Math Facts 2nd graders at Longbranch are required to

progress through basic math facts for both addition and subtraction through the use of math fact quizzes.

2nd graders should be able to answer 50 questions in 3.5 minutes to move onto the next fact

2.Math.Operations & Algebraic Thinking.2 Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.

Math Facts Continued… You can practice by printing practice quizzes

from the Longbranch website. Click on the Students- Longhorn Math, then scroll to the bottom of the page to “Summer Learning Activities- Math Fact Practice”

Bar Models- What? Why? There are 2 types of bar models used to assist

students in solving word problems. In 2nd grade we teach the part-part-whole and

comparison bar models. See the supplemental handout for more information.

2.Math.Operations & Algebraic Thinking.1 Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknown in all positions, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
