The Cagayan State University College Admission Test was administered in cognizance to the mandate set by the Universal Access to Free Quality Tertiary Education Act ( RA 10931) of 2016. Republic Act 10931 mandates that State Universities and Colleges must be tuition-free to allow even the poorest of the poor to complete baccalaureate degrees or technical-vocational courses, thereby enabling them to be globally competitive graduates. With the University’s vision and mission, a mechanism to select the best and the neediest students was conceptualized, hence, the College Admission Test.
The CSU-CAT is a three-hundred item test that aims to assess basic competencies along five areas namely: Reading Comprehension, Language Usage, Mathematics, Science and General Information. It was simultaneously administered in the eight campuses of the University on May 20, 2018 and June 22, 2018. The data below shows the results of the CSU-CAT.
Because admission was likewise based on absorptive capacity of the program, examinees who did not meet the cut-off score were admitted to non-board degree programs and to diploma and technical-vocational courses which consequently resulted in the enrolment of 6,192 first year students.
The next schedule for CAT 2019 was set to March 2, 2019. Registration commenced on September 29, 2019 and will end on February 16 and February 25 in Tuguegarao campuses and in the other campuses of the University respectively. As of February 20, 2019, 2:15 pm, registrants totalled to 12,074.

Creation of Anti-Abuse Advocacy Committee LaunchingSeptember 25, 2018
The Anti-Abuse Advocacy Committee was formally launched last September 25, 2018 by President Urdujah Tejada at CSU Andrews Amphitheatre. The AAAC functions to create a truly humane campus and a peaceful environment that is free from all kinds of harrassment and abuse. The launching was graced by university and campus officials, student government advisers and student officials. An advocate of anti-harassment and abuse herself, President Tejada said she never wants anyone, especially from CSU, to experience harrassment of abuse so she was prompted to organize the committee to help fight such social evil in the university. During the launching, VP Father Ranie described instances constituting harassment and abuse. He mentioned that anybody can be victimized physically, emotionally or sexually regardless of gender. Training officer Rachel Miguel, a self-assured PWD, cleverly discussed to the audience what to do when sexually harrassed. CSU Communicator adviser Rhodora Romero also presented the contact details CSUans can dial or click on when they are abused or harassed. The lectures where accompanied by dramatic dance and poetry interpretations. The launching was made successful through the effort of the Gender and Development office through GAD Focal Person Jocelyn Tuscano.

Sen. Cynthia Villar applauds CSU for its Dairy Cattle Center December 06, 2018
December 6, 2018. CSU joined the Department of Agriculture Regional Office 2, Isabela State University and Cagayan Federation of Dairy Cooperatives in hosting the 5th Cagayan Valley Dairy Business Conference and Stakeholders Forum with Senator Cynthia Villar as the Keynote Speaker. In her speech, the senator expressed admiration to CSU for its active participation to strengthen the dairy industry through the Dairy Cattle Research Center at CSU Piat Campus. On the other hand, President Tejada shared how CSU implements a more focused management operation through continuous genetic improvement to sustain the production of dairy animals and milk supply in the community through the university’s technology transfer and commercialization program at the farmer’s level. She said the dairy center at CSU Piat continues to conduct research projects to fully patronize the levelling up activities of the dairy industry in the region. She added that CSU’s direction towards strengthening its niche programs has obtained many opportunities for the dairy industry to intensify its potential for greater productivity and sustainability.

CSU Grotto sparks the campus dream to be an Agro-Ecotourism destination
CSU Grotto and its Story of a New Beginning. One of the remarkable distinctions of CSU-Gonzaga is the Mt. Tabungao. This mountain cradles all the aspirations of the Campus from conception to its established status at present. As Mt. Tabungao soars its peak, CSU-Gonzaga also incessantly harbors and guarantees that learning will always be at its peak proving that education is always for the best, of the best, and by the best.At the heart of Mt. Tabungao is the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. CSU Grotto as it is popularly known was built in 1998 through the concerted efforts of the Student Body Organization of the then CSU Laboratory High School and faculty and staff of CSU-Gonzaga under the administration of the Campus Dean, Dr. Pedro Tugade. Since its establishment, the Grotto, sculptured by the late Mr. Albert Calata, has become a symbol of every Gonzaganian’s Catholic faith. Being a religious community, the people of Gonzaga believe that Gonzaga has always been spared from strong calamities because of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at Mt. Tabungao watching over the municipality with its arms wide-open, guiding and protecting its people. For the fisherfolks of Gonzaga, the grotto of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at CSU is not only a symbol of their strong Catholic faith but also their beacon. It has served as their guiding light on their way home from the ocean after a night of fishing. It is unfortunate to note though that the grotto lost its light for a couple of years. In some informal conversations in the community, some locals of Gonzaga attribute the calamities that Gonzaga has been through recently to the absence of light from the CSU-Grotto which used to be their source of light in the darkness of the night.Looking into this significance of the Sacred Heart of Jesus grotto to the community, plans have been made to reestablish the grotto and develop it into an ecotourism park, which is one of the components of the emerging thrust of CSU-Gonzaga dubbed as 3Fs-Faith, Farm, and Fun. Once it is fully established, the Sacred Heart of Jesus grotto can be a Holy Week destination in the part of the province. As an initial step to this plan, the ceremonial lighting of the grotto was held on October 12, 2018 with the presence of the Chair of the CSU Board of Regents, CHED Commissioner Lilian de las Llagas, University President, Dr. Urdujah A. Tejada and the CSU-Gonzaga community. It was a timely activity especially that Gonzaga was still recovering from the devastation caused by typhoon Ompong. For a Gonzaganian whose high hopes were blown in an instant by the unforgiving winds of the typhoon, the lighting of the grotto of the Sacred Heart of Jesus ignites a new hope; it symbolizes a new beginning. This made the event even more significant as the light coming from the grotto was seen as a symbol of a new life after the ravaging storm.
