21 DAYS OF PRAYER AND FASTING

    P R A Y E R G U I D E

    2 0 2 1 T H E Y E A R O F H O P E

hope /hōp/ noun  Confident expectation; the sure certainty that what God has promised in the Word is true, has occurred, and or will occur.

  • Why do we fast? The goal of fasting is to draw nearer to God. Biblical fasting always has to do with eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose; it hits the reset button of our soul and renews us from the inside out. It also enables us to celebrate the goodness and mercy of God and prepares our hearts for all the good things God desires to bring into our lives. Remember, your personal fast should present a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, your options, and, most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.

Types of Fasts Complete Fast In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option.

    Selective Fast

This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.

    Partial Fast

This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sunup to sundown.

    Soul Fast

This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance. For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.

  • DAY 11 JANUARY 20

    Focus: Marriages

Scripture: Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing[b] her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

    Ephesians 5:21-28 Prayer 1:

“God, I pray for the marriages throughout our church. Through this challenging year we just came through, I pray for reconciliation for marriages that have been broken. I pray for love and respect to be reestablished as the pillar of the home. I pray that you would surround them with other couples that they can lean on and be a support to through challenging times. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Prayer 2: I pray for my [future] spouse and I. I pray that you would bless us and our love for one another. Help us to pursue you first and keep you at the center of our marriage. Teach us how to love one another better, and allow love and respect to be the pillar of our home. I pray that you would surround us with other couples that we can lean on and that we can be a support to through challenging times. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Write a specific prayer for your spouse or a couple you know.

Prayer: “God, today I pray for my church and the Church around the world. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
