PROPOSAL FOR:

REPLACEMENT OF COMMUNITY MONUMENTS

AABBOOUUTT MMAARRYYNNOOOOKK && TTHHEE MMAARRYYNNOOOOKK HHOOMMEEOOWWNNEERRSS’’ AASSSSOOCCIIAATTIIOONN:: Marynook is a small community of 424 single-family homes located on the south side of Chicago. Marynook was constructed from 1950 to 1954 and is comprised of ranch and split-level homes on approximately 12 city blocks. The Marynook Homeowners’ Association (MHA) is the official governing body of the Marynook community. It is a non-for-profit organization formed in 1955 for the purpose of administering the affairs and interests of the community, all within the framework of the By-Laws & Protective Covenants. Today the MHA continues to actively engage in all aspects of community policies, interests and matters that affect the total community. CCOONNSSTTRRUUCCTTIIOONN:: To commemorate the inception of the MHA in 1955, two handcrafted Marynook identification monuments were erected on Dorchester(1378 E.) and Avalon(1300 E.), at 87th street. The monument at 87th and Dorchester was irreparably damaged and had to be removed. The monument at 87th and Avalon has greatly deteriorated and will also be replaced (reusing whatever materials can be salvaged to help offset the final project cost). Because of the winding type streets and cul-de-sacs unique to Marynook, these monuments not only have significant historical value, but they provide needed community identification. The monuments (see attached dimensions) are made of handcrafted stone. Each monument will be rebuilt to its historically intended construction. The only variations will be that we intend to elevate the monuments approximately 12” and the lettering will be modified to accommodate our budget. This new elevation will allow for permanent landscaping elements and the incorporation of a retention wall for these landscaping elements. We seek lettering that will require less maintenance and provide an elegant overall aesthetic presentation. NOTE: The monuments pedestals are intact. PPRROOPPOOSSEEDD PPRROOCCEESSSSEESS:: Erect replacement construction monuments of same material and dimensions where the

monuments were previously located on the northwest corner of 87th and Dorchester & the northeast corner of 87th and Avalon.

Contact the appropriate companies for service and assure all proper permitting and contractor licensing is in place.

PPRROOJJEECCTT EEXXPPEENNSSEE:: BBIIDDSS

An estimate of the required work is needed to forward your company as a prospective bidder. The cost to obtain the handcrafted construction materials and have a professional bricklayer to compose the final structures at the two above mentioned sites is required. We seek a total for the entire project. Where possible cost should be itemized and clearly labeled. The end of September to the end of October are the proposed project period. Your help is greatly needed, and we thank you in advance for your consideration in helping us achieve and complete our project.
