Malnutrition

• Due to eating an unbalanced diet in which: -certain class of food are deficient or -certain class of food is in the wrong proportion

• Examples:Kwashiorkor : lack of carbohydratesMarasmus : lack of proteinAnaemia : Iron deficiencyGoitre : Iodine deficiencyScurvy : Vit C deficiencyNight Blindness : Vit A deficiency

Obesity• When a person is 20% or more above the recommended weight for

their height• Due to overeating• Can be prevented by controlling the quantity and the type of food

eaten daily• Health problems associated with obesity:

-high blood pressure-coronary heart disease-diabetes-certain types of cancer-hernias-varicose veins-gallstones

Anorexia

• Potentially fatal eating disorder that involves the loss of appetite or desire for food

• Common in female• Can be cured through psychotherapy• Symptoms:

-muscle wasting-intense fear of getting fat-cease of menstrual cycle-sterility
