Pella Motors is a 100 percent locally-and family-owned business since 2014. You
might have known Pella Motors as Jensen’s Auto Center. Today’s inventory boasts
domestic new and used Buicks, Chevys, Chryslers, Dodges, GMCs, Jeeps, and Rams as
well as certified pre-owned autos. Pella Motors is located at 604 E. Oskaloosa St. in
Pella. The new website www.pellamotors.com touts its inventory and provides you
options to look from home.
“All of us at Pella Motors are passionate about cars,” said owner Craig Ford. “My
family and I are jeep enthusiasts and we take our jeeps where there are no roads. While
Marv DeBeouf loves the Chevy and GM brands. We are car people.”
Previously coming to Pella, Craig searched for what he wanted to do but was unsure
after high school. He knew he loved his country, wanted to learn, so decided at age 18
that the military might give him time and focus to consider this. While in the Army and
stationed in Germany, he learned that team building, structure, integrity, being honest,
and hard work were important to serving others. After leaving the military he received
his post high school education at Ellsworth Community College and Wartburg College.
Craig and his wife Scarlet came to Pella 7 years ago and have 5 children of their own
and also do foster care for the state. Four of their five children attend Pella Christian and
one is still home. They are active members of the community. Craig believes that if you
have a strong community then the country is stronger as a whole. “We are involved in
many community events including Knoxville Raceway, Tulip Time, many sports leagues,
and Coaches versus Cancer.”
A theme in many of these involves moving vehicles. For Tulip Time, Craig decided
that a Wooden Shoe Train for little kids to ride would be unique. Having found some
giant old trees he hired a chainsaw artist around Floyd, Iowa. Then after the artist carved
the shoes Craig had them trucked to Pella where several farmers hollowed out the shoes.
LD&J Manufacturing built the trailer, “…making it a dream to drive” and local artist
Darlene Walinga painted each shoe in traditional Dutch style. “To see the delight in each
child who rides in a wooden shoe is worth building a stronger community.” Although
coming to experience the train personally is most fun, you can view it at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMyK1KGyXiU
Besides selling autos, Pella Motors is also known for servicing cars both locally and
beyond Pella. “Our car service is phenomenal. Customers say, ‘You fix what others
can’t.’ We get new customers from word of mouth and from repair shops and dealers
who can’t solve an illusive challenge. When you love cars you love working on them
too. We have farm kids that learned and love to fix challenges. It’s not a competency that
can be taught because it’s an innate talent and our customers love the results.”
Pella Motors is about building stronger communities and delivering customer
satisfaction through their love of cars. “Visit us on our website www.pellamotors.com
and then come to see us – you’ll love what we deliver.”

Central College students set recordOn late Friday afternoons, when empty classrooms and an even-quieter-than-usual
library signal the start of a weekend, 22 Central students are setting a record. That’swhen labs are crowded with the largest-ever number of chemistry researchers, saysprofessor of chemistry Cathy Haustein.
No student is required to do original research at Central. However, a growing numberare taking advantage of opportunities to collaborate with their professors. “Forprofessors, it keeps us mentally stimulated and involved in our fields,” Haustein says.“For students, it shows them what it’s really like to be a scientist. It’s a hands-on part ofeducation that every student needs.”
Besides research experience for their resume, Haustein says students also encountermystery, setbacks and excitement in the lab. “They can share their joys and frustrations,”Haustein says. “They learn to understand it’s all part of the process.”
This is true for Karlee Rock ’15, a biology major working with visiting assistantprofessor of chemistry James Dunne. “I’ve done countless new reactions trying to findsomething that will be useful,”
Rock says. “We haven’t found the structure we want yet — there’s always someimpurity.”
Rock still enjoys the challenge and opportunity to team up with faculty. “It’s reallycool to get that interaction with a professor,” she says. “He’s not watching over yourshoulder making sure you’re doing it right — you bounce ideas off each other.”
More people in the lab also means more fun, Haustein says, especially when facultyand students are waiting on chemical reactions. “We play music and we dance around,”says Ellie Miller ’15. “The lab is a lot of fun.”
Meanwhile, ongoing research provides an opportunity for Central professors to investin students and explore topics they’re curious about. “We do it because we like it, and it’sjust so good for our students,” Haustein says. “It’s fun to teach chemistry, but this isreally doing. It makes you feel really alive as a department.”
Plus, working in the lab helps students solidify classroom knowledge. “I’ve gained somany new lab skills that will be useful in my future,” Rock says. “Everything you learnin class clicks.”

Entering a New Seasonwith the Same Strong
RootsBig changes occur in 2015 for Work
Systems Rehab & Fitness
Locally owned and operated Work
Systems Rehab & Fitness (WSR&F) knew
2015 would be a year of major changes for
their organization. The biggest upcoming
change includes rebranding itself to a new
name.
“We’re ecstatic to unveil our new name
later this month,” stated CEO Troy Vander
Molen, PT, DPT. “For some time, we’ve
known the name we started with sixteen
years ago no longer fully represented our
company and the greater audience we
serve. Our new look will reflect our vision
for helping people live healthy and happy
lives, as well as the progress we’ve made
since opening.”
Another major change happened at the
start of 2015 when their business moved to
the Molengracht. Their newly renovated
space on the second floor of East
Grachtenhuis features spacious areas for
physical therapy, occupational therapy,
pediatric therapy, athletic training and
medical fitness (Medically Oriented Gym).
Underground parking and an elevator
make this location easy to access.
WSR&F prides itself in providing
patients cutting edge, evidence-based
treatments. In addition, their team provides
clients with one-on-one sessions with the
same provider. These traits improve
continuity and speed up the recovery
process.

While there have been some modifications to Boat’sincluding a new logo, redesigned website, new teammembers and cosmetic changes to the store, the heart of
