:CLEANING

Cleaning dirty non-skid deck coverings

The non-skid deck coverings applied on a large number of boats, such as TBS or Treadmaster, are indeed practical for avoiding slip-ping on board, but very impractical as regards their cleaning whenthe first signs of weathering are seen.YC DECK COVERING CLEANER (DECKSBELAG-CLEANER) is the new and practical cleaner for what have been until now pro-blem areas because of the textured surfaces.The liquid cleaner effectively removes dirt and signs of weathering from down deep in the pores of non-skid deck coverings, without attacking the plastic or adhesive. Wet the surface to be cleaned and, depending on the degree of staining, apply the YC DECK COVERING CLEANER either concentrated or diluted with water. After leaving to act for about 10 minutes, rinse copiously with water while brushing vigorously. Cleaning lightens the colour of the coverings and at the same time they will shine almost like new.

After cleaning we recommend using YC DECK COVERINGRESTORER (DECKSBELAG-RESTORER) as an innovative nanosealant to protect from further staining.

Effective against lime

Good or bad – it's often hard to tell where lime is concerned. Seashells and snail shells are mainly made of lime. It is a pleasure to collect them on the beach, but not to have them on the hull of a boat! Even when the shells are removed the lime rings often remain. Not to mention salt as well as lime deposits and streaks on the freeboard and deck. YC STAIN REMOVER is the new power cleaner from YACHT-CARE and is effective in removing lime and salt traces from GRP, metal and painted surfaces. The concentrate can be diluted for slight or undiluted for severe incrustations. After a short reac-tion time, the cleaner is rinsed off with a sponge and water.

Cleaning grP and varnished surfaces

Dirty and dull GRP and varnished surfaces can be durably cleaned with YC BOAT CLEANER and their shine restored. Even extremely dirty surfaces can be made to shine again from deep down in their pores with YC BOAT CLEANER, which is mixed with water.Moreover, YC BOAT POLISH gives GRP and varnished sur-faces a surface shine that meets the highest requirements. Both products can be applied by machine using the YC LAMBSKIN POLISHING DISC.Application:Remove rough, abrasive dirt particles from the surface. Spread YC BOAT CLEANER on about 0.5 m2 of the surface with a soft damp cloth and polish this film using circular movements. Cleaning by machine using the YC LAMBSKIN POLISHING DISC with bevelled edges can be useful for working on curved surfaces.YC BOAT CLEANER can be mixed with water in order to act for longer on heavily soiled areas. Polish with a clean cloth until a shine is obtained. Subsequent treatment with YC BOAT POLISH will produce a surface shine meeting the highest demands. YC BOAT POLISH is used without adding water. Polish one section after another using circular movements until the shine appears. A lasting protective film can be achieved with the sealant YC BOAT WAX or YC LIQUID HARD WAX.

restoring white and chalky-looking gelcoat surfaces to a high shine

The combined sanding and polishing paste YC REFINISH 1 restores to a high shine matt, weather-beaten gel coat surfaces that have become chalky. All in one operation the very rich paste reduces its degree of roughness as you proceed from 600 to 1200, and polishes the surface after this preparation to an impressively high shine. To protect the surface from going chalky again and for long-lasting preservation we recommend subsequent treatment with YC BOAT WAX.

Application:The paste should preferably be applied by machine with a foam pad. The Yachtcare range includes the YC POLISHINGDISC, suitable for using with YC REFINISH 1.

In order for a nano sealant to produce the desired effect, all traces of former treatments such as wax and polish must have been previously completely removed from the underlying surface.Ordinary cleaners do not generally manage this adequately –NANO CLEANER, on the other hand, removes them thoroughly and without problem.Modern products from nano technology act differently from conventional maintenance products, combining in a completely new way with the underlying surface. In order to be able to remove them, e.g. when new varnishing is required, NANO CLEANER has been developed as a special cleaner which can break down and remove the stable nano coating.

Successfully removing yellowing

YC ANTI YELLOW (ANTI GILB), an effective gel for caring for and cleaning weathered and yellowed gel coated, plastic and varnished surfaces, puts an end to yellow staining. It easily removes the typical yellow staining caused by microorganisms on the bow, at the waterline and on the stern of a boat. The original colour of the surface is restored by treating with YC ANTI YELLOW.

