the RSE video screen and usethe remote control to navigate through the trackson the CD.

Using an MP3 CDMP3 FormatThere are guidelines that must be met, whencreating an MP3 disc. If the guidelines are not metwhen recording a CD-R(W), the CD may notplay. The guidelines are:

• Sampling rate: 16 kHz, 22.05 kHz, 24 kHz,32 kHz, and 44.1 kHz.

• Bit rates supported: 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 80, 96,112, 128, 160, 192, 224, 256, and 320 kbps.

• ID3 tag information is displayed by the radio ifit is available. The radio supports ID3 taginformation v1.0, v1.1, or v2.0. The radio willdisplay a filename, song name, artistname, album name, and directory name.

• Maximum 32 characters, including spaces,in a file or folder name.

• Maximum number of folders is 253 with amaximum hierarchy of eight folders.

• Create a folder structure that makes it easy tofind songs while driving. Organize songs byalbums using one folder for each album.Each folder or album should contain 18 songsor less.

• It is recommended that there is a maximum of192 files on a disc.

• The files can be recorded on a CD-R orCD-RW with a maximum capacity of 700MB.

• DVD with MP3 are not playable on thissystem.

Root DirectoryThe root directory will be treated as a folder. If theroot directory has compressed audio files, thedirectory will be displayed as No Folder or ALL.

Empty Directory or FolderIf a root directory or a folder existssomewhere in the file structure that containsonly folders/subfolders and no compressed filesdirectly beneath them, the player will advance tothe next folder in the file structure that containscompressed audio files and the empty folder willnot be displayed or numbered.

No FolderWhen the CD contains only compressed files,the files will be located under the root folder. Thenext and previous folder functions will have nofunction on a CD that was recorded without foldersor playlists. When displaying the name of thefolder the radio will display No Folder.

Order of PlayPlay will begin from the first track under the rootdirectory. When all tracks from the root directoryhave been played, play will continue from filesaccording to their numerical listing. After playingthe last track from the last folder, play willbegin again at the first track of the first folder orroot directory.

When play enters a new folder, the display will notautomatically show the new folder name. Thenew track name will appear on the display.

File System and NamingThe song name that will display will be the songname that is contained in the ID3 tag. If thesong name is not present in the ID3 tag, thenthe radio will display the file name withoutthe extension (such as .mp3) as the track name.

Track names longer than 32 characters orfour pages will be shortened. The display will notshow parts of words on the last page of textand the extension of the filename will not display.

CD MessagesIf Disc Read Error appears on the display and/orthe CD comes out, it could be for one of thefollowing reasons:

• If a disc was inserted with an invalid orunknown format.

• If the map DVD disc was installed into the CDslot. See “Installing the Map DVD” underMaps on page 18 for more information.

• It is very hot. When the temperature returns tonormal, the CD should play.

• You are driving on a very rough road.When the road becomes smoother, the CDshould play.

• The CD is dirty, scratched, wet, orupside down.

• The air is very humid. If so, wait about anhour and try again.

• There may have been a problem whileburning the CD.

• The label may be caught in the CD player.

If the CD is not playing correctly, for any otherreason, try a known good CD.

If any error occurs repeatedly or if an error cannotbe corrected, contact your dealer/retailer.

DVD PlayerThe player can be used for CD, MP3, DVD audio,and as a DVD video player.

DVD video will not display on the navigation screenunless the vehicle is in PARK (P). It will operate onthe rear seat entertainment screens while thevehicle is moving. The Rear Seat Entertainment(RSE) video screen will start play of the DVD whena DVD video has been inserted into the navigationsystem. The DVD player can be controlled by thebuttons on the navigation system, the Rear SeatAudio (RSA) system, and the remote control. TheDVD player can also be used for the rear seatpassengers with the radio off. The rear seatpassengers can power on the video screen and usethe remote control to navigate the disc. See “RearSeat Entertainment System” in the Index of yourvehicle’s owner manual for more information.

The DVD player is only compatible with DVDs ofthe appropriate region code that is printed onthe jacket of most DVDs.

The DVD slot is compatible with most audio CDs,CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio,DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW media along with MP3and WMA formats.

If playing any compatible DVD-R the sound qualitymay be reduced due to disc quality, the method ofrecording, the quality of the video that has beenrecorded, and the way the disc has been handled.There may be an increase in skipping, difficulty infinding chapters, and/or difficulty in loading andejecting. Playing a DVDThere are three ways to play a DVD:

• Once a DVD is inserted, the system willautomatically start play of the DVD.

