    Guidelines for contributors:

    A. Submission of manuscripts:1. All manuscripts should be submitted either to members of the editorial board or to the

    editor Bettina Mann. Please send your manuscript as an electronic file.2. The editors welcome manuscripts in English, German and French.3. The title page with the authors name, full title and subtitles should contain an abstract

    of not more than 200 words.4. The main text body should be in block style.5. The text should be clearly organized with a clear hierarchy of headings and

    subheadings.6. The main title should be in Times New Roman 14 pt, bold. Chapter headings should

    be in Times New Roman 12 pt, bold. All subtitles should be italicized and in TimesNew Roman 12 pt. Title and headlines should be capitalized but only before the firstpunctuation mark.

    7. Pages should be numbered consecutively starting with the title page. Numbers shouldbe in the right hand top corner.

    8. On the title page, the author name (in italics) should contain a footnote with currentinstitutional affiliation of the author and email address. Acknowledgement should alsobe mentioned here.

    9. Articles shall be printed in 1 1/2 space on one side only, with a 3 cm margin on the lefthand and a 2 cm margin on all other sides. Foreign words should be italicized.

    10. References within the text should be cited in the following form: (Meyer 1992: 27,Johnson & Margolin 1990: 245-247, Kennedy et al 1994: 5, Baxter 1982 quoted inKomaroff 1988: 6).

    11. References should be cited using the citation style as:Calvo Prez, Julio (ed.). 2000. Territory. Frankfurt am Main: Vervuert Verlag.Demmer, Josefien, and Han Overman. 2001. Indigenous people conservingthe rainforest? Wageningen: Tropenbos International.King, Viktor. 1996. Sociology. In An Introduction to Southeast Asian Studies

    (eds.) Halib Mohammed and Tim Huxley. London and New York: TaurisPublisher. pp. 148-188.Robotham, D. 1980. Pluralism as an ideology. Social and Economic Studies 29:1, 69-89.

    12. Footnotes should be kept to a minimum and must be numbered consecutivelythroughout the text. Footnotes should be in Times New Roman, 10 pt.

    13. Tables, maps and illustrations should be on a separate page, numbered and withheadings. Please indicate in the text where they should appear.

    14. When referring to websites, the citation should start with http:// Please also indicatethe date you visited the site.

    15. Please note that all manuscripts are submitted to two referees at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology who will give their comments to the author.

    16. Authors are responsible for obtaining permissions from copyright holders forreproducing any illustrations, tables, figures or lengthy quotations previouslypublished elsewhere.

    17. Our Working Paper Series is indexed. Please provide us with up to five keywords forthis purpose.

    18. The Working Paper Series is a preprint series. All rights are left with the author. Theeditors would be grateful to be informed about further publication.

    19. Authors will receive proofs for corrections which have to be returned to the editorswithin 14 days.
