AUDIBLE SYSTEMAUDIBLE SYSTEM
“CHECK WITH ME” gives us multiple options at the LOS. We will use this call to try to get into thebest play possible at the LOS and can run the play to either side. The QB will call the formation inthe huddle followed by “CHECK WITH ME” and the snap count which will always be on one. At theLOS, after reading the defense or receiving the play from the sideline, the QB will then begin hiscadence using the colors RED (meaning the play will go RIGHT) or BLUE (meaning the play willgo LEFT) followed by the play’s hole and back numbers. When preparing our offensive game plan,we will predetermine which situations we might want to audible out of and which plays we will runwhen utilizing “CHECK WITH ME”.
The example call below tells our offense we’re running 48 TOSS or SWEEP from the formation called in the huddle on one:
332006 TIGERCAT2006 TIGERCAT
OFFENSEOFFENSE
Following the formation call, a running play’s first number indicates which back will carry the ball: (ex. 32 INSIDE) means the FB (3) will receive the ball
The second number indicates the side and hole the play will attack:
All "EVEN" numbered plays go to the right. (ex. 48 TOSS)
All "ODD" numbered plays go to the left. (ex. 45 ISO)
The description following the hole/back numbers tells our o-line which type of blocking will be required:
INSIDE means we will look to “PUSH” down defenders upfield into the defense’s second level(linebackers) by attacking thru their near ear.
ISO, VEER or POWER mean we will “PART THE SEA” by attacking the closest down defender’snear ear and working our feet “into the hole” at the point of attack.
TOSS, SWEEP, KEEP or ROLL tells us to “CIRCLE THE WAGONS” by drop stepping then attackingthe defender’s playside ear.
COUNTER or BOOT plays are often tagged with “G” or “GT” which tells the backside guard and/ortackle to pull and block playside.
TRAP tells the backside guard to pull and trap a playside defensive lineman and alerts the center toblock backside if the guard is covered.
FIRE alerts the o-line that the play includes a pass so they cannot move upfield when blocking.

OFFENSEOFFENSE
Note that all routes run inside (towards the ball)are “even” numbers and the routes run outside(towards either sideline) are designated with “odd”numbers. All receivers must know these routesby number in order for us to throw the football!
The word FIRE anywhere in the play call meansthat a pass will be thrown. Linemen must notmove upfield until the ball has been thrown orthey hear the QB yell GO, GO, GO! indicating thathe is running the ball. Receiver routes for X, Y, Zare represented by three numbers in that orderwith a called route for the RB tagged at the end ifapplicable.
(ex. GUN RIGHT FIRE 648 FB FLAT) tells the:
QB, backs and receivers the play is out of the GUN TE (Y) to line up on the right side of the formationO-Line that they will be pass blocking from the GUNWide Receiver (X) to run a (6) CURL routeTight End (Y) to run a (4) SLICE routeFlanker (Z) to run an (8) POST routeFB to run a FLAT route
