The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities® is to create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well being of children in the Ozarks. Our cornerstone project is the Ronald McDonald House®… providing a “home away from home” for families of seriously ill and injured children hospitalized in Springfield. Since 1988, we’ve provided hope and comfort at our first House near Cox South for more than 9,100 families. On November 30, 2012, we opened Springfield’s second Ronald McDonald House on the 6th floor of Mercy Children’s Hospital and have already welcomed nearly 1,300 families.

The Tooth Truck (our Ronald McDonald Care Mobile®) provides dental treatment, prevention education and a daily tooth-brushing program for at risk children, primarily in school-based settings. We’ve helped more than 19,000 children with 45,000 dental appointments and treatment valued at $10.6 million since July 2002.

The Frank Lloyd Wright style home of Bill & Karen Krittenbrink overlooks the beautiful golf course in the Highland Springs development. Their residence since late 2014, the home was originally designed by local architect, Dan Scott, and was among the first built in Highland Springs. Primarily constructed from glass and native limestone, the Krittenbrinks embarked on an extensive renovation process to fashion their home to their personal style. Among the updates on the lower level is a new office, previously a terrarium. Bill designed the office and partnered with a local cabinet maker to build the custom furnishings. The home features slate floors, granite countertops, and an extensive collection of abstract art. A high tech “broadcast system” was installed, which controls all audio visual functions within the home from one central location. An outdoor water feature with pond has been added to the couple’s back property and Bill is currently focusing on the establishment of a new yard and landscaping. For the holidays, Karen will work closely with Judy Mears of Mears Floral Products and Linda Shaeffer to create a festive holiday atmosphere, complete with hand-crafted Santas by local artist Barbara Dullum and a large nativity for your enjoyment during the Homes Tour.

The old-world style home of Joe and Anne Kofron was built in 2003 and rests on seven acres in East Springfield near the James River. Their home since 2011, Anne, a space planner and interior designer, has decorated their rustic-modern style home from repurposing unusual finds in flea markets. She has an incredible gift of envisioning creative materials as functional pieces. The dining room features a copper ore mine as the base of their table and a French riddling wine rack as a main wall accent. The bar stools surrounding their kitchen were made from old train yard springs Anne found in Arizona. During their kitchen remodel, the Kofron’s added an expansive bar, granite counters, and refinished the alder cabinetry. They also redesigned the cooking area using stone, tile and copper materials. With soft pine floors and two rounded interior walls, one of the couple’s favorite features is that every door in the home is unique. In incorporating the original antique doors used for the butler’s pantry, the Kofron’s added a barn door system so the doors slide to open. Also specializing in art sales, Anne displays the family’s art collection using a museum style hanging method. The outdoor living area features an infinity pool overlooking the family’s back property. Some of Anne’s unique pieces can be found at her booth in the Urban Flea Market here in Springfield.

The traditional home of Eldon & Ida Marie Erwin is located in Fremont Hills. The open floor plan and picturesque setting appealed to the couple who made it their home in 2007. An interior designer, Ida Marie felt the home, which was being built as a spec home, was exactly what they had been looking for. Since purchasing the home, the couple have made a few changes to reflect their personal style. Starting with the kitchen, the couple darkened the finish on the cabinets, adding glass fronts in a few focal areas. They also replaced the counter tops with a more exotic granite and added a double stacked, chiseled edge to the island. The range hood was enhanced with a custom painting of a Spanish villa. This year the couple extended the lower patio area, adding a large berm, flower gardens and an outdoor kitchen. Just above this extension is a screened porch where they enjoy dining during the mild spring and fall months. While the main level features a more traditional decor, the lower level boasts a more rustic lodge style including a stone fireplace and honed granite topped bar area. A gifted photographer, many of Ida Marie's images of nature are displayed throughout their home. The photographs were inspired by their love of the outdoors and have been taken on their many hiking trips. Ida Marie will add an abundance of holiday decor to their home for your enjoyment this holiday season.

Springfield’s first Ronald McDonald House has provided a “home away from home” for over 10,400 families of seriously ill and injured children during the last 27 years. The holiday décor is a group effort from some of the finest decorators in Springfield, as well as the talented Ronald McDonald House volunteers and staff. The common areas and 3 of the 14 bedrooms within the House are available for touring. (Photo by Gayle Babcock, Architectural Imageworks)

The Country French style home of Larry and Brenda Snider is located in the Chesterfield Village development in West Springfield. Built in 2000, the home features arched African mahogany front doors and a slate floor entryway. The front foyer overlooks the couple’s sunken living room, which features 20-foot ceilings and a floor to ceiling rock fireplace with a hand-hewn beam mantel. Vaulted ceilings and rustic beams accentuate the main living area and master suite while a hand-forged wrought-iron railing leads to the upper level guest bedrooms. The kitchen features cherry wood cabinets and granite counter tops. Their formal dining room table will be set especially for the holidays, a part of Brenda’s week-long decorating marathon, traditionally the first week of November. Since 2003, Larry and Brenda have enjoyed decorating their home for the holidays by adding new Christmas trees and decorations to their collection each year. They enjoy working with their friends at Martin’s Floral to create the perfect holiday atmosphere. This year, Larry and Brenda plan to feature fifteen Christmas trees during the Cup O’Cheer Homes Tour, with the lighting for each controlled remotely. Each tree has a unique theme, from a nostalgic themed tree featuring the Polonaise Collection and Ornaments by Christopher Radko to their favorite tree garnished with some of their most treasured memories.