• If you are on a map screen, touch the DVDscreen button.

• Press the AUDIO hard key, then touch theDVD screen button.

When a DVD is loaded, the rear seat passengerscan power on the RSE video screen and usethe remote control to navigate through the DVD.

O / 3 (Power/Volume): Press this knobto turn the system on and off. Turn the knob toincrease or decrease the volume of the audiosystem.

Press and hold this knob for more thantwo seconds to turn off the navigation system,RSE video screen, and RSA. If the vehicle hasnot been tuned off, the RSE and the RSA canbe turned back on by pressing this knob and willcontinue play of the last active source.

DVD Menu OptionsOnce a DVD starts to play, the menu options andcursor screen buttons will automatically appear.To display the menu Options screen button while aDVD is playing, touch anywhere on the screen.

Options: Select this screen button to viewthe menu option screen buttons. Menu optionsare available when they are highlighted. Somemenu options are only available when the DVD isnot playing.

Cursor: Touch this button to access the cursormenu. The arrows and other cursor optionsallow you to navigate the DVD menu options.The cursor menu options are only available if aDVD has a menu. Use the cursor menu to start aDVD video from the disc main menu.

q, Q, r, R (Arrow Buttons): Use thesearrow buttons to move around the DVD menu.

Enter: Touch this button to select the highlightedoption.

Return: Touch this button to go back to theprevious DVD menu.

Menu Language: Touch English, Francais,Espanol, Italiano, or Deutsch to change the defaultlanguage of the DVD video menus. The menulanguage must be available on the disc. The menulanguage may vary for each DVD.

Parental Level: Touch this button to change therating level to only allow the play of DVDs with acertain rating. The rating selection is 1 through 8,with 1 Kids Safe being a G rating. If the 1 isselected, any DVD with a rating above G will not beable to be viewed without entering a password.

When the parental level is first entered a keyboardwill appear on the display and a four-digit passwordwill need to be created. Type in a password that youwill be able to remember. Once the password iscreated, you can then select a rating level.

If you would like to change the rating level, pressthe Parental Level button, then press the Passwordbutton. Type in the password and then change therating level.

If the password has been forgotten, contact yourdealer/retailer.

This may not be available on all DVDs.

Aspect: Touch this button to change the aspectratio of the DVD. This may not be availableon all DVDs.

y (Next Track/Chapter): Press this hard key togo to the next track or chapter. This buttonmay not work when the DVD is playing thecopyright information or the previews.

z (Previous Track/Chapter): Press this hardkey to return to the start of the current trackor chapter. Press this button again to go to theprevious track or chapter. This button maynot work when the DVD is playing the copyrightinformation or the previews.

w (Tuning Knob): Turn this knobcounterclockwise one notch to go to the start ofthe current chapter/track, turn it again to go to theprevious chapter/track. Turn this knob clockwiseto go to the next chapter/track.

DVD MessagesIf Disc Read Error appears on the display and/orthe DVD comes out, it could be for one of thefollowing reasons:

• If a disc was inserted with an invalid orunknown format.

• If the disc is not from a correct region.

• If the map DVD disc was installed into theDVD audio/video slot. See “Installing theMap DVD” under Maps on page 18 for moreinformation.

• It is very hot. When the temperature returns tonormal, the DVD should play.

• You are driving on a very rough road. Whenthe road becomes smoother, the DVDshould play.

• The DVD is dirty, scratched, wet, orupside down.

• The air is very humid. If so, wait about anhour and try again.

• There may have been a problem whileburning the DVD.

• The label may be caught in the DVD player.

If the DVD is not playing correctly, for anyother reason, try a known good DVD.

If any error occurs repeatedly or if an error cannotbe corrected, contact your dealer/retailer.

Auxiliary DevicesYour vehicle may have a rear entertainmentsystem (RSE) with a second and third row screen.The RSE has audio adapters to allow you toconnect auxiliary devices. The audio can be heardthrough the speakers or through the wireless orwired headphones. See “Audio/Video Jacks” under“Rear Seat Entertainment System” in the Indexof your vehicle’s owner manual for moreinformation.

Drivers are encouraged to set up any auxiliarydevice while the vehicle is in PARK (P). See“Defensive Driving” in the Index of your vehiclesowner manual for more information on driverdistraction.

