2 Day Equipping Event with Bart Schuchts of the John Paul II Healing Center Friday, May 24, 6:30 PM - 9 PM Saturday, May 25, 9 AM - 4 PM Immaculata Center - Fusilier Auditorium 1408 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, LA God is equipping His Church to live more fully into the powerful Mission of Jesus Christ, and He invited you to be a part of it! Jesus tells us in John 14:12: “He who believes in Me will do the things that I have done…” That is quite a bold statement! Think about that for a minute. What did Jesus do? The Catechism of the Catholic Church says it this way: “By Confirmation Christians, that is, those who are anointed, share more completely in the mission of Jesus Christ and the fullness of the Holy Spirit with which he is filled…” (CCC 1294) Jesus invited us all into His mission. Come be equipped to live more fully into all that Christ has purchased. This two-day training, presented by Bart Schuchts, is designed to equip and prepare you to live more fully into the mission of Christ. During this dynamic training, you will be inspired to live into God’s Kingdom purpose, encounter the Father’s love, be empowered to live more fully into the graces of Confirmation, learn to hear His Voice, and learn to pray for physical healing. Teaching will be augmented by interactive exercises throughout the day. FROM OUR LIAISON – Fr. Mark Miley Happy Easter, brothers and sisters! As your liaison, I would like to take this opportunity to remind each everyone of us that the Gospel of Matthew 17:20, “faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains.” Just as one ember can start a raging fire, the Holy Spirit can ignite the flames of our heart to create a raging fire within us. This is the fire of renewal. May the flame of love from the Holy Spirit continue to spark and ignite the embers within your hearts to feed the raging fire of the Renewal! Come Holy Spirit! Fr Mark

I CALL YOU FRIENDS

by Mother John Marie Stewart (deceased), Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ

We have been invited by the Holy Spirit into a relationship with God which is a foretaste of heaven itself,

and at the same time a reflection of what it must have been like to actually live with Jesus. We have

through our openness to the fullness of life in the Spirit, entered into the splendor of friendship with our

Redeemer, and Sanctifier.

When Jesus told His disciples that He no longer considered them servants but friends (Jn 15:14-15), He was offering them access to a relationship previously known only to such giants of the faith as Abraham and Moses (see, 2 Cor 20:7 and Ex 33:11). These were men who had walked and talked with God in deepest intimacy. Jesus made known to His disciples all that He heard from the Father. He had taught and explained everything to them as a master teaches His disciples, revealing the secrets of the Kingdom of God. He had drawn them into intimate community and trained them in the discipleship of love. He had entered into a personal relationship with them through His humanity and taught them how to love one another. Then in revealing the depths of His love he had formed in them, He said to them, “No longer do I call you servants…but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from the Father, I have made known to you” (Jn 15:15. RSV). . . . . . . . .continued on page 4

“I Called You Friends” . . . continued from page 3

.. . .It was not until the coming of the Holy Spirit that they really understood the intimacy of this friendship with God which they had experienced during Jesus’ earthly ministry. They had eaten with Him, listened to Him directly teaching them the things of God, watched Him heal the sick and raise the dead. They had themselves been empowered by Him to do many miracles—yet they seemed to only dimly perceive the reality of who they were in relation to God, perhaps perceived only dimly who Jesus Himself was until His Resurrection and the coming of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit enabled them to see beyond the limitations of the flesh– and—blood humanity of Jesus, to recognize Him as both Lord and Messiah (Acts 2:36), the True Vine (Jn 15:1), the Bread of Life (Jn 6:35), the Way, the Truth and the Life (Jn 14:6), the Great I AM (Jn 9:58). In the Spirit, Paul, who had never seen Jesus, came to recognize Him as the: “image of the invisible God” and the Head of the Body of Believers, the Church (Eph 4:11-16). We like Paul, have been taught by the Spirit that Jesus is Lord (1 Cor 12:3; Phil 2:11) and we know Him as Savior and Redeemer.

Mother John Marie Stewart, DLJC, foundress of the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, A Franciscan Charismatic Religious Community in the Diocese of Amarillo TX, died May 26, 2018. In February 1969, two years after the Duquesne weekend –the beginning of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in the United States. – Mother received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. She served the Renewal as a member of the National Service Committee. www.nsc-chariscenter.org/article/mother-john-marie/ …She had picked up the banner of the New Pentecost and preached it whenever she had the opportunity. Once when we were talking with some friends after Mass a woman came up to her saying, “You had better watch out for those ‘Charismatics.’ You know, they speak in tongues.” Without batting an eye, she turned to her and said, “You had better apologize to the Third Person of the Trinity! Don’t you know, he is the one who gives the gift of tongues.”

John Listi’s Easter story . . . As a child my parents made such a big deal out of Easter. They even had my siblings and I re-enact the scene at

the tomb on Easter Sunday morning. My sisters would be Mary Magdalen and the other women who approached the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body with perfumed oils, my bother would be the angel who announced the resurrection, my dad would play Peter who runs to the tomb to see for himself that it is empty, and I got to play Jesus, the risen Lord. I would lay out on the sofa with a huge pillow in place as the stone which my brother would swoop in and roll away as my dad provided the sound effects of a large stone rolling away. My brother would then tell my sisters, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here He is RISEN!” Praise God, He is Risen indeed! We did this little Easter play every Easter Sunday until I was in High School. Admittedly, it started to feel pretty cheesy to be re-enacting the Easter story as a teenager, but in hindsight, I cherish every moment!

“Open up the Heavens Open up the Floodgates A mighty river

Flowing from your heart - Filling every part of our praise”! Yes, Lord, open up the financial floodgates for us!

LOVE OFFERINGS and PLEDGES of Financial Support . . .

“Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby

put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you

and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.” Malachi 3:10

The Catholic Charismatic Renewal Office for the Diocese of Lafayette relies totally on the donations and pledges of the faithful! We receive no funding from the Diocese and our events are usually free of charge with only a love offering collected. In this day and age, we cannot expect our staff to labor without wages, and we should be ready to provide for the needs of the CCR Office. It is right and just that we bring our tithe to the storehouse (the ‘house’ where we are fed). If we trust in the Lord and do our share financially, He will open the windows of heaven and pour out blessings upon the fruits of the Renewal for the benefit of the whole Church. PLEASE PRAY AND DISCERN HOW THE HOLY SPIRIT MIGHT BE PROMPTING YOU TO HELP SUPPORT THE CATHOLIC CHARISMATIC RENEWAL WITH A FINANCIAL COMMITMENT !

“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together,

running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be

measured back to you.” Luke 6:38

A coupon booklet for your pledges will be mailed to you to help you remember your commitment. Tear Off Here and mail in to Charismatic Renewal, 1408 Carmel Drive, Lafayette LA 70501