Application:Apply YC ANTI YELLOW to the stained surface and let it act for about 5 minutes, assisting with circular movements using a rag. Then rinse the cleaned area thoroughly and abundantly with fresh water. After cleaning we recommend permanently sealing the surface with YC BOAT WAX or YC LIQUID HARD WAX.

Make your fenders good again!Even what protects must be protected!The owner nourishes and cherishes his boat and its cleanness is dazzling in the sun. But there are still utterly filthy fenders hanging on the sides. There is no need for that any longer. YC FENDER CLEANER (FENDERREINIGER) is a new development especially for PVC fenders. Its special composition cleans difficult and delicate surfaces of tar, grease and other fouling substances. Its extremely active ingredients filter out the dirt particles from deep down.

Application:Spray YC FENDER CLEANER evenly on the surface to be cleaned. Let the cleaner act for about 5 minutes then assist the process using a slightly rough sponge. If very dirty, repeat the cleaning process. Then rinse the fender abundantly with fresh water. To seal the cleaned surface we recommend using YC EASY-TO-CLEAN.Consumption: coverage / depends on the degree of staining.

:POLISHINGEliminate matt areas from plastic surfacesMatt areas (areas of abrasion) on plastic and varnished surfaces can be effectively removed with YC MULTI SHINE .YC MULTI SHINE is a polishing cream made from fine waxes, which can be used by hand or with a machine. The long-lasting wax film protects the surfaces polished from fading.Application:Apply the polishing cream with absorbent cotton or a soft cloth and thoroughly polish the area using circular movements. Remove any residue of the cream with polishing cotton and polish the surface to a shine. YC MULTI SHINE can also be used with the YC LAMBSKIN POLISHING DISC.

Washing and waxing in one operationWash and wax in one go with YC WASH & WAX, a mild washing concentrate that cleans and preserves surfaces all at the same time. For rapid, easy maintenance of all external surfaces and also suitable for regular washing in between times during the season. Simple to use, it even removes stubborn stains. Suitable for use on gel coats, plastic, metals and varnished surfaces. Surfaces treated become water repellent and as a result are not affected by dirt and marks.YC WASH & WAX does not contain solvents, is free of silicone and biologically degradable.Application:First wash the surface to be treated gently with water.YC WASH & WAX can be mixed with fresh or salt water at the rate of 1:50. Clean the surface with a sponge or cloth using circular movements and a little pressure. Dirt and excess cleaner will accumulate on the surface and can be removed by rinsing with water. For very stubborn and deep staining YC WASH & WAX can be used undiluted.

Boat chrome has to shineChrome is a relatively hard metal and withstands abrasion with a polishing paste without damage. The slightly abrasive polishing paste YC CHROME POLISH removes rust, oxidation and corrosion as well as smoothing rough metallic surfaces, such as chrome, stainless steel or bronze. Tarnished and weathered surfaces take on a new shine. It can be used by hand or on large flat areas with a polisher.

Our AdviceDo not use too much chrome polish when applying by hand, as the paste is simply moved back and forth. It is best to use a small amount of paste and repeat the process several times. Then polish the chrome to a high gloss using a soft cotton cloth. Always work with two cotton cloths: One to apply and the other to polish. Small intricate parts are hard to polish, usually the polish is trapped in the recesses. Cotton buds or a soft toothbrush are helpful.

:PROTECTING

Protecting plastic and varnished surfaces

You can achieve a long-lasting protective wax film on plastic and varnished surfaces with YC BOAT WAX and YC LIQUID HARD WAX. Both products, based on the best Brazilian carnauba wax, provide long-term protection due to the UV stabiliser incorporated. To seal for the season we recommend two applications.Surfaces that have previously been treated with YC BOAT CLEANER, YC BOAT POLISH or YC REFINISH 1 should without fail be sealed with YC BOAT WAX and YC LIQUID HARD WAX to achieve long-lasting protection.

Application:Apply YC BOAT WAX and YC LIQUID HARD WAX generouslyto an area 0.5 m2 with a sponge or soft cloth using circular movements. A few minutes later the wax can be polished up by hand. Soft cloths should be used for this. A second coating of wax may be applied after two hours if necessary.

Interior CareThere are many areas in a yacht that have to be protected, maintained and cared for against everyday wear and tear, e.g furniture, bulkheads, doors, panelling, navigation area and control console.

