The tour continues by the sector of Club Hípico. Here you can see one of the most beautiful horse racing tracks in South America. Day 21 Rio de Janeiro City Tour – Christ The RedeemerAfter an early morning hotel pickup, enjoy a tour of Christ the Redeemer at Corcovado. On the way, enjoy views of Copacabana Beach, Botafogo Beach and Palácio Guanabara. Before heading up, you’ll reach Tijuca Forest, stopping at Paineiras to board the vehicles up to Corcovado. The visit to the monument lasts approximately 45 minutes. In case of poor visibility on the summit of Corcovado, you will make an alternative stop at Mirante Dona Marta (362m), generally less affected by cloudiness.

Then, head to Sugarloaf Mountain before continuing to Botafogo Beach towards Praia Vermelha, in the district of Urca, passing by the imposing neo-classical buildings of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, the Institute Benjamin Constant for the blind and the National Institute for Mineral Resources. Board the cable-car and Urca Hill (200m) and Sugarloaf, staying there for around 30 minutes at the top. Afterwards visit the Maracanã Stadium from the outside (stopping at Bellini’s statue for pictures) and then head to the Sambadrome (the stadium for the city’s main Carnival parade).

You’ll then see the Lapa Arches, Lavradio street and Avenida Chile. Visit the cone-shaped Metropolitan Cathedral, not only one of the Brazilian city’s landmarks, but also a masterpiece of modern art. Then, visit the Escadaria Selarón – one of the most fascinating and original staircases in the world. Head to the São Bento Monastery, which has been compared to a museum and has a monastic simplicity making it one of the most beautiful architectural complexes in Brazil.

Tour Guide vs. Tour LeaderTour Guide: Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction in which he or she is guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves the group at the end of the tour, they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader: An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides in each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village, and offer information on the place visited on the bus, however they are not required to have specific knowledge on art, architecture, or history. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when particularly required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

VISAS

ARGENTINAAustralian citizens travelling to Argentina from the 1st of July 2017 onwards will not be required to pay the current reciprocity fee of $100 USD to enter the country. Australian tourists may be eligible to enter Argentina from this date onwards without a visa for visits up to 90 days. Contact the nearest Embassy or Consulate of Argentina for the most up-to-date information.

CHILEAustralian tourists entering Chile through Santiago International Airport are required to pay a “reciprocity fee” of $117 USD (subject to change) payable in cash or credit card prior to going through passport control. PERU (pre-tour extension only)Australian citizens do not require a visa to enter Peru. They need only to hold a valid passport and a return ticket on arrival. They are allowed to stay up to 183 days in Peru.

BRAZIL (post-tour extension only)Prior to arrival in Brazil, Australian tourists must arrange a tourist visa through the Embassy of Brazil in Australia.
