Dear Friends,

The new year begins with new leadership, as we ordained and installed new ruling

elders and welcomed Larry Stewart as our Children and Youth Ministry

Coordinator. We have four new ruling elders this year, and we’ll soon need to elect

a fifth, as Session has accepted with regret Barb Modrzynski’s resignation due to

her move. This is a time of significant transition!

As we all know, change can be stressful--you can’t run on autopilot when everything is new! But I’ve

been pleased, encouraged, and excited by the way this congregation and Session are navigating the

transition. Here are some things I’ve observed that I want to lift up:

● Recognition and gratitude -- people thanking former chairs and Session members for their

service and reflecting on what the teams did last year

● Care and attention to hand-offs -- outgoing chairs meeting with, training, and supporting

incoming ones

● Staff support -- Linda Bristow equipping new leaders with everything from information to office

keys, and Tom Connelly transitioning to a new accounting software

● Invitation to new ministry -- teams changing up their rosters by inviting new people to join--

and people saying yes

● Openness to new ideas -- willingness to welcome new leadership and try new things (or try

old things in new ways!)

Of course, no transition will be perfect. Please continue to pray for, support, and be patient with our

new leaders as they come aboard. They’re taking their new roles seriously, and are excited about

what’s ahead.

Incoming team leaders are:

Mission: Randy Phillips takes over from Kathy Jarosz

Worship/Music: Marty Sloan replaces Lee Murr

Congregational Life: Allison Mackin takes up the mantle from Jo Salvage

Congregational Care: Fay Mitchell (with Carol Sprague) takes over from Melinda Gallant

Christian Ed: Sarah Magoun stays on as leader, with Kathy East as representative to Session

Table Recruiter: Mary Beth Gilts receives the baton from Cathy Robinson

In addition, we are looking for a new Webmaster to take over for Jim Gilmore, so he can focus his

attention on the Presby Potty Project (see below), and a few new Powerpoint Preparers for worship.

Please prayerfully consider what ministries you might be called to participate in during the coming

year.

A few other things to note in the coming months:

● Confirmation kicked off in February, and will continue through May. Please pray for James

and Nick Beebe, Jackson Grimm, Riley and Logan Kasza, and Dylan Schuh as they explore

their faith together.

● Winter Wednesdays are a drop-in opportunity for quiet reflection in candlelight, with music

from Vinny Sauer. Join us in the sanctuary the third Wednesday of the month (next one is

Feb. 19), immediately following the Table.

● Presby Potty Project is now underway! Jim Gilmore kicked us off with a hilariously

informative presentation, full of just enough toilet humor to push (but not violate) the bounds of

propriety. FMTG stands for FundMeToGo--your chance to contribute to a significant

improvement to our church home. See later in the newsletter for slides from Jim’s

presentation, or ask any member of Stewardship/Finance for more information.

Grace and peace,

Margaret

THERE WILL BE NO CLASSES FEBRUARY 2ND & 4TH !!!

Christian Living in God’s Splendor

We have considered God’s Splendor in the beauty, love and joy of creation and our relationships.

During the month of February, we will continue by exploring God’s Splendor as Cruciform and

Vocational.

To complete the Season of Epiphany on February 23rd and 25th, the topic will be Jesus’ mountain top

encounter with Moses and Elijah before he sets his face toward Jerusalem and we set our faces to the

Season of Lent.

Come join us to see the possibilities! We meet Sundays at 9 in the lower study room or Tuesdays at

10 in the conference room. Study materials are available from Selinda but are not required.

Larry Stewart has been Children and Youth Ministry

Coordinator since January, 2020. Larry has a background in

Youth Ministry from his 18 years of experience at Park Church in

Toledo, first as a teenager growing up in the program and then as

a youth leader and staff trainee. Larry has a passion for mission,

service, and youth ministry, and he loves music and sports–

especially watching, coaching, and playing football. Larry is very

family-oriented; he loves spending time with his mom Sonya

Stewart, grandma Beverly Stewart, girlfriend Addison their four-

legged child Hershey.

PCU FOOD COLLECTION:

For this month it’s Hamburger Helper.

By Marty Sloan

We are excited that the first Winter Wednesday was a great success. It was a quiet, beautiful

time for meditation and reflection with Vinny Sauer offering spiritual and soothing music. If you were

unable to attend, there is another opportunity on February 19 and on March 18, again immediately

following the Table.

On February 23, we celebrate the Transfiguration of the Lord and Lent begins with Ash

Wednesday on February 26, a day we mourn the sin of all humanity before God and recognize our

mortality is saved by the grace of God. Lent is a time of prayer, fasting and self-examination in

preparation for the celebration of the resurrection of the Lord.

As you will remember, last year we honored the season of Lent utilizing the theme of Baptism.

A theme for this year is in the works as we pray for direction and focus during this time of remembering

Jesus’ life, death and resurrection.

Valentine gifts from NOSA!

Don't forget your Valentine this month! NOSA cards

are a great gift. We have a wide variety of nice

restaurants, Starbucks, Books a Million, Bath and

Body Works, donut shops or for the more practical

valentine- gas cards! MaryBeth Gilts will be glad to

assist you after church in Fellowship hall.