To switch the RSE system to use an auxiliarydevice, do the following:

1. Connect the auxiliary device to the RSEsystem, for the second or third row.

2. Press the AUDIO key then press the AUDIOkey repeatedly until AUX (auxiliary) is selectedor touch the AUX screen button. An auxiliarydevice must be connected for the AUXscreen button to appear as an option to select.

3. For the second row display select the RearAUX screen button next to Rear Display 1 andfor the third row display select the Rear AUXscreen button next to Rear Display 2. Eachscreen works independently of the other. Thesecond row screen can watch a DVD while thethird row screen can use the auxiliary device.

The rear seat passengers can also use the remotecontrol to change the functions of the RSE. See“Rear Seat Entertainment System” in the Index ofyour vehicle’s owner manual for more information.

Voice RecognitionThe navigation system’s voice recognition allowsfor hands-free operation of the navigation system,audio system, and OnStar® features. The DVD mapdisc must be installed in the navigation system forvoice recognition to work. See “Installing the DVDMap Disc” under Maps on page 18.

Voice recognition can be used when the ignition ison or when Retained Accessory Power (RAP) isactive. See “Retained Accessory Power (RAP)” inthe Index of your vehicle’s owner manual formore information.

To use voice recognition, do the following:1. Push and hold the

talk symbol steeringwheel controluntil you hear abeep. The audiosystem will mute.

2. Clearly state one of the commands listed onthe following pages.

Helpful Hints for Stating Commands• When a multiple command is available, choose

the command that works best for you.

• Words that are in brackets are optional.For example, for the command Radio [band][select] FM, stating Radio FM or Radioselect FM are both valid commands.

• When the system recognizes the commandthe system will do one of the following:

− Perform the function.− Ask you to confirm your choice.− Issue an error message “Did not

recognize. Voice Recognition Canceled.”

• If the system is not yet ready, the system willdisplay a message.

• To cancel a command or if the systemresponse does not match your verbalcommand, press and hold the talk symbolbutton. The system will reply, “VoiceRecognition Canceled”.

• If you experience difficulty with the systemrecognizing a command, try saying it moresoftly, and wait for a few seconds afterthe beep, or you may just try saying it again.

• Background noise may cause voicecommands to be misunderstood, includingairflow noise from wind.

• To use the voice recognition system, the mapDVD must be loaded and the navigationsystem must be on.

This system is able to recognize commands inthree different languages. The system willonly recognize commands based on the languageselected from the Driver Information Center(DIC). See “Driver Information Center, DIC VehiclePersonalization” in the Index of your vehiclesowner manual.

Voice Recognition CommandsThe following list shows all of the voice commandsavailable for the navigation system with a briefdescription of each. The commands are listed withthe optional words in brackets. To use the voicecommands, refer to the instructions listedpreviously.

Voice Tag CommandsThe following are voice tag commands you canaccess by clearly stating the commands exactly asthey are written. You may have up to 40 voicetag entries for destinations.

Navigation go to [destination], navigationselect: These commands instruct the system toselect a destination saved under the voice tag youhave stored. The system will prompt you for adestination name then wait for you to statethe name.

If you are not currently driving on a route, thesystem will automatically create the voice tagdestination as the final destination. If you arecurrently driving on a route, the system willautomatically create the voice tag destination as astopover. Up to three stopovers can be created.

Storing Voice TagsFrom the address book entry information page,press the Add Voice tag screen button. The systemwill respond “Name Please?” and you will havefour seconds to record a name. The system will askfor confirmation of the name before saving it as avoice tag.

Display CommandsUse the following display commands to set thedisplay mode.

Display [set] day [mode]: Use this command toset the display to daytime mode.

Display [set] night [mode]: Use this commandto set the display to night mode.

Display [set] auto [mode]: Use this command toset the display to automatic mode. The systemwill change between day and night modeautomatically.

System help: This command instructs the systemto assist with display commands.

Radio CommandsThe following are radio commands you canaccess by clearly stating the commands exactly asthey are written.

Radio [band] [select] AM, radio [band] [select]FM, radio [band] [select] XM, radio [band][select] satellite: These commands instruct thesystem to go to either the AM, FM, or XM(if equipped).

Radio [select] (frequency) AM, radio [select](frequency) FM: These commands instructthe system to go to a specific frequency on eitherAM or FM.

Radio [select] (channel) XM, radio [select](channel) satellite: These commands instruct thesystem to go to a specific channel on the XM™band (if equipped).

Thisfeature allows you to call phone numbers that arelisted in your personal address book that is on thenavigation system.