YC SALON-WAX is a UV resistant hard wax of premium quality. It contains Brazilian carnauba and bees wax, as well as walnut oil. It contains no abrasives, fillers or water. The wax is used on untreated wooden surfaces and on worn, old interior painted surfaces. It leaves a pleasant, semi-gloss finish, which enhances the character of the wood.

Sensitive materials like PVC or rubber require careful treatment and only with suitable cleaners and care products. Aggressive solvents or chemicals can damage the surface. Only cotton cloths or soft sponges should be used because fabrics are sensitive to coarse, mechanical abrasion.

Mild cleaning for sensitive surfaces YC RUBBER CLEANER is specially suited for cleaning dinghies made of PVC (Strongan®, Duotex™), rubber or Hypalon®. It removes contaminations, such as oil, grease or water line marks. The spray bottle makes the cleaner easy to apply and effective. After cleaning we recommend long term protective sealing with YC RUBBER SEALER.

So it stays a bright red dinghy!YC RUBBER SEALER is a transparent sealer that cares for and protects dinghies or other objects made of PVC (Strongan®, Duotex™), rubber and Hypalon®. Penetrating moisture otherwise causes wood to rot over time and increasingly lose its stability. The deep waterproofing system from YACHTCARE based on extremely effective penetrating oils is the ideal solution. Soaking the wood with them produces many simultaneous positive effects:

Traditional wood preservationYC BASIC OIL 1 is a colourless deep waterproofing system for saturating wood and wooden boats. The oil penetrates extremely deeply and as it does so, replaces air and moisture in the pores of the wood. It protects the wood from inside out-wards against absorbing moisture and thus prevents the wood rotting and pest infestation. The wood becomes naturally more intensely beautiful through being soaked with the product. Onthe upper works, high shine surface protection can be achieved with YC FINISH OIL 2, while for the quick works, we recom-mend using a permanently elastic, single component primer e.g. YC UNDERWATER PRIMER (UNTERWASSERPRIMER).

YC FINISH OIL 2 is the transparent high shine sealant for subsequent use on deeply waterproofed wood above the waterline. Using it means very minimal time required for care in the following years, as the layers weather evenly and cannot crack and flake like conventional clear varnishes. It prevents typical moisture infiltration.

Moisture barrier for quick worksYC UNDERWATER PRIMER is a permanently elastic, single component chlorine rubber primer for wood and steel quick works. The tiny metal plates in the primer create an imbricate structure.A reliable moisture barrier is thus produced and the underlying surface is protected from rotting or corrosion.At the same time, the product is outstandingly suitable as a barrier primer when redoing the antifouling. Not every a type of antifouling can be directly applied on the old paint, so this primer ensures good adhesion and provides a barrier between the two coats of paint.

:CLEANING & MAINTENANCE

Cleaning and maintaining greying andweather-beaten wood

Cleaning greying wood.Greying wood on teak decks, for example, can be effectively cleaned deep into the pores with YC TEAK DECK CLEANER.The original colour of the wood, that otherwise would only be recovered after strenuous rubbing, is carefully restored.Using the product does not harm the wood or caulking. After cleaning, the wood is radiantly fresh again, clean and bright, and is consequently ideally prepared for further treatment e.g. with YC TEAK OIL (TEAK ÖL).

Application:Moisten the wood surface with water and apply the cleaner. Work the cleaner into the surface with a brush and leave it to act for about 10 minutes. Then rinse thoroughly with water – and it‘s done.

Wood care

YC TEAK OIL is a colourless maintenance oil that penetrates well into the wood and prevents it going grey again after clean-ing. The oil does not form a film on the surface and non-skid safety on surfaces subject to constant tread is maintained.Simple to use:Apply the oil with a clean cloth or a brush until the wood can absorb no more oil. Wipe away excess oil immediately and thoroughly.

Sealing surfaces without yellowing

YC G8-SUPER is a hard-wearing, single component poly- urethane varnish that will not yellow and can be used for a great many purposes.On external wood surfaces YC G8-SUPER provides long-lasting protection as a UV stable, clear varnish and prevents moisture penetrating into the wood. It is extremely weather-proof and its long-lasting brilliant shine is outstanding.Laminates and coatings of epoxy resin and epoxy top coat also tend to yellow gradually and need to be sealed, especially on the outside of the boat, against UV light.Coating with YC G8-SUPER is an effective solution for this purpose.

