TRENCH WARFARE ACTIVITY

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/worldwarone/hq/trenchwarfare.shtml

This is a thinking game, one that requires strategy and knowledge of battle tactics during

World War I. You will have to complete four missions. For each mission, you will be given a scenario. The scenario provides vital information about the mission; you must read each scenario completely in order to successfully accomplish all four missions. After each scenario, click on the link which states “go to operations room.” In the operations room, you must use your knowledge of the mission and select three weapons that will help you accomplish your goal. Each weapon you click offers background information about how and where it was used in the war (these are very worthwhile reading, if you want to succeed). To select the weapons you want to use click and drag them into the empty box on the screen. Once you have selected three weapons, click “begin mission.” After each mission, you will receive feedback from either a nurse or a high-ranking officer, dependent upon your success. You may move on to the next mission or may have to repeat the previous mission. If you complete all four missions, you will receive a medal of valor and essentially will have beaten the game. Good Luck!

Questions to Think About:

• What types of things did you take into consideration when selecting weapons?

• What were some difficulties you ran into on each mission? • If you failed any of your missions, write down your losses.

(Causalities, land losses, enemy advances, etc.) • How does this game add to your knowledge of trench warfare?
