Subject: UPDATE ON AGENT OF LANDLORD LETTERS TO TORONTO POLICE SERVICES (CC:2005-17)
PURPOSE: To provide the Communities Committee with a status report related to the issuance of Agent of Landlord letters to local Toronto Police Services Divisions. RECOMMENDATION: That the Communities Committee receive the report for information. BACKGROUND: On May 25th the Board of Directors requested that regular updates be provided on the Agent of the Landlord Status until such time that all communities have been consulted on the Agent of the Landlord letters to Toronto Police Service, through the Communities Committee. REASON FOR RECOMMENDATION: Community Housing Units continue to meet with their Tenant Councils, Community Safety Committees and tenants related to develop and finalize Community Safety Plans. Within that context communities have reviewed the use of the Agent of Landlord Status letter as a tool for their community. Some communities have issued the letters while others feel that the Agent of Landlord letter is not the best tool for the needs of their community and are employing other safety tools/ approaches to safety. All communities have had the opportunity to make a decision on the use of the Agent of Landlord Status. The attached table highlights decisions made around the issuing of Agent of Landlord Status letters. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: N/A

They were renewed for a 6-month period in January pending consultation with stakeholders that has since taken place. Tenant reps ratified the issuance of the letters in April, and directed us to renew all letters on a year-to-year basis going forward. CHU has a seat on the Board of the Weston Community Police Partnership chaired by Cllr. Nunziata and has enjoyed a very close working relationship with both 12 & 31 Division Community Officers for a number of years.