:PROTECTING & PRESERVING

Protecting metal from rust and preserving it

Rust – who isn‘t aware of this problem? It arises almost everywhere in our environ-ment where iron, steel and many other metals are used. Do not be satisfied with minor cosmetic repairs for the rust will continue to eat away under the surface. Remove the source of nutrition from the rust right from the start and you will get the corrosion under control.

YC RUST SEALANTApplication:As a sealant for existing areas of rust. Prevents further rusting. Remove rust from surface by hand and brush away loose particles.Drying time: paint over after 45-90 min. with YC RUST PRIMER (ROSTPRIMER) or HEMPEL LIGHT PRIMER (for areas constantly sprayed with or under water).

YC RUST PRIMERApplication:Primer to follow sealing with YC RUST SEALANT. Primer for most commercially available single component deck varnishes. Not suitable for areas constantly sprayed with or under water.Two coats are recommended.

Anti-corrosion protection for steel and cast keels:

To protect metal quick works from corrosion, the surface is first treated with YC RUST SEALANT, once the rust has been removed by hand. Then, on the quick works, YC RUST PRIMER is replaced by the 2 component HEMPEL LIGHT PRIMER or by HEMPEL LIGHT PRIMER combined with HIGH PROTECT. These epoxy primers are applied at the thickness necessary, at least 350 μm in order to achieve anti-corrosion protection. Detailed information on this subject can be found in our technical information “Anti-corrosion protection for steel & cast keels” and in the HEMPEL manual. If the metal keel is sand-blasted and is metallically pure according to SA 2 1/2, we recommend applying HEMPEL LIGHT PRIMER directly, immediately after sandblasting, to a thickness of at least 350 μm, to protect from corrosion. You will find the detailed specifications in the HEMPEL manual.

:REPAIRS

repairing cracked gel coat on deck

Isolated cracks in the gel coat in places not constantly sprayed with or under water can be quickly and lastingly filled with YC FEW FINE FILLER (FEW FEINSPACHTEL). This white polyester filler still hardens reliably even at +5°C and can be sanded very soon afterwards.

Application:The crack in the gel coat is first widened along its whole length to approx. three to five millimetres by sanding with the edge of a chock covered with sandpaper and deepened as far as the (dark) laminate. The new edges should slope only gently upwards. Once cleaned of dust, the deepened cracks are well filled to the edges with YC FINE FILLER + BPO hardener and covered with Hostaphan® film. This produces a smooth surface adapted to the contour of the wall. After ten minutes the film is removed, and the surface sanded and varnished.

yC hAIrLINE CrACK FILLEr

We all know the problem of tiny, very fine hairline cracks that often spread like a spider‘s web across the gel coat. Ordinary repair products cannot penetrate into these micro cracks and just stay on the edges. But moisture and water are good at producing them and over time, will damage the laminate under the gel coat. Until now every crack had to be enlarged by sanding and then filled again with gel coat, a very expensive and time-consuming process.Once again there is now a practical solution from YACHTCARE: YC GEL COAT HAIRLINE CRACK FILLER (HAARRISS FILLER), a liquid, transparent sealant for microfine hairline cracks in the gel coat. It prevents harmful penetration of moisture into the laminate and saves on arduous sanding and expensive repair of damagedareas. Sticks hairline cracks together forming a bridge due to its excellent adhesion properties.However, it can only temporarily replace really removing the problem where breaks in gel coat or laminate have been caused by it being constructed with an undersized laminate or too great a strain in the area damaged.

When there are scratches, grazes or chipping in the gel coat, the seemingly dark glass resin layer must be protected again with gel coat (overlay resin) against water entering, so that its strength is not diminished over the course of time. This is where our YC GEL COAT REPAIR SET (GEL COAT-REPARATUR- SET) can help you.

Application:Take out the amount of gel coat necessary (all gel coat colours can be mixed with each other and tinted with the six PUR tinting pastes). Slowly and thoroughly, so that no air is incorporated, mix one to three grams of hardener to every 100 g of gel coat (at 20°C use two grams, at 16°C three grams) corresponding to one to three percent by weight or volume. With a spatula or brush, apply enough repair substance to the damaged area so that the Hostaphan® film used to cover it is slightly proud. Fix the film all around with the adhesive film included and smooth as flat as possible. Support the film with a piece of cardboard of the same size. Fix the supporting card with adhesive film to the hull. Remove the “plaster” after about two hours and carefully sand the site of the repair. To do this, begin with grade 220 sandpaper and gradually use finer grades until finishing off with grade 600. Gently heat repair sites below the waterline with a fan heater or hot air ventilator so as to induce thorough hardening.

