Fast Facts about the Festival

The 2006 Jazz Dialogue Festival will be November 16-18, and will include educational workshops, clinics and concerts for students and jazz lovers from all over the Northwest.

The Festival is in its seventh year — began in 1999 as a one-day event and has expanded to three days.

Middle School/High School/College Ensemble Participants (number of schools): 1999 : 3 2005 : 50

Attendees for evening concerts: 1999: 200 2005: 1,000

Regional school attendance (2005): Oregon: 1 Montana: 2 Idaho: 2 Washington: 45

Past guest artists have included: The Woody Herman Orchestra (2 years) Kurt Elling (vocal) John Fedchock (trombone) Nancy King (vocal) Brian Kynch (trumpet) Gary Versace (piano) Dave Pietro (saxophone) ...and many more!

Supporting the FestivalWhen you give to the EWU Jazz Dialogue Festival you become a partner in our effort to provide students in the Northwest with the opportunity to learn from

international jazz artists in clinics, ensemble critiques, workshops, open rehearsals and master classes. In addition, students have the opportunity not only to learn from and be inspired by great musicians in jazz, but they also get to play alongside the visiting artists.This can be a life-changing

2006 Martin Zyskowski Rhythm Section Award: In keeping with our tradition of honoring EWU faculty emeriti and alumni, the 2006 award will be named after educational legend/percussionist Marty Zyskowski. After 39 years of mentoring hundreds of musicians at EWU, Marty retired in spring 2006, leaving behind a tremendous educational legacy.