:FILLINGFiller for quick worksYC NAUTIC FILLER is a special filler for the quick works of GRP yachts. It is very water resistant, to a degree better than average, and is used to fill scratches and treat unevenness, by applying in layers up to a millimetre thick (fine layering).The contact surfaces must be clean, rough, free of grease and sound. Blend a quantity of YC NAUTIC FILLER (about the size of a hen‘s egg) with two to three centimetres of BPO hardener paste (the thickness of a squeeze of toothpaste). To achieve better contouring, the filler should be covered while still flexible where applied with Hostaphan® film. The filled surface is nexttreated with coarser, then with finer wet sand paper (grade 400 to 600).Coat with polyester based YC NAUTIC FINISHING VARNISHor HEMPEL yacht paint.

reinforcing grPIf a glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP) surface has to be strengthened, it should be lined with a glass fibre mat and if necessary, topped with a cardboard half tube or a plywood batten to provide a profile and strength. This core is then covered with one or two pieces of mat. Thoroughly sand GRP surfaces to completely remove the finishing varnish that will often have contained wax. Use cleaning agents to produce a totally dust-free surface. Tear off a piece of mat and apply the polyester laminating resin + MEKP hardener. For areas under greater strain and those constantly sprayed with or under water, we recommend you use YC i25B. For normal require-ments and areas subject to weathering, YC AZUR will be adequate. For 50 cm x 10 cm glass mat: 100 g (= 15 mm filling height in the mixing cup) polyester resin + 2 g (= 2 ml) MEKP hardener. For 50 cm x 25 cm glass mat: 250 g (= 35 mm filling height in the mixing cup) polyester resin + 5 g (= 5 ml) MEKP hardener. Wet the contact surface with resin + hardener, lay the mat on it, use the brush to dab it down squeezing out air bubbles until no more light coloured areas (entrapped air) can be seen in the mat. After about an hour, fix the reinforced part with filler then cover with the second piece of mat in the same way. Sand the hardened matting smooth with coarse sandpaper and if necessary, seal it.

:LAMINATINGLaminating wooden boats

“Always a hand’s breadth of water under the keel.” Many owners of old wooden boats may complete this water sports greeting in a resigned way with “and always a hand’s breadth of water in the bilges”. Water often makes survival difficult for old wooden hulls and also leads to an unhealthy, clammy atmosphere below deck.The annual costs of repair and the effort involved then lead to the boat prematurely becoming a wreck.However, most boats can be saved by laminating with polyester and glass mat, and this is true, as has be shown in practice, for wooden boats over 60 years old. Even yachts such as these can become watertight and clearly easier to maintain by expertly applying an artificial skin. This increases the life expectancy, because the annual swelling and contracting does not occur. 50 years’ experience have resulted in methods and materials proven in practice.

Fixing grP on wood and metal

YC G4 WOOD PRIMER makes it possible to fix glass fibre reinforced plastic extremely firmly to wood and metal. When correctly done, adhesion is so good that when forcibly separated the breakage occurs within the lamination or within the laminated material.Apply YC G4 WOOD PRIMER to wood and metal surfaces with a brush or roller and laminate within half an hour to four hours with resin + hardener and glass mat. YC G4 WOOD PRIMER is applied to wood completely free of varnish or to the thoroughly sanded sheet metal. It can be covered after a minimum of half an hour and a maximum of four hours with glass fibre polyester laminate, and painted at the earliest after six hours with other paints. If several coats of YC G4 WOOD PRIMER are to be applied, this can be done within 12 hours without sanding.

Application:Sand to remove all layers of paint etc. Let the wood dry in winter storage. Fill all gaps and sharp corners. Apply bonding agent YC G4 WOOD PRIMER. Coat the entire surface with YC I 25 B LAMINATING RESIN (incl. hardener) and glass mat. Sand the surfaces. Apply YC I 25 B LAMINATING RESIN (coloured). Apply YC NAUTIC FINISHING VARNISH (coloured). The laminated boat will now keep its value and maintenance will be easier, which compensates the owner for the time and effort involved.

:ATTACHING FIXTURESAttaching fixtures to grPItems to be attached that take a lot of strain, such as reinforce-ments under cleats, can be firmly fixed to the inner side of the GRP. Doing so is easy with YC POLYGLASS REPAIR PACK (POLYGLAS REPARATURPACKUNG). Using YC G4 WOOD PRIMER as a bonding agent produces a very good bond between wood and plastic.Application:Sand the GRP base thoroughly to remove the finishing varnish that contained wax. Allow a radius of at least 1 cm around the part to be attached or strip of wood (waterproof plywood) at corners. Treat wooden parts in contact with the new laminate with YC G4 WOOD PRIMER. After half an hour put the part to be attached in position with YC V-11 FIBRE FILLER (FASER-SPACHTEL) and form a shape like concave coving all around where it touches the GRP wall. Take a piece of mat that is 10 cm larger all round and cover over the reinforcement with the mat, resin + hardener. Sand the mat surface smooth with coarse sandpaper and if necessary, seal it.

repairing breaking off laminated partsFixtures taking less strain, such as small lockers, are solidly attached with YC V-11 FIBRE FILLER to the inner side of the GRP or are screwed to strips of wood fixed with YC V-11 FIBRE FILLER. Using YC G4 WOOD PRIMER as a bonding agent also produces a very good bond here between wood and newly to be applied plastic. Fix attachment parts taking a lot of strain with a layer of glass fibre mat (see above).YC V-11 FIBRE FILLER can be used as an adhesive or filler forminor laminate damage where the parts involved take only littlestrain.Application:Sand the GRP base thoroughly to remove the finishing varnish that contained wax. Allow a radius of at least 1 cm around the part to be attached or strip of wood (waterproof plywood) at corners. Treat wooden parts in the contact area with YC G4 WOOD PRIMER. After half an hour put the part to be attached in position with YC V-11 FIBRE FILLER (FASERSPACHTEL) and form a shape like concave coving all around where it touches the GRP wall. Minor laminate damage in the area not sprayed with or under water can be sanded clean with grade 40 paper, filled with YC V-11 FIBRE FILLER, sanded again after about 30 minutes and as appropriate, coated with YC NAUTIC FINISH-ING VARNISH + hardener or polyurethane varnish.

:REPAIRSrepairing leaks

If the outer skin of a boat cracks, waterproofing can be under-taken from the inside (if inaccessible, even from the outside) using our product YC POLYGLASS REPAIR PACK. If need be, the boat can be back in use with care an hour after performing the repair.At the next opportunity, the repair is then repeated with suitableboat building resin such as YC i25B.Application:For a width of at least 10 cm on both sides all along the crack (for any further glass fibre layer, 5 cm wider) the GRP wall is tapered, as for a mounting, towards the crack (slope 1:10). Strips of glass mat are laid on the cleaned surface, first of all a 10 cm wide piece, then a 15 cm wide piece etc. until the reinforcing laminate is 10% thicker than the original wall. The final layer of mat is sanded. The crack is then sanded from the outside in a concave shape, lined with two pieces of mat reaching as far as the sound area, covered with a coat of polyester resin then, 20 minutes later, with filler.

YC EASY EPOXY is a similarly indispensable assistant when underway. Twist off the required amount from the strand, knead well with your hand for about 2 minutes and then apply directly to the place needing repair. Can also be used for repairs below the waterline, in which case maintain the pressure for a few minutes. To avoid it adhering to your fingers, a piece of film should be laid over the site of the repair. YC EASY EPOXY sticks to the widest variety of bases such as metal, GRP, wood and numerous plastic materials and can be further treated after only 30 minutes.

Simpler than welding and soldering

No matter what cracks, splits, leaks or breaks – it can be quicklyrepaired with YC STEEL BOND (HAFTSTAHL). Using the dual component epoxide base repair filler is as simple as using any filler and after it is cured the material can be treated like metal.Areas of use:> Filling and bunging up holes, cracks, cavities and places that leak.> Bonding similar and dissimilar materials together e.g. metal, wood.> YC STEEL BOND is extremely hard, of great compressive strength, resistant to temperature, contains no solvents and makes it possible to produce unstressed repairs without cracks owing to the extremely slight shrinkage in volume.

Many parts of the boat are made of chemical substances that the layman cannot identify. The generic term ‚plastic‘ is no use if you have to repair such a substance. :FILLING & STICKINGFilling parts made of woodBroken wooden parts or places in the wood that have been drilled out are filled with a “plastic wood” made of YC G4 WOOD PRIMER and not too fine, dry wood shavings.In spite of its brownish transparent colour, YC G4 WOOD PRI-MER can also be used as a wood varnish. It has good abrasion and scratch resistance.

Application:Obtain shavings of the original wood. Clear out the damaged area until reaching sound surfaces all around. Saturate this area with YC G4 WOOD PRIMER. Make a not too liquid blend of YC G4 WOOD PRIMER and shavings and put it in layers into the damaged area and allow to solidify. Let it harden for at least 24 hours, then sand. When used with shavings the repair mix may be slightly porous.Varnish with YC G4 WOOD PRIMER and powder with wood flour. This will produce a sealed surface.YC G4 WOOD PRIMER can also be used as a wood varnish, if need be. Adding PUR thinner can have a positive effect on its penetration. The final coat is applied undiluted. With intervals between coats of 6 to 12 hours there is no need to sand, but this is advisable for a smoother surface. YC G4 WOOD PRIMER is perfectly dry after about four hours.

high-strength caulkingYC SUPER-EPOXY bonds wood, stone, metal, glass, GRP and ceramics and at room temperature is very strong after only a short period of time. YC SUPER-EPOXY sticks parts together without pressure, simply and reliably and so that they are water-proof. YC SUPER-EPOXY is an adhesive with two components which are mixed together in equal volumes.Application:Open the first tube and squeeze out a strand onto a piece of cardboard, then close the tube. From the second tube, squeezeout a similar length strand onto the card alongside the first. Mix the two together thoroughly and apply to both the cleaned sur-faces. Place the parts to be stuck in the desired position and if necessary apply slight pressure. The parts will be stuck together after 10 minutes. The stuck part can be put under strain after only half an hour.

Flexibly sticking and making waterproof - PULeaks can become sources of permanent occupation on board. A good adhesive and sealing compound must therefore bond very strongly to the sides (possibly assisted by YC UNIFLEX PRIMER-S on materials taking up water), remain constantly elastic over a long time and possess high ultimate elongation. It must be impermeable to seawater, able to be varnished or painted and be further treated with a “wet finger” (here provided with a protective glove) after a short time. All these requirements are fulfilled in YC UNIFLEX PU in black and white, a single com-ponent polyurethane that bonds with moisture.

Application:Thoroughly clean, and if necessary roughen sides or surfaces to be stuck. To avoid adhesion to three sides, for wider gaps the third side, which has no tensile loading, is masked with adhesivetape. Clean and degrease plastic surfaces, apply a strand of YC UNIFLEX PU, leave briefly to harden and shape with a tool wetted with water (finger with protective glove). Mask neigh-bouring surfaces as necessary with adhesive tape. Let excess material harden well, carefully run a knife along the outer edge (of the window frame) and pull off the superfluous material in one piece.

Elastic bonding and sealing - MSYC UNIFLEX-MS is a permanently elastic, universally applicable single component seam sealer based on poly-oxy-propylene (POP) for many metals (sheet metal, steel, galvanised steel, stainless steel, aluminium), painted and primed surfaces, as well as wood, glass and many plastics. YC UNIFLEX-MS is weather and salt water resistant, as well as temperature stable from –40 °C to +80 °C (for short periods to +120 °C). YC UNIFLEX-MS has very good UV, aging and weathering resistance. The sealing compound dries in contact with air humidity and is silicone/isocyanate free.

Application:The surface must be clean, dry and grease free. It can be used between temperatures from +5 °C to +30 °C. YC UNIFLEX-MS can be painted immediately with paints, i.e. wet-on-wet (from experience within 2 hours). Areas of application: Ships and boats, bodywork, vehicles and containers, as well as metalwor-king, air-conditioning and ventilation engineering. It is applied with a normal caulking gun for use with cartridges.

yC POLygLASS rEPAIr PACKFor rapid repair of damage to or leaks in GRP components. Available in 3 different pack sizes. The site of the repair should be covered with a filler so as to obtain a non tacky surface. Not suitable in the long-term for parts constantly sprayed with or under water, but good for emergency repairs until replaced later e.g. by YC I 25 B LAMINATING RESIN. The repair kit consists of a rapid hardening polyester resin (hardens with 3% BPO hardener) and a glass mat that produces a layer approx. 1 mm thick per operation. The Yachtcare Gel Coat Hairline Crack Filler sticks cracks together, forming a bridge, due to its excellent adhesive properties. You save on arduous sanding and expensive repair of damaged areas.
